“As China is helping them develop hybrid rice, African countries will have a bright future,” said Chinese agronomist Yuan Longping, also known as the “father of hybrid rice” for developing the first such strains (系;品种). The world-renowned agricultural scientist, who received “the Medal of the Republic” for his contribution to the country ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, also urged the youth to pursue lofty (崇高的) ideals instead of simply chasing after money.
