Parents can be very important teachers in our lives. However, they are not always the best teachers. Parents may be too close to their children emotionally (感情上). Sometimes they can only see their children through the eyes of a protector. For example, a teacher might see a trip to a big city as a valuable experience. However, it might seem too dangerous for a parent.
Another problem is that parents may expect their children’s interests to be similar to their own. If they love science, they may try to force their child to love science, too. But what if their child’s true love is art or writing, or car repair
Parents usually want to pass on their values to their children. But should children always believe what their parents do When children are young, they believe that their parents are always right. But when they get older, they will have different ways of thinking.

We all experience stress at times, but it’s important to manage it properly and reduce its influence. Here are some helpful tips for dealing with stress.
Sometimes we feel stressed without understanding the reason. So whenever you’re stressed, you should stop and think. What is really happening How can you improve the situation Try keeping a diary about your problems and the possible causes.
Do you always wait until Sunday evening to do homework This bad habit can cause “last-minute” stress, as well as poor grades. To avoid that, time management is greatly needed. Plan your studies and other activities with a calendar. You can also divide big projects into smaller tasks.
Besides, healthy habits are very important for reducing stress. Be sure to eat healthy meals and get at least eight hours of sleep. Avoid checking your mobile phone or using the computer before bedtime.
When you’re feeling stressed, it’s helpful to speak to someone who understands your situation, such as your friends and families. Don’t keep your worries to yourself.

The opera of Dream of the Red Chamber (红楼梦) , the first opera adapted (改编) from an 18th century Chinese novel under the same name, returned to San Francisco in mid-June this year, six years after its world debut (首演) . The opera, developed for Western audiences (观众), has received international praise since its first performance.
Zhang Meigui, a 28-year-old opera singer, played the role of Daiyu in the opera. To show the audience a fresh version (版本) , she had been preparing for half a year. “I’ve watched the video of the first production many times. “The singer needs to keep the high notes (高音) with a soft sound, which requires more breath support and air control.” said Zhang, “Some parts of the music are more powerful and require very expressive sound.”
Bright Sheng, the opera’s composer, explained in an interview why Daiyu sang in a loud voice. “Music carries feelings that words cannot explain or say. To me, it has to be loud crying, beating her chest as she looks up at the sky to ask these questions.” For the new production, Sheng said he made some changes. He said, “A great opera is not only a big musical theater in action, but also a perfect mixture of music and drama.”

Payne joined in the party for school leavers and received her valuable diploma (学位证书) with the help of her grandson as she had trouble walking on her own. When other people at the same age took the rest at home, she chose another way. “I will not stop improving myself.” Payne said. “It makes me feel I’m full of energy.” She told us that she had already got a new job in Houston to work for a magazine after she got the diploma. Many people believe sex (性别) influences interests and jobs. For example, boys do math better than girls, while girls are better at learning languages. We usually think this is because of the difference in how boys’and girls’ brains work. But is it really true
According to past studies, some parts of our brains can be different in size. Scientists used to think these differences might influence how well men and women think and do things. They found this by scanning (扫描) people’s brains. However, in most of the studies, researchers only scanned a few people. In fact, to make such research believable, you would have to scan the brains of 1,000 people at least.
In 2021, the UK Biobank scanned the brains of 40,000 people in the UK, providing new ideas.“It showed differences between men and women in the size of certain brain parts. However, these differences were very small. We could not get a real result from them.”Camillie Williams from the University of Texas, told New Scientist.
Also, our brains might change in size according to our life experiences. For example, if part of a man’s brain which is for doing math, is larger than that of a woman. It is possibly because he takes jobs that often use math skills. So brain differences between men and women could be a result of different roles in life and society. So, what can we do to make our brains work better

B.Some parts of our brains ean be totally different in their sizes.
C.The UK Biobank has done the best study and provided new ideas.
D.Different brain sizes of people aren’t big enough to make a difference.
69.What will the writer talk about next

C.Influences of the different life experiences.
D.Future development of the UK Biobank research.
Do you see there are many electric cars running on the road There might be more in the future. Because it is a way to help slow the climate change. In the United States, it is said that by 2030, half of all new cars sold should be electric ones. Now this country is one of the biggest makers of greenhouse gases. More than a quarter of those in the country come from cars.
But over half of Americans don’t want that. They say the electric cars are expensive and it’s not easy to charge them when the cars run out of power as charging stations are not enough.
So should all cars be electric Our newspaper held a discussion too. 55% readers choose electric cars as the oil is not reusable. Electric cars can use renewable energy including solar and wind power which can help reduce the air pollution. But 45% readers don’t like electric cars. It’s hard to control the car when the weather is poor. The batteries (电池) are made of things found at the bottom of the sea. That’s harmful to sea animals and the environment too.
Environment problems are becoming more and more serious. Maybe they won’t be solved simply by producing more electric cars. Every one of us has to do more to make our home better.

On January 28, 2025, a special performance called YangBOT amazed audiences at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Directed by famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese yangko dance with modern robot technology.
In the performance, robots dressed in colorful costumes danced yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They moved handkerchiefs (手帕) quickly and formed creative group patterns (图案). These robots were developed by Unitree, a Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree’ s first success—in 2021, their robot cows named “Ben Ben” danced for singer Andy Lau.

Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years.
To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li.
Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”. It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule (treat others as you wish to be treated).
While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors (祖先). While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us.
Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society: Without it, the whole world would fall into a mess.

Have you ever met large changes in life and work How do you feel In fact, we all have to go through the grief cycle (悲伤循环), which has the following periods:
The first period: “It can’t be happening.”
Anger: “Why me It’s not fair.”
Depression: “I’m so sad. Why do I have to do all of these ”
Acceptance: “It’s going to be OK.”
I’m honestly not sure how scientific this model is, but I certainly believe that you will work better after going through these major (主要的) changes.
Find out what your anger does for you—good or bad Think back to the situation where you have been angry at work and ask yourself how it influences you, including: your relationship with co-workers, the quality (质量) of your work and health, how you feel outside of work, your relationship with friends and family.
Find out what makes you angrier and less angry. Which thoughts, situations, people or conversations make you less angry I’m sure you are not angry all the time. What makes you calm and stops you from feeling angry Find out and then start doing less of what makes you angry and more of the things that cool you down.
Focus on gratitude (感恩). What are you grateful for As I mentioned above, anger is part of the grief cycle which is connected with what you lose. Gratitude is the opposite of loss because it comes from the good things you have in your life. Every evening, sit down with a piece of paper and make two gratitude lists: three things I was grateful for at work today; three things I was thankful for in life today.
Change your focus from “What was done to me” to “What I can do”. This is the basic piece of all self-help advice. Life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% about how you deal with it. You must take responsibility for your own situation, rather than be a victim (牺牲品) of it. That kind of advice can get pretty boring. But that doesn’t make it less true.
43.Why does the writer begin the text by asking questions
A.To catch the readers’ interest. B.To express disagreement.

A.Harmful. B.Strange. C.Valuable. D.Interesting.

It was the middle of winter about 30 years ago. I was a young father with three little children depending on me. I worked in a sawmill (锯木厂).
As I got ready to go to work, I wrapped bandages (绷带) around my fingers and put more in my pockets. Cutting and stacking wood for eight hours a day had caused my fingers to split (裂开) and blood can be seen at their tips in the cold, dry winter air.
That day at work was harder than usual. We were short-handed on workers. So we had to do more work than usual. Besides, the machines kept breaking down, so we had to rush to repair them again and again. On top of that, all the heaters in the building had stopped working and we could see our breath as we spent hours working there!
When the workday finally ended, I walked wearily towards the washroom, took off my work gloves, and checked my aching fingers. The splits were worse than ever and blood came through the bandages again. I felt so tired. I wondered how long I could keep doing this, if things would never get any better, and why life was so hard.
After driving home, I tried to put a smile on my face as I opened the front door but instead, one appeared surprisingly, smiling at me and yelling “Daddy!” and put her little arms around my neck. I lifted my daughter up and my heart was filled with love. My tired body didn’t feel so tired anymore. My aches and pains disappeared into her hug. And the joy in my heart chased the sadness away. As a mother, I often think of how my words and actions might influence my children. Something little might just become a special memory for them.
Last year, when my son turned four, we had a special day. In the morning, we drove to the train station and bought two tickets. We took two window seats and watched houses, bikes and cars pass by. After getting off the train, we walked to a restaurant and had a good meal. The cabbages were fresh and the bread was soft, but the potatoes were our favorite.
Then, we walked around the city center. We visited a toy shop and ended up buying a long blue train. After all, it was the little man’s birthday. We also enjoyed some hot chocolate at a coffee shop. Finally, we made our way back to the train station and returned home. My son must have enjoyed himself that day. He looked at me with thirsty eyes and asked, “Mama, when can we have a special day again ”
Sometimes, we go to a park. Sometimes, we try out a new restaurant. We don’t do this very often, or it won’t end up being special. But we don’t do it too seldom, neither, or we might forget how much we both love having them — those special days.

A few weeks ago, I was invited for the interview at Cambridge University in person. I have always hoped for it ever since I was twelve years old. I felt very excited that I could meet and speak to some of the leading teachers in the field, but as the interview drew closer, I was unsurprisingly getting more and more nervous. The day before my interview, I stayed in Cambridge for a night as it was an early morning interview. It was a relaxing experience to live and study at the university.
The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on the stage. Their strong joints (like knees with 360N·m power) helped them balance perfectly during fast steps. Zhang Yimou explained, “This dance isn’t just fun—it shows how technology can bring new life to traditions.”
Thanks to these innovations, the robots won the hearts of millions. On social media, topics like “RobotYangko” spread quickly. Young viewers called it “cool”, while older audiences loved its humor. It’s amazing that in ancient times, guzheng was used to hit the enemies. Later, it was used as a kind of instrument. At first, it had 12 strings (弦), and then a 13-string guzheng was developed. Now it usually has 21 strings.
