I was for a meeting one night. I ran to my bike parked in Waterloo Square, only to find my keys missing. I wanted to rent a bike, as the meeting was in a place inconvenient to get to by bus. There’s a bike shop just nearby. Unfortunately, when I got there, it had closed.
Frustrated, I weighed my options: I could cancel the meeting, call a taxi, or borrow a bike from a stranger. The last one seemed the most enjoyable. I tried many places to find the kind stranger. No luck until I found a liquor store. I walked in and found a boy and a girl interacting with a customer. After the customer paid, I came up saying I needed help. Knowing I had lost my bicycle keys, the girl began to search a box. “No, I actually wanted to borrow your bike if you’re working late today. ” She said she hadn’t come by bike. I turned to the boy, “I know it’s a strange request, but I promise to be back before your shift.” After a brief pause, the boy said, “Yes I’d like to help. I’m staying until 9 pm.” His name was Chevy. He gave the keys to me, then pointed to his bike. I unlocked it, got on and cycled it to the meeting.
Around 8: 30 pm, I cycled back to Waterloo Square and stopped at a supermarket to buy presents. A homeless man sat in the front. Eager to make someone else happy like Chevy, I asked him what he wanted. “I would like something to drink.” I got him a glass of juice. He was really rejoiced. I bought some flowers for Chevy. I cycled back to the store before 9 pm. Chevy was obviously happy when seeing me. I offered flowers and thanks to him. He said, “People say it’s hard to trust others nowadays, but I finally gave you the keys, because I believed you’d come back. I’m glad I could help.”
24. Why didn’t the author take a bus for the meeting
A. The author liked traveling by bike. B. It wasn’t easy to get there by bus.
C. The bus fare was too expensive. D. The buses were too old to take.
25. How was Chevy’s reaction when the author asked him for help
A. Excited. B. Proud. C. Surprised. D. Hesitant.
26. Why did the author decide to help the homeless man
A. The author thought it necessary to help others. B. The author wanted to make friends with him.
C. The author knew he must be thirsty. D. The author was greatly encouraged by Chevy.
27. What does the underlined word “rejoiced” in the last paragraph mean
A. Disappointed. B. Delighted. C. Doubtful. D. Curious.

The world’s only self-driving taxi company has been forced to fix a fleet of cars after residents complained about their constant honking (鸣笛). The autonomous (自动的) car company arrived in a car park in San Francisco, a few weeks ago, where they waited between jobs. However, the cars were equipped with an update that made them honk whenever another car was close to them.
Christopher Cherry who lives next to the car park, said he was “really excited” to have the company in the neighbourhood when their cars moved in, thinking it would bring more security and quiet to the area. Instead, the taxis honked at each other through the night as they parked or set off on a journey, making it hard to sleep. “The cars are robotic and they’re collectively (共同地) honking at each other and there’s no one in the cars when it’s happening, and that’s absurd.”
One resident got so angry that she started to post the car park online, gathering tens of thousands of views on some of her videos. “Help,” says Sophia Tung at the end of one of her videos where the cars can be heard honking late at night, which caused great reaction on the social media.
The taxi company said the honking problem is now fixed. “It has been working great in the city, but we didn’t quite predict that it would happen so often in our own parking lots. We’ve updated the software, so our electric vehicles should keep the noise down for our neighbors moving forward,” the company’s manager said. As the cars left their car park at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the honking did indeed appear to be solved. Ms Tung confirmed to her hundreds of live viewers in the chat: “They didn’t honk.”
28. Why was Cherry enthusiastic about the company’s autonomous cars at first
A. He needed to travel by taxi. B. They were smart and safe enough.
C. There were not too many taxis. D. He expected them to be noise-free.
29. What got great attention in Tung’s videos
A. Tung’s complaints and curiosity. B. The honking problem late at night.
C. The huge fleet of automatic cars. D. The all-day honking problem.
30. What can we know about the taxi company
A. It found similar problems in the city. B. It removed the cars from the parking lot.
C. It responded to residents’ complaints. D. It made an apology to the neighbors.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Autonomous Cars Annoy Residents with Honking
B. A Lot of People Are Against the Autonomous Cars
C. The Autonomous Cars Are Developing Quickly
D. The Autonomous Cars Bring in Some New Problems
D
Have you ever suffered a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) Anxiety is a natural response to stress or danger and is often associated with fear and worry. If you’re feeling anxious, you may experience physical symptoms (症状), such as sweating, shaking, sickness, or muscle tenseness. These symptoms may affect blood pressure, just as high blood pressure may in some circumstances cause feelings of anxiety.
When we’re faced with a stressful situation — a public speech, an unexpected call or even a high-pressure work environment, this may cause our heart rate to speed up, our body to sweat, and our blood pressure to rise.
“Our body is increasing our heart rate to be able to manage a potentially dangerous situation, and as a natural consequence, our blood pressure increases during this time, ” says Wheaton, an assistant professor of psychology at Barnard College. “Typically, our blood pressure returns to the normal range as the anxiety relieves. The relationship between anxiety and high blood pressure is complex. Although anxiety can lead to short-term increases in blood pressure, it generally doesn’t increase the risk for long-term high blood pressure. ”
Unfortunately, some people use unhealthy methods to deal with their stress or anxiety and engage in the following behaviors, such as smoking, poor sleep habits, avoiding exercise, poor diet or drinking alcohol. These can have a negative impact on overall health.
If you want to solve your anxiety and blood pressure problems, some experts offer a treatment method that involves biofeedback (生物反馈). Through biofeedback therapy (BFT), you can observe and learn to be aware of the potential physical changes that may occur due to anxiety and high blood pressure. “The method is that with practice, you could learn to control your bodily response, easing tension and slowing your heart rate down to enter a more relaxed state, ” Wheaton says.
32. Why is GAD mentioned in paragraph 1
A. To introduce a topic. B. To prove a theory.
C. To present an opinion. D. To show the current situation.
33. What is a common physiological response to a stressful situation
A. Decreased heart rate. B. Enhanced memory.
C. Improved concentration. D. Increased blood pressure.
34. What can we know about anxiety and high blood pressure from Wheaton
A. High blood pressure is a direct cause of GAD.
B. BFT will increase anxiety and blood pressure.
C. Anxiety usually doesn’t cause long-term high blood pressure.
D. The relation between anxiety and high blood pressure is simple.
35. What is most likely to be introduced next in the text
A. The specific steps of BFT. B. The value of BFT.
C. The amazing results of BFT. D. The spread of BFT.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
After a long battle with a serious illness, Sam finally went back to school, hoping to get back to his old self. But he quickly found it hard to keep up with his lessons. His biggest problem was reading class. Before, he was good at reading, but now even short paragraphs made him tired. He couldn’t focus, and the school that once felt like a safe place now made him feel stressed. The more pressure to keep up with his classmates grew, and the poor grades shook his confidence. He tried his best, but the gap between what he could do and what he used to made him feel sad and worried.
His reading teacher, Mr Green, noticed his struggles and stepped in. After school, Mr Green asked Sam to come to his office and said softly, “Sam, I know it’s tough, but everyone faces hard times. What matters is how you deal with them.” Then he added, “What’s your favorite thing to imagine ” Sam hesitated, then mumbled, “Space... I like thinking about rockets and planets.” Mr Green smiled. “Reading is like a spaceship, Sam. It can take you anywhere — but you need to learn the controls first.”
Curious but unsure, Sam watched as Mr Green turned paragraphs into star charts. He used bright markers to circle tricky words, explaining them like “alien codes” to decode (解码). Sentences became “missions” to complete, and pages felt like “galaxies” to explore. For the first time, reading didn’t feel like a battle — it felt like an adventure.
But progress was slow. A tough reading test left him tearful. “I’ll never get this right,” he said. Mr Green crouched (蹲下) down beside him. “Every mistake is just a step closer to the stars.” Encouraged, Sam kept practicing. He started seeing words as puzzle pieces, connecting them to form stories. After each small improvement, Mr Green gave him a sticker (贴纸) shaped like a rocket. “This is your prize. These small improvements will lead to great success. Believe in yourself,” he said.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The turning point came during a reading class when Sam was handed a paper to finish.

A Meaningful Book Sharing Activity
Last week, our school held a book sharing activity. Students gathered in the library to talk about their favorite books. Some shared stories, and the others discussed characters. I chose to talk about Harry Potter, a book that has been with me through tough times. It was exciting to hear different opinions and see how books can connect us.
I learned that reading is more than just words on a page. It’s about sharing ideas and feelings. This event made me love books even more and I can’t wait for the next one!
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】The turning point came during a reading class when Sam was handed a paper to finish. At first, the words on the paper for Sam seemed to blur together, and his heart was filled with frustration. Mr Green’s gentle hand on his shoulder calmed him, and he tried again. This time, he managed a full paragraph. Relief and pride surged through him — it felt like the first glimpse of light after months of darkness. Encouraged by this small victory, Sam began to push harder. Slowly but surely, he began to feel stronger, not just in his reading but in his belief that he could overcome this challenge.
Months later, Sam stood in front of his class to deliver a presentation on overcoming challenges. His hands trembled slightly, but his voice was steady. “Almost a few months ago, I couldn’t manage to read without struggling.” The room grew silent as Sam shared his story, recalling the moments of despair, and the strong support of Mr Green, who believed in him when he couldn’t believe in himself. As he finished, the room erupted in applause, loud and heartfelt. In that moment, Sam realized his journey wasn’t just about healing himself — it was about giving others the courage to face their own struggles with hope and determination.
