To invent something means to come up with a new idea and make it real. Many inventions have been created to solve real problems. Let’s take a look at some.
Tomatan In 2015, a juice company called Kagome made a robot backpack that can feed a runner a tomato while running. The robot has a head that looks like a tomato, metal arms, and a box that holds six tomatoes. When the runner presses a key, the robot takes one tomato and brings it to the runner’s mouth. Family Bicycle In 1939, a man named Charles Steinlauf built a very strange bicycle. It has many seats. There is one seat at the front, one at the back with pedals (踏板), one at the top with pedals and a wheel, and a lower seat that holds a small sewing machine (缝纫机). The legs of the sewing machine help the bike stand well. This invention makes it possible for all family members to hang out and exercise together.
A Robot That Learns In 2023, a company called Figure built an AI robot. The robot can speak, follow orders, and learn new things. It is 1.7 meters tall, weighs 60kg. It can work for about 5 hours at one time. The company hopes that these robots will help people work better. Greenhouse Helmet (头盔) A clear helmet was made in 1985. Inside the helmet are places where you can put plants. The plants give fresh air to the person who wears the helmet. The helmet also has a microphone so the wearer can talk with others.
These inventions show how people think out of the box to find solutions. Whether the inventors succeed or not, they show their bravery and imagination.

Lenses (镜片) are useful tools that help us see things more clearly. They are widely used in our daily lives. They can help us read small words in books and take clear photos. They are also used to help people who have trouble seeing things clearly, like those who can’t see far away or those who can’t see things up close. There are many kinds of lenses, but today we will talk about convex and concave lenses.
Imagine you’re using a magnifying glass (放大镜) to read small words in a book. What happens when you move the glass closer to the words The letters get bigger, right That’s the power of a convex lens. Convex lenses are thicker in the middle and thinner at the sides. When light passes through a convex lens, it is brought together at a single point called the focus. This is why magnifying glasses, camera lenses, and even the lenses for some old people use convex lenses to see more clearly.
Different from convex lenses, concave lenses are thinner in the middle and thicker at the sides. When light passes through concave lenses, it spreads out. You can find concave lenses in your daily life. For example, if you are nearsighted (近视的), your glasses probably have concave lenses. You are nearsighted because the light entering your eyes does not focus exactly on the retina (视网膜). When you wear glasses with concave lenses, the light spreads out first and then enters the eyes, allowing it to focus correctly on the retina. In this way, you can see things clearly.
