On a spring day, Guinness World Records held a ceremony in Bournemouth to award local lifeguard Chris Lewis the title. Lewis,74, began working at the Dorset resort when he was 16. “It’s the best job in the world,” he said. “You’re working and helping people. What could be better ”
His colleagues were just half his age. But he is still fighting fit. Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards must complete a 400m pool swim in under 7.5 minutes. They have to do a 25m pool swim underwater and a 25-metre surface swim consecutively in under 50 seconds and run 200m along the beach in under 40 seconds. The tests are still reasonably comfortable for Lewis. All winter he has been doing 3,000 meters of sea swimming each month.
Lewis’s adventure began in 1965 when a police officer spotted that he was a keen swimmer and suggested he get his lifesaving badges. The following year he began volunteering as a lifeguard at the age of 16. Then he became part of the RNLI lifeguards in 2001 and began providing beach patrols for local authorities.
Now the RNLI patrols more than 240 beaches across the UK. Lewis laughed when asked if he had seen many changes. “The RNLI’s equipment in 2024 includes jet skis, rescue boats and quad bikes. When I started, we had a T-shirt, swimming trunks, a swimming hat, a coat if you were lucky and a rescue tube. It was really very different.”
His most memorable rescue took place in 2010 when three children got into trouble while swimming. There was a combination of wind and a lively spring tide. One of them was being hurled into a rock with severe cuts. The other two were being “knocked around” by the waves. Lewis swam out just with a rescue tube but managed to get all three back.
Over the years, he has performed hundreds of rescues. He says giving advice that prevents people getting into trouble is preferable to carrying out rescues. “I would love to go through the whole of summer without having to rescue anybody.”
24.Why is the training of RNLI mentioned
A.To explain the importance of swimming skills. B.To stress Lewis’s efforts and capacity.
C.To show demands of being a safeguard. D.To describe the test process of fitness swimming.
25.What made Lewis begin his life-saving career
A.His voluntary experience. B.His passion for swimming.
C.An invitation from RNLI. D.A police officer’s suggestion.
26.What can be inferred from Lewis’s words in Paragraph 4
A.RNLI cares for the safety of lifeguards. B.RNLI currently needs more lifeguards.
C.Lifeguard work was not easy in the past. D.The former lifeguards were more skilled.
27.What is the meaning of the underlined phrase in paragraph 5
A.hit repeatedly B.turned around C.hung out D.broken down

France has banned smartphone use in primary and secondary schools since 2018, arguing that it helps children focus, limits social-media use, and reduces cyberbullying. The Netherlands followed in January 2024, and Hungary soon after. Britain is now considering a similar ban. But will such measures improve students’ mental health
The problem is evident. A 2021 report from America’s surgeon general found that between 2009 and 2019, persistent hopelessness among high-school students increased by 40%, while the number considering suicide rose by 36%. Nearly half of mental-health disorders that emerge in adolescence persist into adulthood. Smartphones, often seen as the cause, provide easy access to social media, where comparison, cyberbullying, and addiction are almost everywhere. Yet proving a direct link between smartphone use and declining mental health is tricky.
The challenge lies in nuance A smartphone is a tool, used for everything from educational games to doomscrolling (刷负面新闻) on social media. Its effects on well-being depend not only on content but also on the age and developmental stage of the user. Research by Amy Orben at Cambridge suggests that social-media use is particularly harmful during puberty’s (青春期) critical developmental windows — ages 11-13 for girls, and 14-15 for boys.
Banning smartphones in schools, however, may not be the solution some expect. A recent Lancet study by Victoria Goodyear found no significant difference in mental well-being between students in schools with strict phone bans and those with relaxed policies. The real issue, researchers argue, is overall screen time, not just school use.
To make matters worse, social-media firms refuse to share detailed user data, forcing researchers to rely on simple measures like screen time. Until a clearer picture emerges, policymakers risk presenting solutions without fully identifying the problem.
28.Why is it difficult to prove a link between smartphones and mental health
A.The effects of smartphones vary among users.
B.Most students refuse to participate in studies.
C.The use of smartphones is not content-based.
D.Schools do not track phone usage accurately.
29.Why might banning phones in schools fail to improve mental health
A.Parents would oppose the new regulations.
B.Students would switch to using tablets instead.
C.Social media use extends beyond school hours.
D.Cyberbullying occurs only outside of school.
30.What is the author’s attitude towards the policymakers
A.Critical. B.Indifferent. C.Supportive. D.Annoyed.
31.What is the best title of the passage
A.Should Schools Ban Smartphones to Improve Focus and Learning
B.Will Banning Smartphones in Schools Improve Students’ Mental Health
C.Does Too Much Screen Time Harm Students’ Emotional Well-being
D.Are Social Media Platforms the Main Cause of Student Anxiety
D
In smart home AIoT technology, accurate human activity recognition is crucial. It helps smart devices identify various tasks, such as cooking and exercising. Based on this information, the AIoT system can adjust lighting or switch music automatically, thus improving users’ experience while also ensuring energy efficiency. In this context, WiFi-based motion recognition is quite promising: WiFi devices are common, ensure privacy, and tend to be cost-effective.
Recently, in a novel research article, a team of researchers led by Professor Gwanggil Jeon has come up with a new AIoT framework called MSF-Net for WiFi-based human activity recognition.
“As a typical AIoT application, WiFi-based human activity recognition is becoming increasingly popular. However, WiFi-based recognition often has unstable performance due to environmental interference (干扰) . Our goal was to overcome this problem,” Prof. Jeon said.
In this view, the researchers developed the robust deep learning framework MSF-Net, which achieves rough as well as fine activity recognition via channel state information (CSI) .
The researchers performed experiments to prove the performance of their framework, finding that it achieves remarkable Cohen's Kappa scores of 91. 82%, 69. 76%, 85. 91%, and 75. 66% on SignFi, Widar3. 0, UT-HAR, and NTU-HAR datasets, respectively. These values highlight the superior performance of MSF-Net compared to state-of-the-art techniques for WiFi data-based coarse and fine activity recognition.
“The multimodal frequency fusion technique has significantly improved accuracy and efficiency compared to existing technologies, increasing the possibility of practical applications. This research can be used in various fields such as smart homes, and care for the elderly. For instance, it can prevent falls by analyzing the user's movements and contribute to improving the quality of life by establishing a non-face-to-face health monitoring system, ” concludes Prof. Jeon.
Overall, activity recognition using WiFi, the combination of IoT and AI suggested in this work, is expected to greatly improve people's lives through everyday convenience and safety!
32.What is the function of paragraph 1
A.To predict a scientific tendency. B.To introduce some smart devices.
C.To bring out the topic of the text. D.To show the popularity of smart home.
33.What is the advantage of MSF-Net
A.Making going online much faster. B.Reducing the risk of illegal access.
C.Solving the problem of inaccessible Internet. D.Making human activity recognition more stable.
34.How does the author prove the good function of MSF-Net
A.By making comparisons. B.By offering charts and diagrams.
C.By displaying users’ assessment. D.By quoting famous scientists’ words.
35.What does the passage mainly talk about
A.The new function of WiFi. B.The application of MSF-Net.
C.The convenience of smart home. D.The newly—developed technology.
People only exhibit their best moments on social media. Some celebrities are airbrushed (美化) or hide the truth of their plastic surgery. Many people photoshop their faces and bodies to look exactly how they want. 36 It seems that all the people are in pursuit of presenting their best images.
Beyond these “best images”, some social media heavily promote eating disorder culture and unhealthy attitudes about food and weight in general. Some social media also promote over-exercising. 37 However, pushing yourself too hard can be harmful and contributes to some eating disorders. When someone is exercising a lot, they need to eat more to fuel their body, but some people are often eating less than they should while pushing their bodies beyond the limit.
38 Basically, people who struggle with eating disorders tend to think that they aren’t “sick enough”. If they encounter others with eating disorders, they constantly compare themselves. Thus, people, using social media, need to avoid posting videos or pictures with body checking, constant weighing, or calorie counting. This type of content simply isn’t helpful for anyone. So if you feel like you need to lose weight, discuss it with your doctor and make a personalized plan. 39
As for me, I’ve learned a lot from my own struggle with an eating disorder. During my treatment, the most striking thing my nutritionist said to me was, “ 40 ” She’s absolutely right. Self-love isn’t always realistic; self-acceptance is much better.
A.You need to love your body.
B.Take yourself as what you are.
C.Indeed, proper exercising is healthy.
D.A lot of the actual photos are straight-up fake.
E.There are countless methods of changing their bodies.
F.Don’t listen to strangers who don’t know you or your body.
G.It’s essential to avoid posting things that could cause body image issues.

The R1 model released by Chinese company DeepSeek has impressed those in the industry with all the features it shows. Similar to OpenAI ol, the R1 model achieves performance comparable at 3 percent of the cost. DeepSeek R1 is 56 first-generation reasoning model, 57 (train) via large-scale reinforcement learning, like OpenAI ol.
However, unlike OpenAI ol, DeepSeek R1 is totally open sourced, allowing developers and professionals and everybody easy access to the 58 (code) it has used in developing the model.
Compared with the 59 (exist) giants, DeepSeek, founded in 2023, is a young company. The small model that DeepSeek has chosen 60 (develop) is also a practical strategy for both itself and young enterprises like it in the industry. Currently the mainstream AI models describe things with parameters. For example, they describe a banana with parameters 61 include “yellow”, “strip-shaped”, “edible” and “sweet”. The number of parameters is an essential measurement of AI models, as the model that can accurately describe an object with 62 (few) parameters has higher efficiency.
DeepSeek V3, one of the open-source models released by DeepSeek, which shows higher efficiency, 63 (have) only 671 billion parameters, of which 37 billion are activated in usage, both of which are quite low in the industry. More importantly, through deep 64 (explore), it manages to train that model using only 2048 H800 GPUs of Nvidia 65 the cost of $5.6 million, which is just a small percentage of the cost incurred by OpenAI and Google for training similar types of models.

My dad, George, only had an eighth grade education. A quiet man, he didn’t understand my world of school activities. From age 14. he worked. And his dad, Albert, took the money my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.
I didn’t really understand his world either. He was a trucker, and I thought that I would surpass (超过) anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation.
Summers in the mid-70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback (橄榄球四分卫) on a football team. In poor weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone (长号).
The summer before my eighth grade I was one of a group of boys that a neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task. the tractor fired up and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a short way, the farmer stopped and pointed at a weed which we missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but we soon learned to identify different grasses like cockleburs, lamb’s-quarters and the king of weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work, but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn’t sure how much it would amount to.
At home, my dad said, “A job’s a big step to growing up. I’m glad you will be contributing to the household.” My dad’s words made me realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished.
My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I wasn’t interested. I decided it was not fair that I had to contribute my money.

W: Okay, there are sixteen Euros each, or 27 Euros for two.
M: I’ll just have one, thanks.
W: Would you like one of these pens They’re only eight Euros each.
M: No thanks, just the giraffe.

W: That’s right, but a lot of people eat like you.
M: What does that mean
W: Your diet consists of fast food and soft drinks. That’s not healthy.

A.hit repeatedly B.turned around C.hung out D.broken down
【答案】24.B 25.D 26.C 27.A
根据文章第二段“Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards must complete a 400m pool swim in under 7.5 minutes. (皇家国家救生艇协会(RNLI)的救生员必须在7.5分钟内游完400米泳池。他们必须在50秒内完成25米的水下游泳和25米的水面游泳,并在40秒内沿着海滩跑200米。这些测试对Lewis来说仍相对轻松。整个冬天,他每月坚持冬泳3000米)”可推知,RNLI的训练要求被提及是为了强调Lewis的体能和长期努力。故选B。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Lewis’s adventure began in 1965 when a police officer spotted that he was a keen swimmer and suggested he get his lifesaving badges. (Lewis的职业生涯始于1965年,当时一名警官发现他热爱游泳,并建议他考取救生员资格)”可知,Lewis进行救生事业的直接原因是一名警察的建议。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第四段Lewis的对比描述“When I started, we had a T-shirt, swimming trunks, a swimming hat, a coat if you were lucky and a rescue tube. It was really very different. (最初的时候,我们只有一件T恤、泳裤、一顶游泳帽、一件外套(如果幸运的话)和一根救生管。这真的很不一样)”可推知,过去救生员工作条件艰苦。故选C。
27.词句猜测题。根据上文“One of them was being hurled into a rock with severe cuts. (其中一人被抛向一块岩石上,被严重割伤了)”以及“by the waves (被海浪)”结合语境可推知,此处指两个孩子被海浪推着,反复撞击到岩石上。从而猜测,画线短语“knocked around”意为“反复撞击”。故选A。

【答案】28.A 29.C 30.A 31.B
根据文章第三段中“The challenge lies in nuance (微妙之处). A smartphone is a tool, used for everything from educational games to doomscrolling (刷负面新闻) on social media. Its effects on well-being depend not only on content but also on the age and developmental stage of the user.(挑战在于细微差别。智能手机是一种工具,从教育游戏到社交媒体上的末日卷轴,它被用来做任何事情。它对幸福感的影响不仅取决于内容,还取决于用户的年龄和发展阶段)”可知,智能手机是一种工具,其对健康的影响不仅取决于内容,还取决于用户的年龄和发展阶段,即智能手机的影响因用户而异,所以很难证明智能手机和心理健康之间的联系。故选A项。
根据文章第四段中“A recent Lancet study by Victoria Goodyear found no significant difference in mental well-being between students in schools with strict phone bans and those with relaxed policies. The real issue, researchers argue, is overall screen time, not just school use.( 维多利亚·古德伊尔(Victoria Goodyear)最近在《柳叶刀》上发表的一项研究发现,在严格禁止使用手机的学校和政策宽松的学校,学生的心理健康状况没有显著差异。
故选A项。
根据文章大意以及第一段“France has banned smartphone use in primary and secondary schools since 2018, arguing that it helps children focus, limits social-media use, and reduces cyberbullying. The Netherlands followed in January 2024, and Hungary soon after. Britain is now considering a similar ban. But will such measures improve students’ mental health

根据第一段“In smart home AIoT technology, accurate human activity recognition is crucial. It helps smart devices identify various tasks, such as cooking and exercising. Based on this information, the AIoT system can adjust lighting or switch music automatically, thus improving users’ experience while also ensuring energy efficiency. In this context, WiFi-based motion recognition is quite promising: WiFi devices are common, ensure privacy, and tend to be cost-effective.(在智能家居AIoT技术中,准确的人类活动识别至关重要。

36.根据上文“People only exhibit their best moments on social media. Some celebrities are airbrushed (美化) or hide the truth of their plastic surgery. Many people photoshop their faces and bodies to look exactly how they want. (人们只会在社交媒体上展示自己最美好的时刻。一些名人被美化或隐瞒他们整容的真相。许多人把自己的脸和身体PS成他们想要的样子。)”可知,前文列举了社交媒体上很多使自己变美的例子,故此空是对前文的总结,故E选项“有无数的方法可以改变他们的身体。”符合语境,故选E。
37.根据上文“Beyond these “best images”, some social media heavily promote eating disorder culture and unhealthy attitudes about food and weight in general. Some social media also promote over-exercising. (除了这些“最佳图片”,一些社交媒体还大力宣传饮食失调文化,以及对食物和体重的不健康态度。一些社交媒体也提倡过度锻炼。)”以及后文“However, pushing yourself too hard can be harmful and contributes to some eating disorders .(然而,把自己逼迫太厉害也可能是有害的。)”
38.根据后文“Basically, people who struggle with eating disorders tend to think that they aren’t “sick enough”.

40.根据后文“Self-love isn’t always realistic; self-acceptance is much better. (自爱并不总是现实的;自我接纳要好得多。)”可知,后文提到了要自我接受,即建议接受自己本来的样子,做自己。故B选项“做你自己。”符合语境,故选B。

第二节(共10小题;每小题1. 5分, 满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或所给单词的正确形式。
56.a 57.trained 58.codes 59.existing 60.to develop 61.that/which 62.fewer 63.has 64.exploration 65.at
故填 a。
choose to do sth.
at the cost of...

Paragraph 2:
I was surprised that my dad allowed me to use the money as I wished.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
I finally got a total of $119 and Dad wanted to talk to me. Sitting at the kitchen table, he placed his calloused hands over mine. “When I was your age,” he began, “my earnings fed the family. I never held a dollar for myself.” His voice softened. “But times are different now. You worked hard and this money is yours to decide.” My cheeks burned, recalling how I’d complained about fairness. Dad’s eyes held no judgment, only quiet pride. For the first time, I saw beyond his silence from a man who carried burdens so I might choose my own path.
Paragraph 2:
I was surprised that my dad allowed me to use the money as I wished. That night, I stared at the crumpled bills, torn between buying a new football jersey or saving for college. Then I remembered Dad’s hands which was rough from steering trucks, yet gentle when handing me my earnings. The next morning, I slid $50 into Mom’s grocery fund and kept the rest. At breakfast, Dad noticed but said nothing. His nod, though, spoke volumes. In that moment, I understood: growing up wasn’t about surpassing him, but learning to walk beside him, shouldering small weights to lighten his lifelong load.
