In Tongren city, Guizhou Province, there is a special embroidery called leaf-vein embroidery (叶脉刺绣).This type of embroidery began in the Song Dynasty. It was used for communication among different ethnic groups in Southwestern China.
Making leaf-vein embroidery is not easy.It takes a lot of steps, including choosing the right leaves, drying them, creating the designs and embroidering.Yang Li, a master of this craft (手艺), mentioned that in the last ten years, only about 20 people could complete the whole process by themselves.
Because of the time-consuming (费时的) and hard work, passing on the traditional craft faces challenges.“I have introduced this art to universities, communities and villages, but very few people have continued to do it,” Yang said.“I feel a duty to pass on this craft,” she said.
In 2022, Yang set up the Guizhou embroidery intangible cultural heritage base (黔绣非物质文化遗产基地) and started to share traditional skills of leaf-vein embroidery by making short videos online.“

Traditional Chinese culture has a long history and it includes many excellent forms. Among all traditional Chinese cultures, my favorite is calligraphy. This beautiful art uses brush and ink to create Chinese characters. Each stroke shows different styles—some are strong like mountains, but others are soft like flowing water.
I love calligraphy for two reasons.First, it can help me stay calm and focused.Second, it's like a bridge connecting modern people with ancient wisdom. When I write characters like he or youyi, I can feel the power of our culture.
To pass on this treasure, I'll post my calligraphy works online and teach people basic strokes by making videos.Let's work together to share its magic!
