I have no intention of looking down on business, yet it simply didn’t suit me. Initially, I
entered the business world for financial gain. Besides being able to support my family, money was
all I got from it. It failed to bring me a sense of fulfillment, which made me immersed in
dissatisfaction and even suffering from torture and pain. My one ambition was to save enough
money to quit and go to Europe to pursue my passion for music.
During that period, I would rise at dawn to practice playing the violin before heading to work.
At noon, instead of having lunch with my business associates, I would frequent cheap cafes, where
I had a quick meal and wrote down some violin exercises. After a long time of such efforts, I finally
managed to save enough money. As my family’s financial situation had improved and they no
longer required my financial support, I resigned from my position. The moment I left, I felt as if I
had been released from prison, and soon I set sail for Europe to pursue my dream.
The four-year study in Europe was beyond amazing. Though I worked more diligently than I
could have ever imagined, every single moment was a source of joy. “Enjoyed” is far too mild a
word to describe my feelings; I was truly on cloud nine. For the first time, I felt that I was truly
living, engaged in what I loved and was meant to do.
If I had remained in business, perhaps I would be a relatively wealthy person today.
Nevertheless, I firmly believe that I would not have achieved a truly successful life. I would have
given up all those intangible rewards, those inner satisfactions that money can never purchase, and
that are often sacrificed when one’s main pursuit is financial success.
Quitting my job went against the advice of nearly all my friends and family. We are so
conditioned to link success with money that the idea of giving up a well-paid job for a dream
seemed almost crazy. If so, all I can say is “Gee, it’s great to be crazy.”
Money is a wonderful thing, but it’s possible to pay too high a price for it.
24. Why did the author go into business
A. Because he hadn’t identified his passion.
B. Because he was immersed in dissatisfaction.
C. Because he had to earn money and help his family.
D. Because he had no intention of looking down on it.
25. Which can best replace the underlined word “intangible” in paragraph 4

A. Invisible. B. Miserable. C. Accessible. D. Possible.
26.Which of the following can best describe the author
A. Honest and tolerant. B. Responsible and fearless.
C. Diligent and talented. D. Innovative and considerate.
27. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The author’s experience of studying music in Europe.
B. The author’s regret of engaging in the financial industry.
C. The importance of family’s support and financial success in life.
D. The struggle between a career in business and the pursuit of one’s passion.

The global success of Chinese apps like TikTok, RedNote (Xiaohongshu), and AI models like
DeepSeek highlights a surprising trend: China is gaining cultural influence among young
Americans, not just in technology but also in creating appealing online experiences.
China’s internet actually is cool. Chinese products and services have an increasing originality,
especially Chinese apps, which stand out for their creativity. TikTok, used by over half of
Americans, offers engaging content that feels more dynamic than U.S. platforms. Its mix of humor,
creativity, and slight rebelliousness (叛逆) attracts teens seeking freedom from traditional norms.
TikTok was briefly shut down earlier this month, and the site faces an uncertain legal future. Many
young users turned to RedNote, a Chinese lifestyle app filled with odd content like fashion tips and
cooking instructions. Though unfamiliar to older generations, its mix of Chinese culture and global
youth trends creates a unique appeal.
As for the AI large-language models, DeepSeek, an AI model developed by a Chinese
company, is a miracle, which combines technical skill with playful personality. Unlike rigid
Western models, it writes creatively --- even reimagining classic literature from an AI perspective.
Its rise to the top of Apple’s app store shows how innovation and affordability can win over users.
The decline of Europe’s cultural appeal gives rise to the trend. In the past, American teens
admired European sophistication (精 明 ), but today’s youth seek fresh alternatives. With its
economic power and global reach, China naturally fills this gap. Additionally, young people often
reject their parents’ preferences, and China’s tech-driven culture feels extremely new.
While U.S.-China relationship dominates headlines, ordinary interactions tell a different story.
On RedNote, American and Chinese users bond over shared interests like cooking or fashion.
DeepSeek’s fair answers on American topics build trust. These connections prove cultural gaps
aren’t unbridgeable.
5
Actually, China’s tech success isn’t just about hardware or data --- it’s about creating products
that resonate (共鸣) emotionally. For American youth seeking novelty, China’s internet culture
offers something refreshingly different. This cultural shift, paired with technological advances,
positions China as a unique party in shaping global trends.
28. Why are young Americans drawn to TikTok
A. They show deeper interest in Chinese culture.
B. They eagerly want to catch up with the fashion.
C. They prefer instructions on fashion and cooking.
D. They want to break away from traditional norms.
29. What can be inferred from the successful case of Deepseek in America
A. Parents’ preferences potentially positively affect the youth.
B. Europe’s steady cultural influence has changed users’ choice.
C. Economic power has helped China stand higher in the world.
D. Few users take price into consideration when considering apps.
30. What does the author convey in the last two paragraphs
A. Chinese apps has bridged cultural gaps.
B. China not America shapes global trends.
C. Chinese apps open a window for U.S. youth.
D. Users of Deepseek share common interests.
31. What’s the best title of the passage
A. How Did China’s Internet Become So Cool
B. China Is Shaping The Cultural Shift Globally.
C. Why Did RedNote Take The Place Of TikTok
D. The Facts Behind The Popularity Of Deepseek.

My late mother was an artist of some renown in the Pacific Northwest. Over her many-decades
career, her paintings evolved from highly representational watercolors into mixed-media abstracts.
Growing up, I could draw a little myself and enjoyed doing so, but I never had her talent. Once, I
asked her how I could improve. I supposed I expected her to say something like “Practice 10,000
hours.” Instead, she told me to look at what I wanted to draw. I stared at a tree, noticing details I’d
ignored before: the rough bark, shifting shadows, and delicate leaves. Drawing each detail carefully,
I created my best work yet. More importantly, I discovered the joy of truly observing the world.
This act of deep attention is called savoring --- a skill that enriches both art and life.
6
Psychologists define it as “fully appreciating positive moments,” like enjoying a sunset or reliving
happy memories. Studies show savoring activates the brain’s reward system, reduces sadness, and
boosts happiness. In experiments, people who focused on daily positive experiences became
happier, especially those with fewer good moments. Savoring also creates vivid, lasting memories
of joy.
Yet humans naturally focus on negatives --- a survival instinct from ancestors who needed to
avoid dangers. Today, this “negativity bias (偏见)” often backfires, making us trapped in problems
and overlook good moments. Scientists warn that constant negativity twists thinking and lowers life
satisfaction.
The solution Practice savoring. Start with positive moments: pause to enjoy a meal or a friend’
s laugh. But challenges can also be savored. Try a “failure journal”: write down a setback (e.g., an
argument), leave space, then return weeks later to note lessons learned (“I improved
communication”). Months later, add positive outcomes (“We grew closer”). This involves savoring
--- and shows how you can use the practice to transform even unwelcome experiences into positive
opportunities for growth and perspective. This reframing helps find meaning in difficulties, much
like finding beauty in an imperfect drawing.
My mother’s advice wasn’t just about art --- it was about living. By observing deeply, we
uncover hidden layers in both the ordinary and the difficult. Savoring turns fleeting moments into
lasting joy and challenges into growth. That’s the true art of life.
32. What does the author focus on by the personal story
A. Observing the world is essential for a painting.
B. Every detail deserves attention when drawing.
C. Deep attention is a source of living a happy life.
D. Savoring is a skill of truly observing the world.
33. What does the author imply about “negativity bias” in modern life
A. It is necessary for survival today. B. It reduces our ability to enjoy life.
C. It helps us avoid dangers effectively. D. It improves people’s life satisfaction.
34. According to the text, what is a “failure journal” used for
A. Reflecting on setbacks to find positive results.
B. Tracking mistakes to avoid errors in the future.
C. Recording positive moments and the emotions.
D. Keeping track of the interpersonal relationships.
35. Why does the author compare “savoring” to “finding beauty in an imperfect drawing”
7
A. To explain that art involves accepting flaws.
B. To criticize people who focus on negativity.
C. To show challenges can be changed into growth.
D. To argue that art is more important than science.

Five Signs of a Good College Study Group
Unlike group work, where students are randomly assigned and usually the results are far from
satisfactory, a college study group can offer a positive experience. Although it requires some effort
to start and maintain, a good study group is worth the time investment. Here are five signs of an
effective one:
Sign 1: Pleasant Members
Having kind and respectful people in a study group is essential to having the group provide a
positive experience for everyone. No one wants to study with rude individuals, no matter how
intelligent they are. 36 A respectful and kind atmosphere is fundamental for a positive
group experience.
Sign 2: Equal Contribution and Cooperation
37 While in a single session, people may have different strengths, over time, everyone
is expected to do their part, assist others, and use their skills whenever possible.
Sign 3: Regular and Punctual (准时的) Attendance
People will unavoidably miss here and there, of course, but overall, all group members need to
show up on time and continuously if the group is going to work. 38 It’s hard to achieve
this when members are frequently absent.
Sign 4: Positive Post-meeting Feelings
If you have an effective and positive study group, you’ll know it after your meetings. 39
If you leave feeling frustrated or that you’ve wasted time, it may be time to find a new group.
Sign 5: Time-saving
Time management can be one of the biggest challenges college students face. A good study
group should save you time in the long run. If the preparation, the meeting, and the follow-up all
lead to time savings, you’ve found a great one and should stay with it. 40
A. This ensures that the group can function smoothly and achieve its goals.
8
B. A study group boosting efficiency at every stage is so great that you must keep it.
C. Sometimes, it’s okay for members to be a little late as long as they are devoted to it.
D. In the long run, every member should play their role and be eager to work together.
E. A friendly environment can make the learning process more enjoyable and efficient.
F. In a good study group, everyone should have a sense of competition to push themselves.
G.You’ll have a better grasp of the content, save time through cooperation, and might even enjoy
the process.

第二节 语篇填空 (共 10 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 15 分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入 1 个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Among the many health preservation concepts, for Chinese people, an idea is 57 we
should “wear more in spring and freeze slightly in autumn”. According to traditional Chinese
medicine theory, in spring, the temperature is 57 (change) and it’s just getting warm. The
yang qi in the human body starts to grow but is still relatively fragile. At this time, “wearing more”
can prevent cold from invading the body’s yang qi, 58 (avoid) diseases such as joint pain.
This is because the human body needs a process to adapt to 59 (warm). Appropriately
keeping warm in spring can 60 (strength) the yang qi, enhance the body’s resistance, and
prevent diseases.
When autumn comes, freezing slightly allows the body to gradually adapt to the cold and
stimulate the internal storage of yang qi. This is in line with 61 traditional Chinese
medicine theory of “harvesting in autumn and storing in winter”. By freezing slightly in autumn,
blood circulation can 62 (promote) and cold tolerance enhanced. 63 these benefits,
the theory is not suitable to everyone. The elderly, children, and those with a weak constitution
should adjust reasonably based on their own conditions 64 (achieve) the goal of scientific
health preservation and keep the body in a good state during the change of seasons, 65 they
are likely to go down with various diseases.

Eight-year-old Peter was a lively and energetic little boy. Every weekend, he would go to his
grandfather’s house, although he didn’t particularly enjoy it. His grandfather was very strict with
Peter. He demanded that Peter develop two good habits: being punctual (准 时 的 ) and staying
organized. To help his grandson develop these habits, the grandfather took certain measures. For
instance, Peter had to be in the dining room sharply at 12:00 noon for lunch, or else he would have
no meal. Peter sometimes felt that his grandfather was too strict, but he dared not voice his
dissatisfaction.
This week was no exception. Peter arrived at his grandfather’s house as usual. His grandfather
was busy cooking in the kitchen, the smell of the food filling the air. Peter, left on his own,
wandered into the living room to play. There, he accidentally knocked over the first-aid kit that was
placed on the table. The contents in the kit spilled all over the floor, small bottles of pills scattered
everywhere.
Peter paid no attention to the chaos he had caused. He glanced at the mess, then remembered
that David, his friend from next door, was home alone. Awakened by the thought of watching
cartoons with David, Peter hurried next door, leaving the spilled contents of the first-aid kit behind.
In the kitchen, the grandfather, who was chopping vegetables, suddenly felt unwell. His heart
11
began to race, and he realized that he was having a heart attack. He struggled to the living room to
get his medicine. However, when he got there, all he saw was the overturned first-aid kit and the
pills scattered on the floor.
The grandfather bent down with difficulty, his heart racing with anxiety as he searched for the
blue bottle that contained his heart medicine. The precious seconds ticked by, and he felt his
strength fading. Time was running out, and Peter didn’t know it. The little boy was completely
unaware of the danger his grandfather was facing, immersed in the fun of the cartoon, laughing
from time to time.
The clock struck 12 but the cartoon was still five minutes away from ending.______________

Version 1
Dear Mr Green,
I'm Li Hua, a high school student who is very interested in our English website. I’m writing
to offer a suggestion on enriching it.
In my opinion, establishing a travel column would be a good choice. Here are some reasons.
First of all, travelling is one of the most popular ways to relax, so introducing a travel column can
attract students’ interest. Secondly, given that students are busy with their studies, it is difficult for
them to have a chance to visit famous scenic spots. Our website can help them make it. Lastly,
appreciating the beautiful rivers and mountains of our motherland can increase our sense of
national pride.
I trust that you will consider my suggestion favorably.
Yours,
Li Hua
Version 2
Dear Mr Green,
I'm Li Hua, a high school student with a keen interest in our English website. I am writing to
propose the addition of a new column.
I believe that adding a new column called “Travel” would be beneficial for the following
reasons. Firstly, as one of the most popular ways to relax, travelling has always been attractive,
never failing to appeal to readers. Additionally, due to our busy studies, we may not have access to
well-known scenic spots. For this reason, “Travel” will prove a perfect addition. Last but not least,
not only will it help us refresh ourselves, but it will also increase our sense of national pride.
I hope you find my suggestion acceptable.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:读后续写
The clock struck 12 but the cartoon was still five minutes away from ending. Although
Peter really wanted to finish watching the cartoon, he tore himself away from the cartoon and
went home. As soon as Peter walked in, he was scared to see his grandfather lying on the
ground. He quickly ran over and asked what was wrong. His grandfather, in a faint voice,
uttered, “Blue bottle... find the blue bottle...” Peter immediately dropped to his knees and
started frantically searching the floor. At that moment, he was filled with regret for not
tidying up the mess he made when he knocked over the first-aid kit.
Finally, after a desperate search, Peter spotted the small blue bottle hidden under the sofa.
He rushed over, reached out to grab the bottle and handed it to his grandfather, tears welling
up his eyes and his voice trembling as he apologized, “Grandpa, I’m sorry!” His grandfather,
after taking the medicine, gently patted Peter on the shoulder and said, “Thank God you’ve
come home in time and find the life-saving medicine for me.” Realizing Grandpa was out of
danger, Peter felt a mixed surge of guilt and comfort overwhelming him, and at this moment,
he realized the importance of being punctual and staying organized.

M: So, what did you think of the trip I thought the section on robots was fascinating. I need to
give a presentation on them, so it was very helpful.
W: Yes, I also got a lot of ideas for my presentation on space travel. That guide made it more
exciting than just looking at the displays, because the displays themselves weren’t organized
very well.

reunion will still be enjoyable!
W: ⑨However, I am a bit nervous about seeing some of our old classmates.

watch a movie or take a walk down by the lake.
W: That sounds nice, but I’m afraid I won’t have any free time.
M: What are your plans for the day
W: Well, first my mom has asked me to help with the house cleaning in the morning. Then at
10:30, I need to walk the dog.
M: And after that
W: It looks like I’m going to be running around all day. I have to meet Jack at 1:30 to assist him
with his business project which is due on Monday morning at the company.
M: Alright, but what about after that
W: It’s unlikely I’ll be free. Later at 5:30, my mom wants me to prepare dinner for the family.
Sometimes I feel like a servant. Who knows how long that will take
M: It seems like you’re going to have a packed day. How about I come over later in the evening
We could play a game or something.
W: Sounds good, but give me a call before you come. My mom might try to come up with
something else for me to do.

M: I’m deeply interested in ecology, and my hero is Rachel Carson. She was the first to make
people think about how our actions as humans are causing permanent damage to Earth’s
ecosystems. She began as a biologist, specializing in writing about the sea, but she gradually
became aware of the dangers of using pesticides like DDT and the way they can harm the whole
of the food chain. In 1962, she wrote her classic book Silent Spring to explain these dangers to the
general public. The title of Silent Spring refers to the fact that one day all the birds might be dead,
leaving us without their beautiful springtime songs. The agricultural and chemical industries
reacted negatively to the book, and said she was unprofessional. However, further research by
other scientists proved that she was right about the dangers of chemicals used to kill insects.
Today, there is a growing movement towards organic food production, but unfortunately the
situation overall is still getting worse rather than improving. We must continue to read Rachel
Carson’s book and reflect on its message.
