A man went to see a doctor.
“Open your mouth.” the doctor said.
The man opened his mouth and the doctor looked in quickly.
“It's clear what's wrong with you. You need more exercise.” the doctor said.
“But doctor,” the man said. “I don't think so.”
“Don't tell me what you think.” the doctor said. “I am the doctor, not you. I know what you need. I see hundreds of people like you. None of them get any exercise. They sit in offices all day and in front of the television in the evening. What you need is to walk quickly for at least 20 minutes a day.”
“Doctor, you don't understand,” the man said, “I…”
“I don't want to hear any excuses.” the doctor said, “You must find time for exercise. If you don't want to get fat and have health problems when you are older.”
“But I walk every day.” the man said.
“Oh, yes, and I know what kind of walking that is. You walk a few feet to the train station from your house, a few more feet from the station to your office, and a few more feet from your office to a restaurant for lunch and back. That's not real walking. I'm talking about a walk in the park for twenty minutes every day.”

Everybody will have some health problems. Here are Mr. Black's problems and his doctor's advice. I hope they can help you.
Mr. Black's problems
My name is David Black. I live in a small house. I never go out when the weather is cold or hot, because I am worried I'll have a cold. I don't go out often because I don't want to talk with others. I hardly exercise, but sometimes I take a walk in my garden. After I walk for a few minutes, I have to take a rest. I am always very weak and tired. I often have a headache but I don't want to see a doctor. What should I do
Dr. Smith's advice
Traditional Chinese doctors believe we need a balance of yin and yang to be healthy. I think you have too much yin because you are always worried about something and you don't like going out or talking with others. I think you should eat some yang foods, like beef and you need to exercise more. Also, talking with others can make you feel relaxed. And if you don't feel very well, it's important for you to go to see a doctor. And you will feel better after you take some Chinese medicine.
(1). The underlined word "they" in Paragraph 1 refers to "______".
A.Mr. Black and Dr. Smith

A.To eat some yang foods.
B.To play more sports.
C.To stay at home and rest.
D.To take some Chinese medicine.
(5). Which of the following is RIGHT according to the passage
A.Mr. Black often has yang foods.
B.Mr. Black has to have a rest after a short walk.
C.Mr. Black often sees a doctor when he feels bad.
D.Mr. Black likes to eat beef very much.
(C)
I have three children and I make them do housework. However, my mother-in-law (婆婆) doesn’t agree with me. She thinks I’m too harsh. In her opinion, parents shouldn’t be too strict with children. It is adults’ job to do housework.
I think our family is made up of five family numbers. No one in the family is more important than others, so each member should help with chores. I don’t ask my children to do the same chores, because their ages are different.
At the end of the day, after they finish playing with their toys, I ask them to put the toys away. If they don’t, they will have to say goodbye to their toys. I expect my children to set the table at night and help fold their own clothes. I don’t think I’m asking too much.
I know they are tired after a long day’s study at school, but that’s life—harsh but real. I don’t want to pay them for doing some chores. They live in the house, so they should help out with some things in the house. No one is going to pay them for cleaning up their rooms later in life and I’m not about to start doing it now.
Some parents protect their children too much from anything unpleasant (使人不愉快的) and make their children’s lives too comfortable and safe, but I’m not interested in that way. I hope my children are able to look after themselves and can be independent early.
(1). What can we learn about the writer’s mother-in-law

D.She doesn’t want the writer to do housework.
(2). The underlined word “harsh” here means “________” in Chinese.
A.严厉的 B.幼稚的 C.纵容的 D.嚣张的
(3). When the writer asks her children to do chores, ________.
A.she often asks them to do the hard ones
B.she often asks them to do the easy ones
C.she asks them to do different ones
D.she asks her mother-in-law for advice
(4). If her children don’t put away their toys, the writer ________.
A.won’t give the children pocket money
B.will ask her mother-in-law to do it
C.will put the toys away by herself
D.will probably throw the toys away
(5). From the last paragraph, the writer wants to tell us “________”.
A.parents should protect children
B.parents should help children be independent

(D)
When Jane and Billy were little, they got along well. The fights didn’t start until they were both 10 years old.
“Mom, Billy won’t give my book back!”
“It’s not yours. It’s mine!”
And so it went. Our peaceful house had turned into a war zone (战区). But we found a solution.
We talked to the kids and discussed what would happen if they argued again. We came up with a list of “punishments (惩罚)” that we would give them if they fought. But they weren’t really punishments — just nice things that we would ask them to do for each other. For example, if Jane started a fight, we would ask her to clean Billy’s room. If Billy started a fight, we would ask him to give Jane a hug.
We wrote these “punishments” on a circular board (圆形板子) with an arrow in the middle. If one of them started a fight, he/she would have to spin (转动) the board and receive the “punishment”.
This “punishment wheel” worked wonders (取得惊人成效). Soon the kids stopped arguing so often. We didn’t have to really punish them — we just had to teach them to be nice to each other.
(1). What does the underlined word “peaceful” mean
A.Quiet. B.Noisy. C.Comfortable. D.Exciting.
(2). What did the author do when her kids fought
A.She asked them to run outside.
B.She asked them to say sorry to each other.
C.She asked them to spin the “punishment wheel”.
D.She helped the younger child argue with the older child.
(3). Why did the author use quotation marks (引号) for the word “punishments”
A.She wanted to show the importance of the word.
B.She wanted to show that the “punishments” were not real punishments.
C.She wanted the readers to guess the meaning of the word.
D.She was not sure if the word is correct.
(4). With the “punishments”, the author wanted to teach the kids that ________.
A.fighting was not a game
B.there were no real punishments in life
C.they should be nice to each other
D.fighting was bad for both sides
(5). What’s the best title for the passage
A.Brother and Sister
B.A Smart Mom
C.Stop Arguing
D.The Punishment Wheel

It was raining heavily as I was walking up the hill towards the station at six o’clock on a Saturday morning. At this early hour there wasn’t much traffic and there weren’t many people. Just as I was crossing the road near the top of the hill, a car came around the corner. It was traveling very fast. Suddenly it hit a lamp post(路灯柱) and turned over.
I ran to the car to help the driver at once. He was badly hurt and there was a lot of blood on his face. A young woman hurried into the station and phoned for an ambulance(救护车) while I took care of the driver. Many people came to see what happened. A policeman arrived 15 minutes later and asked me a lot of questions about the accident. After a while the ambulance arrived and the driver was sent to the hospital.
On Monday morning I went to the hospital to see the man. The doctor told me that he was much better, and he would leave the hospital after a few days’ rest.
When did the accident happen

What did the policeman do after he arrived

九、书面表达(范文)
My favorite thing from childhood is a teddy bear that I’ve had since I was five years old. My grandmother gave it to me as a birthday gift. I love it because it has always been my companion, especially when I felt lonely or scared. It’s soft, brown, and has a cute little bow on its ear. Even though I’m older now, I still keep it on my shelf as a reminder of happy memories and the love from my grandmother. It’s not just a toy; it’s a symbol of comfort and family.
