一、阅读理解(本大题共5小题)
For travelers taking the train from Stockholm to Abisko, there’s a shared goal—witnessing the Northern Lights. Abisko, a small town about 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle, is one of Sweden’s northernmost settlements and has some of the clearest skies in Europe, a golden ticket for those who are crazy about the Northern Lights.
The train departs from Stockholm at 6 p. m. daily and arrives in Sápmi—the traditional territory of the Sámi people, with a pink sunrise over snow plains and fir trees. At night you can spot the Milky Way and other dark sky phenomena from your hotel window or head to remote areas of the village, such as Lake Tornetr sk Pier.
The best way to see the lights may be on the return train to Stockholm. Barely 30 minutes have passed before an announcement rings out over the train’s speakers: “If you look out of the right-hand windows, you’ll see a wonderful show from the Northern Lights.” A number of tourists in the carriage rush to press their faces against the windows and are treated to hours of recurring lights.
Norwegian railway service Vy runs a direct Stockholm-to-Abisko train daily, leaving at 6 p. m. and arriving by 11 a. m. Single ticket options include a single seat($95), a berth(卧铺)in a six-person carriage($140), a berth in a three-person carriage($170), a private second-class compartment(隔间)for groups of three($400), or a first-class private compartment with a toilet and shower($600).

Vusi Mdoyi, a young boy growing up in a poor township near Johannesburg in the 1980s, was fascinated by the dance moves he saw around him. The rapid foot taps, complex knee twists, and body shakes came together in a unique style known as pantsula, a dance form that offered a short moment of joy in the dark days of poverty.
At just 5 years old, Vusi began imitating the dance moves and displayed a precocious talent for it. By 10, he performed in school festivals. Now, at 44, Vusi is a celebrated dancer and choreographer (编舞者)who has helped improve pantsula from a street art to a respected global dance form.
In 1998, while still a teenager, Vusi participated in workshops organized by Step Afrika!, a dance company that combined African American step dancing with traditional African styles. This exposure to international dance helped Vusi become proud of pantsula, a style that had once been ignored.
Encouraged by that recognition and the passion to make this art form known to more people, Vusi made his first overseas trip in 2001 to teach pantsula in Britain. Then the following year, he toured internationally with Via Katlehong, a dance company from his township.
Vusi’s latest dance, “The Tattered Soul of a Worker”, performed in Soweto in 2023, reflects his journey and the challenges of South African migrant (迁移的) workers. The dancers, dressed in mid-century suits and carrying beer crates, criticize the capitalist (资本主义的) system that forces workers to endure hardships.
Black South Africans began to take up tap dancing in the 1960s after seeing it in American films. That eventually developed into pantsula, which started in townships, where Black South Africans were forced to live. In the 1990s, Vusi and other dancers seized the opportunity to turn their passion into art, forever changing the global perception of dance from South Africa.
4.What influence did Vusi’s involvement with Step Afrika! have on him
A.He won widespread acceptance. B.He discovered new dance techniques.
C.He gained a sense of pride in pantsula. D.He met international masters in dance.
5.Why did Vusi go on tour in 2002
A.To make pantsula familiar to more people. B.To help foreigners perfect their art form.
C.To participate in a dance competition. D.To add new dance styles to pantsula.
6.What did Vusi’s latest dance imply
A.The daily struggles of migrant workers. B.The eventful journey of Vusi to Soweto.
C.The beauty of nature in South Africa. D.The challenges facing dancers.
7.Which words can best describe Vusi
A.Determined and considerate. B.Gifted and responsible.
C.Creative and generous. D.Passionate and frank.
An organization called Ulum Dalska, located in a small Swedish town called lvdalen, is on a mission. For decades, members have been working hard to help save a language called Elfdalian, the remains of Old Norse.
Elfdalian, which press secretary Bj rn Rehnstr m said was hit by the popularity of Swedish about 100 years ago, sounds nothing like the country’s national language — Swedish. At that point, Elfdalian became stigmatized.
Ulla Schütt, a Ulum Dalska member, saw the impact first-hand while growing up in lvdalen. “My parents spoke Elfdalian with everyone else around,” Schütt said. “But when they turned to me, they spoke Swedish.” That’s what was spoken in schools. Students were even discouraged from speaking Elfdalian in the classroom.
Now, there’re only about 2,500 speakers left. But people are getting creative in the fight to change that trend. The language is getting a boost on Minecraft. Musicians are releasing new songs with Elfdalian lyrics (歌词). Several children’s books were also translated into Elfdalian. Additionally, Rehnstr m helps run a popular online group that offers courses in the Elfdalian language, where he posts lessons to the group’s 1,800 global members.
The local government supports the teaching and preservation of Elfdalian. The language is also recognized on an international level. In 2016, it was assigned an ISO language code, which helps the Internet distinguish one language from another.
But the national government of Sweden is a different story. They currently consider Elfdalian a dialect of Swedish, not its own language. Speaking in Elfdalian, Swedish MP Peter Helander recently asked Parliament (国会)why that’s the case. But before Culture Minister Amanda Lind could answer the question, the parliamentary speaker Luca interrupted them both to say that only Swedish may be spoken.
Schütt said every time a language dies — which some research suggests is as often as once every two weeks — it is a sad moment. To her, losing Elfdalian would be an especially tragic loss. Getting Elfdalian recognized as a language by the Swedish government, she added, is key to making sure that it doesn’t disappear.
8.What is the task of Ulum Dalska
A.To promote a small Swedish town. B.To protect an endangered language.
C.To figure out the remains of Old Norse. D.To teach town residents a new language.
9.What does the underlined word “stigmatized” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Celebrated. B.Disrespected. C.Documented. D.Reorganized.
10.What attitude does Rehnstr m probably hold towards Elfdalian
A.Favorable. B.Tolerant. C.Objective. D.Dismissive.
11.What does Schütt think is essential to the protection of Elfdalian
A.Releasing more songs in Elfdalian. B.Getting international recognition.
C.Setting up online language groups. D.Seeking the national government’s support.
For hundreds of years, the island of Santiago has been home to a unique population of free-ranging monkeys, creating a popular natural laboratory for researchers. In 2017, a hurricane significantly impacted the island, destroying more than two-thirds of plants.
Even now, tree cover remains far below pre-hurricane levels, which makes shade a precious resource for the monkeys. In response to the violent changes caused by the hurricane, they increased tolerance and decreased attacks towards each other, a new study found.
The researchers were motivated by a finding in their previous work on the same monkey population: The animals became more accepting of one another and built new relationships despite insufficient resource availability. But this time, the team wanted to explore whether the monkeys were simply passively engaging in these shade-sharing behaviors due to the fact that they were being “forced” into limited space.
For 10 years in a row, the researchers collected behavioral data across seven social groups. They constructed networks for each group to draw comparisons before and after the hurricane. “Before the hurricane, tolerating others had no impact on the risk of death,” first author Testard says. “Afterwards, the monkeys that displayed more than average social tolerance and were therefore better able to share shade, were 42% less likely to die than those that were less tolerant.”
This represents a sudden change in “selection pressure”, the evolutionary (进化的) benefits or costs of different characteristics or behaviors. “To access shade, they need to tolerate and be tolerated by others, and we found that this tolerance influences other daily interactions,” says Testard. “Monkeys that began sharing shade also spent time together in the mornings, before the day’s heat forces them to seek shade.”
Professor Brent adds that “monkeys are known for living in an aggressive (好斗的) and highly competitive society. But in the heat caused by ecological changes, they cooperatively coped with disturbances in the environment. We were surprised that the monkeys’ social behavior was so flexible, making them quickly adjust to this environmental change.”
12.How did the hurricane affect the monkeys
A.They had a higher death rate. B.They were more friendly to companions.
C.They developed resistance to disasters. D.They moved to places with more shade.
13.What’s the purpose of the new study
A.To find out how the monkeys shared shade.
B.To confirm the interactions between the monkeys.
C.To study the impacts of resources on monkeys.
D.To explore the reasons for the monkeys’ tolerance.
14.What led to monkeys’ changing behavior
A.The chance of better survival. B.The larger population of monkeys.
C.The easy availability of resources. D.The increasing human disturbances.
15.What does the text mainly talk about
A.Natural disasters are the main danger facing wild animals.
B.Monkeys rely on human intervention to survive disasters.
C.Aggression is the primary social behavior in monkey groups.
D.Environmental pressure drives animals’ rapid behavioral evolution.
Rucking (负重行军) is becoming very popular in the fitness world. But what is it In short, it means going on a walk while carrying a weighted bag, usually a rucksack, on your back. The concept comes from army training. 16 Although this might be the first time you’ve heard of rucking, chances are that you have probably already engaged in rucking without even knowing it while walking to school with a bag full of books or while going to work.
Rucking is super simple to do and to start doing. 17 You start by adding weight to your bag, either with actual weights or heavy items you already have, and then you zip it up, put it on your back and walk! That is literally all there is to it.
18 You can regularly increase the weight you carry as well as the pace you walk at. Of course, before starting or making any changes to your exercise and lifestyle, you should consult with your physician to ensure it is safe for you.
There are many benefits of rucking, such as muscle building, improved cardiovascular (心血管的) health, and better bone and joint health. 19 It seems like these are some of the reasons why the trend has become so popular.
So whether you are looking for a new physical activity to start doing or are just curious about why it seems like everyone is into rucking, go ahead and give it a try. 20
A.All you need is a backpack and some motivation.
B.Rucking helps you build up strength one step at a time.
C.That way you get healthy both physically and mentally.
D.When engaged, you will also be much mentally stronger.
E.You might be surprised about how enjoyable it actually is.
F.Rucking is more than just a passing trend and is here to stay.
G.It has lately been adapted to be used by any person able to walk.

I am often on the road three weeks out of every month flying from city to city to conduct one-day workshops and week-long training sessions. In other words, I have almost no time for other things.
I learned early on that if you want a concept or principle to be remembered, you must illustrate it with a moving story. So I had always collected and used a lot of stories to drive home the points I was teaching in my seminars(研讨会)about the importance of acting from love, believing in yourself and your dreams, always following your heart, trusting your intuition(直觉), setting high goals, overcoming obstacles, and never ever giving up on your dreams.
Two years ago, a strange thing happened. One day, out of the blue, someone asked me, “Is that story you told about the Girl Scout who sold 3,526 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in one year in a book anywhere My daughter needs to read it.” The very next day someone asked, “That story about the boy and the puppy—is that in a book anywhere I need to read it to my son.” It continued day after day for the next month. “I need to read that story about the boy with one leg who became a star to my staff. I need to show them that they really have no excuses not to excel in life.” “Is that story you told about the boy who was burned in the motorcycle accident in a book anywhere I want to send it to my son in college.” Day after day I was asked the same question— “Is that story in a book anywhere ”
I was busy with work. I had countless stories, but they were all over the place, in my head or on old notes. I knew I couldn’t meet these demands while keeping up with my teaching.
