第二节:
With tools scattered across the workbench, Winston stared at the blueprints of his homemade robot, determined
to create a machine that could heal broken relationships. His design incorporated emotional recognition algorithms,
programmed to guide users toward vulnerability rather than transactional apologies. Late nights blurred into weeks as
he soldered circuits, Elizabeth bringing coffee while Rachel drew "helper robot" sketches to tape above his
workstation. During testing, Winston programmed it to mediate Rachel’s sandbox quarrel with her friend—the bot’
s gentle voice asking, "What made your heart feel ouchy " startled both children into tearful reconciliation. Yet doubts
lingered: Could cold machinery truly navigate the messy terrain of human hearts He added a "silent listening" mode,
remembering how Karl’s video had held space for his rage before offering resolution.
However, when he activated the robot for the first time, its screen flickered unexpectedly, displaying a familiar
face from his past. Cherisse’s aged yet unmistakable features materialized, eyes glistening with unshed tears. The
machine had autonomously tracked her down, cross-referencing Winston’ s apology with her digital footprints.
"Message pending delivery," it intoned. Winston’s hands trembled—this wasn’t part of his design. Before he could
abort, Cherisse’s live response played: "I waited years to hear that." Her voice softened. "But seeing you build this…
maybe some fractures make room for better things." The robot’s camera captured Winston’s stunned reflection
beside Rachel’s crayon drawings, weaving past and present into a single frame of healing.

Inspired by an event held by the Dallas-based Daddy Stroller (婴儿车) Social Club (DSSC) , a group
for fathers, Brandon Shaw wrote an 83-page typed letter to his father. From the Blacklit bookstore, Kalvin
Bridgewater led 15 dads, including his own father, who was seated next to Shaw, in an emotional event
where the men dug into what they hated, loved, misunderstood and appreciated about their fathers as they
grew up.
Founded by Bridgewater in 2021, DSSC initially met with about 30 dads per event but skyrocketed in
popularity after two online videos became hits in April 2024. It now attracts over 150 dads at events, where
fathers bond over shared experiences and provide emotional backing for one another.
DSSC’s appeal is broad, attracting dads from various professions, including doctors, engineers, and
electricians. The group emphasizes emotional support, with members regularly checking in on one another.
As Shaw shared, the group provides a space where men can be open, asking, “How are you feeling ” Shaw,
who joined the group when he first became a father, said it has made him more patient and understanding.
Bridgewater, who became a certified doula (产妇陪护师) to better support his wife through pregnancy
(孕期), also ensures DSSC allows partners some time for themselves. At a May event, scheduled just before
Mother’s Day, mothers had the day off while fathers spent time bonding with their children.
Brandon Shaw described the experience as transformative, saying it helped him connect with his own
weaknesses, something he had previously kept hidden. He sent the letter he wrote to his father for Father’s
Day. It arrives soon. He said he doesn’t expect a response and just hopes his father reads it. As Bridgewater
puts it, fatherhood is just about “being honest and sharing”.
24.What can be inferred about DSSC from the first two paragraphs
A.It creates a group of father influencers. B.It repairs broken father-son relationships.
C.It promotes fathers’ emotional well-being. D.It highlights fathers’ vital role in childcare.
25.What makes DSSC appealing
A.Parenting instructions. B.Good childcare service.
C.Supportive atmosphere. D.Diverse member backgrounds.
26.Why is the May event mentioned in paragraph 4
A.To illustrate another aim of DSSC. B.To justify the founder’s personal experience.
C.To stress the importance of DSSC. D.To show an ideal husband-wife relationship.
27.What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A.The severity of parental issues. B.DSSC’s influence on its members.
C.The necessity to identify weaknesses. D.Bridgewater’s devotion to fatherhood.

The sun likes to remind us that Earth is merely one part of a joint system. Despite our connection with
the sun, there are still numerous scientific mysteries to uncover about this critical star, particularly its
magnetic field (磁场). Now, for the first time, scientists have taken nearly daily measurements of the sun’s
coronal (日冕的) magnetic field and this observation offers a more dynamic view of this solar region.
The solar magnetic field is the primary driver of solar storms and flares. As society grows increasingly
英语试题 第 4页 共 10 页
reliant on technology, this space weather generates threats to power networks, communication systems, and
in-space technologies like GPS and satellites. “Global mapping of the coronal magnetic field has been a big
missing part in the study of the sun,” said Zihao Yang, a postdoctoral fellow from Peking University in China.
“This research is helping us fill a crucial gap in our understanding of coronal magnetic fields, which are the
source of the energy for storms that can impact Earth.”
Scientists have been able to routinely measure the magnetic field on the sun’s surface. Large
telescopes like the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST), which is the world’s largest solar telescope,
can measure the three-dimensional coronal magnetic fields in depth. It recently demonstrated its ability to
make detailed observations of the coronal magnetic field. However, DKIST can’t map the sun all at once.
To try to get more overall mapping, the team turned to the Upgraded Coronal Multi-channel
Polarimeter (UCoMP). UCoMP can block out parts of the sun. It uses a dise called a coronagraph to enable
scientists to measure the sun’s atmosphere. UCoMP has a much smaller aperture (光图) compared to DKIST,
but it can take a wider view, which makes it possible for scientists to study the entire sun on most days.
“We are entering a new age of solar physics research when we can routinely measure the coronal
magnetic field,” said Yang. Using DKIST’s and UCoMP’s measurements together offers a more all-sided
view of the coronal magnetic field.
28.What is the significance of the new observation of the sun’s coronal magnetic field
A.It reveals the source of the sun’s energy.
B.It helps us fully understand the solar system.
C.It enables us to predict solar storms accurately.
D.It allows further insight into a certain solar region.
29.What does Zihao Yang think of the research
A.It’s well-received. B.It’s risk-free.
C.It’s pioneering. D.It’s misleading.
30.What is the main advantage of UCoMP compared to DKIST
A.It provides a wider view of the sun.
B.It has a larger aperture for higher-quality images.
C.It can measure the sun’s magnetic field in greater depth.
D.It can block out the sun’s light for better measurements.
31.What is the main idea of the text
A.The importance of solar physics research.
B.The comparison between DKIST and UCoMP.
C.The sun’s magnetic field and its impact on Earth.
D.The new progress in measuring the sun’s coronal magnetic field.

In primary school, I evolved from the class half-wit to the smart-alec, attracting scorn for being the
teacher’s pet. Mr Slavin, fair but partial to answers, favored me over boys like Thommo, who struggled to
remember his name. Thommo faced regular canings—four strokes from Mr Slavin or six from the Deputy
Head. His screams echoed as he fled each stroke. One day, police found his school case stuffed with stolen
trinkets, and he vanished forever.
英语试题 第 5页 共 10 页
Despite Thommo’s fate, I envied his rebellious aura. As the despised “pet,” I craved respect. My desk at
the back, reserved for top students, isolated me. To rebel visibly, I carved railway tracks into the desk,
pushing pencil fragments with “chuffing” noises. Inspired by my firebug tendencies, I rubbed a ruler against
the wood until smoke—then flames—emerged. Mr Slavin’s gaze turned, and I earned four stinging strokes.
The pain paled against the glory of newfound notoriety.
This triumph spurred darker urges. Bullied by older boys, I mimicked their cruelty on younger ones but
recoiled instinctively. My aversion to inflicting pain clashed with a personality riddled with flaws. At home,
I staged futile escapes—packed with peanut butter sandwiches—only to linger near forbidden roads.
Symbolic rebellion surfaced in tunneling through chicken coops, emerging crowned in bird droppings.
My mother, oblivious to my school struggles, boasted of my intellect to neighbors like Nola Huthnance,
whose endless chatter rivaled her own. Even as I lapped up her praise, I sensed its toxicity. Unlike Gogol’s
mother, who credited her son with inventing the steam engine, mine saw genius in mundane report cards.
Such adoration bred isolation, compelling me to forge a contrary identity.
32. What can be inferred about the author's attitude toward his mother's praise
A. He felt pressured to develop a rebellious identity.
B. He actively embraced her admiration as motivation. C. He remained indifferent to her opinions.
D. He resented her comparisons with other families. 33. The underlined word “chuffing” most likely refers to:
A. Crying in pain. B. Whispering secrets.
C. Making train-like noises. D. Laughing mockingly.
34. How did Mr. Slavin treat the author compared to Thommo
A. Strict but fair. B. Partial but encouraging.
C. Hostile and dismissive. D. Indifferent and detached.
35. Why was Thommo taken away by the police
A. He set fire to the classroom. B. He escaped during caning.
C. He bullied younger students. D. He stole items from stores.

Mental resilience (韧性) has become a vital skill in today’s fast-paced world. 36 Research
indicates that individuals with high resilience levels are 35 % more likely to maintain mental health during
long-term stress. Let’s explore scientific ally proven methods to strengthen this ability.
The Main Idea Explained
Resilience is not about reducing stress but managing it effectively. Emerging neurobiological evidence
sheds light on this positively adaptive process. 37 Neuroscientists (神经学家) compare it to muscle
training: facing proper challenged regularly improved mental ability to adjust. For instance, A 2023 Harvard
study showed that proper stress increased brain thickness in areas related to making decisions.
Physical Activity as a Foundation
Exercise is universally recognized as a key resilience-building tool. During aerobic workouts, the body
producers BDNF (脑源性神经营养因子), a protein important for brain development. 38 Meanwhile, this
chemical process not only improved mood but also strengthens mental abilities. To maximize benefits,
experts suggest combining 30 minutes of daily exercise with relaxation methods such as deep breathing.
The Power of Social Bonds
英语试题 第 6页 共 10 页
Human beings succeed through meaningful connections. Strong social networks act as psychological
safety nets during c rises. 39 A Stanford University study over many years found that people with strong
social support recovered 50 % faster from emotional difficulties than those who were isolated. Surprisingly,
online communication through video calls was 80 % as effective as face-to-face meetings in recent tests.
Methods to Change Negative Thoughts
How we view difficulties shapes our mental resilience. Psychologists suggest changing extreme
negative ideas like “I can’t handle this” into positive views such as “This is hard but possible.” 2022
study found that daily gratitude practice lowers stress hormones by 25 % in three weeks. 40
A.Therefore, building strong connections should be a key goal.
B.Creative activities like painting unexpectedly better stress tolerance.
C.Workplace culture significantly impacts employees’ stress management.
D.This natural process helps maintain stable emotions and enhanced clear thinking.
E.Moreover, actively noticing small daily successes helps develop positive thinking.
F.This psychological training strengthens the brain’s ability to handle future challengers.
G.It refers to the ability to recover from difficulties while keeping basic operations running.

The daughters, but not the sons, of women who give birth at age 30 or older are more likely to
experience symptoms of depression as young adults, according to research published by the American
Psychological Association.
Tearne, a doctoral student at the University of Western Australia and lead author of the study, and her
colleagues analyzed data from the Western Australian Pregnancy Cohort Study. Pregnant (怀孕的) women
were selected into this study, and provided psychological 41 . Their offspring (子女) then underwent
psychological 42 at various ages over the next 23 years.
In this study, the researchers 43 self-reported levels of various symptoms of depression, anxiety and
stress from 1,200 of the offspring at age 20 and compared them with the age of the mother and father at the
time the children were born. Daughters whose mothers were over age 30 at the time of 44 had
significantly higher levels of stress, depression and anxiety compared with daughters whose mothers were
under age 30. However, the fathers' age at that particular time had no effect, and there was no effect found
for 45 .
While the exact cause of this relationship is not clear, Tearne said she suspects it is not necessarily
46 .
“One hypothesis (假设) is that 47 may occur in the mother-daughter relationship because of a large
age difference between the two,” said Tearne. “It may be that a 30 or more year age difference between
mother and daughter leads to a significant difference in the 48 systems. That may cause 49 in the
relationship, leading to stress, worry and sadness in the child, particularly during the transition to young
adulthood.”
Another possible 50 may be that the women who gave birth over age 30 would be in their 50s at

the time their children were assessed. Therefore, they are more likely to be experiencing health problems
associated with 51 . This could also lead to higher levels of 52 in the children, Tearne said. Other
studies have suggested that daughters are more affected by their mother’s health problems than sons. This
could explain why the 53 only appears in daughters, she said.
“It is important to remember, too, that the study examined symptoms of distress, rather than 54
diagnosis,” said Monique Robinson, PhD, of the University of Western Australia, another author of the study.
“It could be that the offspring of older mothers are at risk for a few more symptoms of depression, anxiety
and stress, but that does not necessarily mean they will experience a(n) 55 mental disorder.”

Math and literature are probably two of the subjects that bring students headaches. However, scientists
wonder 56 the beauty of math can be found in literary works. Once Upon a Prime: The Wondrous
Connections between Mathematics and Literature, a book 57 (publish) recently by UK mathematician
Sarah Hart, presents some interesting thoughts about “three”. She argues that the beauty of this number is
indeed evident in many works of western literature and languages in general.
“Three” is the minimum number 58 which a two-dimensional shape can be defined. For example,
three sticks can create a triangle, a stable structure. Many common phrases are in three words, such as “ready,
set, go”. In stories, there are usually three main characters, such as Harry, Ron and Hermione in the Harry

第二节 (满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Winston Sinclair’s quiet evening was interrupted by a squat grey robot at his door. The machine
delivered an apology video from Karl Anderson, a former colleague who sabotaged Winston’ s job
application at Future Industries nine years prior. Karl confessed to spreading rumors that Winston was
“impossible to work with,” driven by fear of competition.
Initially furious—“THAT SCOUNDREL!”—Winston recalled his dashed career hopes. Yet his wife
Elizabeth reminded him: missing that job led him to IndustriCorp, where they met, married, and had their
daughter Rachel. “Things worked out just fine,” she said. Winston accepted Karl’s apology, realizing
life’s unexpected blessings.
The robot then demanded Winston record his own apology, calibrated to match Karl’s in “value.”
His trivial confessions—scratching a hover-bike, childhood theft—were rejected as “insufficient.” Finally,
Winston recalled breaking Cherisse’s heart at 22. The robot approved: “Value is sufficient.”
As Winston apologized for fleeing love out of fear, he felt “lighter,” mirroring Karl’s catharsis. The
robot departed to deliver both messages. Watching it vanish into the night, Winston—inspired—declared: “I’
m going to build a robot.”

This encounter bridged past regrets and present gratitude. Winston’ s journey from resentment to
forgiveness, and his resolve to create his own reconciling machine, underscored the transformative power of
accountability and serendipity.
