The winner of this year′s Pritzker Architecture Prize is Liu Jiakun. The prize, established in1979, is referred to as“the Nobel Prize of arch tecture”.
Liu, born in 1956 in Chengdu, grew up in a brick hospital where his mom worked as a doctor. He spent his childhood exploring the building′s passages and climbing to its rooftop to observe Chengdu′ s evolving cityscape. He witnessed a blend(融合) of traditional wooden homes and emerging modern structure, which deeply influenced his later architectural philosophy.
After graduating in 1982, Liu joined a state-owned arehutecture firm in Tibet, but felt torn between his profession and passion for writing. “I had two identities: architect and writer,” he recalled. Over time, he discovered parallels between writing and architecture, noting that both share vocabularies— beginnings, climaxes, and endings, and require observing society and human behavior. This interdisciplinary approach became central to his work.
Liu′s designs are celebrated for translating traditional Chinese culture into contemporary forms. His West Village complex (2015) in Chengdu is a typical example of this vision.Extending over an entire city block, it combines bike paths, public open square, sidewalks and historical buildings, creating a space that bridges past and present. A 2020 exhibition praised it as a“modern interpretation of Chinese culture”.
Beyond aesthetics (美学) , Liu′s work carries humanitarian significance. After the 2008Sichuan earthquake destroyed villages, he created“rebirth bricks” from debris and straw to rebuild homes. “Each brick carries history,” he said, symbolizing rebirth. Though production stopped when debris ran out, he emphasized their enduring relevance:“Wherever disasters strike, these bricks offer hope.”
The Pritzker judges praised Liu′s“respect for culture, history, and nature,” particularly his ability to harmonize tradition with modernity. His“water philosophy” defines his approach:“Architecture should sink in a place like water, adapt to its environment, and solidify while maintaining the land′ s essence— defects and virtues.” This philosophy is embodied in his earthquake recovery efforts, which transformed tragedy into enduring symbolism.

After spending more than nine months orbiting Earth, two U. S. astronauts finally returned home on March 18,2025, landing at 5:57 p. m . EDT off the coast of Tallahassee, Fla.
The pair left on June 5 for what was supposed to be an eight-day mission to theInternational Space Station. But the Boeing (波音) Starliner that the two launched in— the spacecraft′ s first flight test with crew— experienced technical issues as it neared the InternationalSpace Station. Williams and Wilmore had planned to return to Earth aboard the vehicle, butNASA delayed their flight, bringing back a crewless Starliner.
Months later, the astronauts travelled home with Space X. It′s far from the first time people have been stuck in space, or the longest stay there. Such long duration in space is hard on the body. “Impacts on health would be pretty dramatic,” says applied physiologist Rachael Seidler of the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Williams and Wilmore will undergo a series of medical tests from NASA called SpaceflightStandard Measures. The agency will extensively examine astronauts′ health pre-, in-, and post-flight. Seidler expects the pair to have some problems for the first few days to weeks. The vestibular system(前庭系统) in the inner ear, which helps individuals sense where their body parts are, relies on gravity, and the microgravity of space can mess with it. Williams andWilmore may also have vision changes.
Another big question is the immune system′s response during spaceflight, says bioastronautics researcher Eliah Overbey of the University of Austin in Texas. She and her colleagues assessed health data from the Space X Inspiration 4 civilian crew, who spent three days in space. Some of the crew′ s immune cells underwent DNA reorganization, she says.“We′ re wondering how, over time, this could impact the body′ s ability to respond to disease.”
The tests may help answer such questions. “Our ability to be competitive in space exploration is going to depend on our ability to keep astronauts healthy,” Overbey says.

A unique partnership between do phins and humans has lasted for generations. In the case of cooperative inter-species foraging(搜索食物) in southern Brazil, dolphins and hands catch more fish together. Dolphins and humans have hunted mullet(鲻鱼) together in Laguna, Brazil, for generations, increasing the catch for both species. Drone-based videos show that the dolphins cooperate with each other during these hunts, researchers report February 12 in Current Zoology.
In the muddy river mouths in southern Brazil, the dolphins round up schools of mullet toward the shallows where humans wait for just the right moment to cast their nets, signaled by a dolphin′s tail slap against the water or sudden dive. The dolphms can then pull a few fish from the net to eat or more easily prey on the mullet trapped against the outside of the nets.
“This is a rare interaction between two top predators comb ning their supportive skills,”says Mauricio Cantor, a behavioral ecologist at Oregon State University′ s Marine MammalInstitute in Newport.
Previous research from a 40-year-long monitoring program centered around this joint dolphin-human foraging has shown how the humans cooperate with each other to maximize their fish catch. But scientists weren′t sure if the dolphins also cooperated with each other or instead competed for the mullet.
In a new study, Cantor and his colleagues used drones to film dolphins′ foraging behavior near Laguna over 18 days during the peak of mullet migration season. They found dolphins and people had a higher chance of joint success when dolphins approached humans along several paths as they rounded up fish and when they matched dives, the researchers found.
These behaviors reveal a complex level of cooperation that allows the dolphins to“adapt to and capitalize on human activities,” says Bruno Díaz López, a biologist at the BottlenoseDolphin Research Institute in Pontevedra, Spain. He adds, “This serves as just one lasting example that our interactions with nature don′t have to be one-sided. They can be mutual, too.”

Lucas, one of the top art students at Maplewood High, hadn′t touched his violin since his teacher Mr. Hayes said his playing was“technically perfect but cold.” Those words discouraged him:“Where is the heart in your music ” But with the spring concert approaching, he returned toPractice Room 3.
In the hallway, he saw Mia Chen, the quiet new student, practicing Beethoven′s“MoonlightSonata”. Her fingers trembled on the piano keys, making broken notes(音符). Under her sheet music were braille(盲文) pages. Lucas suddenly remembered laughing with friends weeks ago, calling Mia′s playing“robot music.” Guilt tightened his throat.
Wanting to help, Lucas knocked on the door and stepped in. Mia refused at first, shaking her head and turning back to the piano. But Lucas didn′t give up. He tapped a simple rhythm on the piano lid—— tap-tap, tap-tap—— like a heartbeat. Slowly, Mia′s stiff(僵硬的) shoulders relaxed as she followed his rhythm.
After a while, Lucas also took out his violin. The piano notes and violin sounds mixed together. Sometimes Mia played wrong keys, and Lucas missed some notes, but Mia kept smiling brightly. She even laughed when they made mistakes.
During a break, Lucas asked, “Why do you practice so much ”
Mia touched her braille sheets. “I can′t see flowers,” she said softly. “But gentle music feels like green grass. Strong music sounds like big waves. Music helps me see the world.”
“Let′s play together at the spring concert!” Lucas said.
Mia shook her head quickly. “No! I′m not good enough!” Lucas insisted. “I′ ll help with the hard parts. We can practice every day!”
After some time, Mia nodded. From then on, Practice Room 3 was always filled with music.Lucas tapped rhythms on Mia′ s arm to help her feel the beat. Mia asked Lucas to play with his eyes closed. “Just feel the music,” she said.
Gradually, their playing changed. Lucas′s cold violin gained warmth, while Mia′s nervous piano grew confident. They were learning to speak through music.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150词左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Finally came the spring concert, and Lucas stood side by side with Mia on the stage.
From the cheering crowd, Mr. Hayes stepped forward and patted Lucas′s shoulder.

Labor Education Shapes Us
Labor education, an essential part of our growth, has brought me unexpected treasures. Last semester, we had a fun“Turn Trash into Treasure” labor lesson. Our group decided to make flower pots from plastic bottles. Cutting the bottles was tricky and painting them took patience. We laughed at our messy hands but kept helping each other. Finally, we placed colorful pots with flowers on the windowsill of our classroom.
This lesson changed me——I now see “junk” as hidden opportunities. At home, I turn worn-out clothes into shopping bags. Labor isn′t merely about tasks; it sparks creativity and teaches me to value resources.
Let′s embrace labor education!

The music reached its climax just as the final notes lingered in the air, and the audience erupted into thunderous applause.
