On November 7th, 2023, ESA’s Euclid (欧几里得) space telescope (望远镜) sent back its first full-colour pictures of the universe.
Last July, people sent Euclid into space. Its job is to find out how dark matter (物质) and dark energy (能量) have made our universe look the way it does today. 95% of our universe appears to be made of these “dark” things. But we still don’t understand what they are. However, Euclid is able to take a clear picture across a huge part of the sky. This time, Euclid sent back 5 pictures. One of them shows us the spiral galaxy (螺旋星系) IC 342. It is a look-alike of our Milky Way. Thanks to its infrared view (红外线视图), Euclid has already discovered very important information about the stars in this galaxy.
Euclid’s first full-colour pictures of the universe are not only beautiful, but also very helpful for scientists. They show that Euclid is working quite well and that scientists can use it to study the matters in the universe. In the coming months, scientists will study the pictures taken by Euclid, extract (提取) information from them and write many scientific papers.
What’s more, over the next six years, Euclid will take a close look at billions of galaxies 10 billion light years from us. By doing this, it will create the largest 3D map ever made. And the pictures by it will take us common people to a much farther universe. How large is it 这是无法想象的。

Every year on March 14, mathematicians, like Chen Jingrun and Gauss and math lovers around the world celebrate Pi Day. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The idea itself is as easy as pie. Even middle schoolers can 62 understand it. But the real value of pi is difficult to calculate (计算). We only know it 63 with 3.14. The number goes on and on. The numbers 64 appear in a certain pattern
People have worked on the value of pi for thousands of years. In the fifth century, Zu Chongzhi correctly calculated pi to seven decimal places. There 65 no computers or calculators at that time. Zu didn’t even use an abacus. For 900 years after him, nobody could calculate the number any 66 . That’s why pi is also known as “Zu’s ratio”. Then in 2021, some scientists calculated pi to 62.8 trillion (万亿) decimal places. In fact, we hardly need more than 15 decimal places of pi. Then 67 did scientists work out the 62.8 trillionth number Were scientists just 68 time
Jan de Gier, a mathematician in Australia, says it is not useful in itself, but it teaches us nothing is 69 . Our lives are full of the unknowns. Pi is 70 life. We don’t know what is going to happen. And we’ll surely face many problems, but many 71 are waiting for us, too. Maybe tomorrow the pattern will be found. Who knows

根据“The idea itself is as easy as pie.”
故填never。
故填were。
结合“For 900 years after him, nobody could calculate the number any”和备选词汇可知没有人能进一步算这个数字。
根据“In fact, we hardly need more than 15 decimal places of pi.”
结合“but it teaches us nothing is”和备选词汇可知形容词possible的反义词“impossible不可能的”符合语境,故填impossible。
“be like”表示“像”,故填like。
根据“And we’ll surely face many problems, but many…are waiting for us”可知是指很多惊喜也正等着我们。
72.例文:
Hello, everybody! It’s my turn to tell you something about the space. As you know, the universe is very large. There are many galaxies in the universe. For example, the galaxy has billions of stars. The sun is one of them in the solar system. The earth goes round the sun and the moon goes round the earth.
So far, scientists have done a lot of research about space. Especially, our Chinese astronauts have been to the space many times. We have built a great space station.
