B 篇【答案】24. B 25. C 26. D 27. D
In the weeks and months following her husband’s cancer
diagnosis, Diana would search for “hiding” places where she could let the uncontrollable waterfalls
of tears flow from her eyes.
I could hardly catch my breath and the ugly crying started,” said
Diana. “The problem was, I was stuck in the coffee line at Dutch Brothers, one place where all the
workers are young, happy and jamming out to music. And there was no way out. I was literally
blocked in, so unless I wanted to back right up into the SUV behind me, I was about to be seen (“我
A. Causing a car crash B. Getting stuck in a long line C. Having
an emotional explosion 情绪爆发;D. Having a quarrel with a worker
The barista, who was making and serving coffee at the
window, handed Diana an iced coffee with a sweet and simple note on the top. “When I looked down
in the cup holder, I saw it. A pink straw, and the words ‘We love you’ written around it.”
The girl didn’
t know Diana’s pain or her story, but she knew she was hurting and couldn’t fix it. “She wanted me
to know I wasn’t alone and that whatever trial I was going through, there were people out there who
cared about me.”
When I looked down in the cup holder, I saw it. A pink straw,
and the words ‘We love you’ written around it.
The girl didn’t know Diana’s pain or her story, but she
knew she was hurting and couldn’t fix it. “She wanted me to know I wasn’t alone. And that whatever
trial I was going through, there were people out there who cared about me.”
现了“Small acts of kindness make a difference.

And after a decade-long analysis, he and his colleagues have figured
out how to use such feathers to create a living map of the mercury(汞)pollution that increasingly
根据第三段 “Many predators(捕食性动物), including penguins, have evolved
ways to get rid of mercury,( 许多捕食者,包括企鹅,已经进化出了去除汞的方法)”以及“which
They were surprised to find a correlation between the feathers’ levels
of mercury and of a carbon isotope(同位素)called carbon-13; the latter varies based on geographic
location and thus acts as an indicator of where the penguins are feeding or where their breeding
grounds are.(他们惊讶地发现,羽毛中的汞含量与一种叫做碳-13 的碳同位素之间存在相关性;
These findings suggest that penguins could serve as
bioindicators: living trackers of environmental pollutants. Rather than measuring the chemical itself
at a specific time and location, measuring penguin feathers’ mercury levels tracks its movement
through the food web. For instance, penguin species known to live near one another had varying
mercury and carbon-13 levels because of their different migration and feeding patterns. These data
could be modeled into a map-like database to help guide future projects on conservation and polar
G 37. E 38. D 39. C 40. F

much things cost.”(你也应该尽早向你的孩子介绍预算和花费。)和“Have them go to the store with
you or watch you pay the bills.”(让他们和你一起去商店,或者看着你付账单。)
39. 根据后文“Have them put some into a savings account to use for college or other pursuits.”(让他

Instagram”。
“an American girl” 是主语,“posted” 是
谓语动词,“a video” 是宾语,“on the platform” 是地点状语,“in search of Simon” 是目的状语。
was built on mutual respect”。
59. Despite/After 解析:“seven years of no contact and geographical separation” 表达的是一种让步
60. hoping 解析:“she decided to download the app” 是主句,“hoping” 在这里作伴随状语,表示
62. amazement 解析:“to one's + 名词” 是固定搭配,“to Katrina's amazement” 表示 “令 Katrina
64. academic 解析:这里需要一个形容词来修饰名词 “challenges”,“academic” 意为 “学术的;
66. known
67. As
68. environmental
69. but
70. relief

pass, shoot, opponent, score 等)和常见表达(如 “The game ended in a draw”.)。
谈(如“It was fun.”),需结合实例说明。
结尾可自然表达期待(如“Hope we can watch a match together someday!”);语言风格需符合朋
Dear Aden,
I hope this email finds you well. I can’t wait to share the friendly football match we had with
our sister school last week with you.
The match was held to strengthen bonds and promote teamwork. All players exchanged passes
and shot with great enthusiasm. We led by 2-1 at halftime, but the opponent made a strong comeback.
The game ended in a 3-3 draw.
I felt proud and excited throughout the match, and I was impressed by the sportsmanship and
friendly spirit from both teams. Hope we can watch a match together someday!
Best wishes,
Lihua
One possible version:
On the landing, Mom said, “Girls, we are not going to Disneyland today.” Lucy’s eyes widened
in disbelief. Our excitement gave way to disappointment. “But Mom, you just promised!” I
exclaimed, confusion clouding my thoughts. She looked at us seriously and explained, “I didn’t keep
my promise either, and now you know how it hurts. You need to learn that actions have
consequences. Disneyland can await, but learning to be responsible and trustworthy can’t.” Mom’s
words hit us hard, the white lie making us realize the gravity of our mistake. Instead of moving to
Disneyland, we had to go back to confront our responsibilities and make things right.
We knocked gently on Mrs. White’s door, heads down and hearts heavy. When she opened it,
we saw a hint of surprise in her eyes. We quickly apologized for not keeping our promise and for
letting her down. Mrs. White smiled warmly and forgave us, saying that she understood how easily
children could forget. Together, we worked hard to remove the weeds. Mom taught us a true lesson
which would stay with us forever. It was a lesson about the importance of keeping our word and the
impact our action could have on others. That day, we not only weeded Mrs. White’s garden but also
planted the seeds of responsibility and integrity within ourselves.

W: No, just the pizzas.
M: Would you like them to be picked up or delivered
W: I'll come and get them on my way.
M: No problem. Name, please
W: It's Helen. By the way, could you tell me roughly when they'll be ready
M: Sure. You have to wait your turn. That may need 5 minutes and the pizzas will need 25 minutes.
You can come in half an hour. They taste best when they're fresh. You'd better eat them within an
hour.
W: OK. Thanks.
Text 9.
W: Augus, do you know the color of the window frames in Paula's house
M: Of course. They are brown. I went together with Joseph to help her do the painting last Saturday.
That day you were busy with your report. Anyway, why do you ask that
W: I want to renew ours. What does her house look like
M: Her house looks very nice and modern. By the way, what are you going to do exactly
W: I'd like to repaint the walls and the window frames, and then rearrange the furniture.
M: But there is an important issue to note: After the painting is completed, our house needs to be
aired for a period of time, and we cannot live in it during that period.
W: It makes sense. Then what about the furniture
M: Just go with your idea.
W: Alright. In fact, I feel uneasy about not being able to get all these things done at once.
Text 10
W: For Christmas this year, a St. Louis man called Phillip Willett decided to use artificial
intelligence (AI) to recreate his late father’s voice as a present for his mother. Willett said that his
wife, Kassandra Willett, was the first person to give him the idea to use AI, something he had been
using in his professional work for clients. “At first, I didn’t really want to get into that. I thought it
was kind of strange,” Willett recalled his original hesitation. But the suggestion stuck with him and
he decided to search online to see if other people had done anything similar. Willett found “a whole
community” of people who had successfully tried using AI voice software to recreate the voices of
people they cared about. Soon after, Willett changed his mind and gave it a try using text-to-speech
software. “The actual first words that I put into the program were ‘Hi, honey’. I can’t tell you how
many times I’ve heard my father say that in my life,” Willett said. “When the program said it in his
voice, my eyes filled with tears. That’s when I was like, I’m doing this no matter what.” Willett not
only recreated his late father’s voice, but also put together a video with photos of him with his mom,
and combined them all into a video book. After it all came together, he presented the final product to
his mom. “What the AI was able to do with that video is really a summary of their life,” he said.

Being the strong wife and mother that she is, Diana Register often hid her deep pain and
suffering from those around her. In the weeks and months following her husband’s cancer diagnosis,
Diana would search for “hiding” places where she could let the uncontrollable waterfalls of tears
flow from her eyes.
“The storage room was a favorite. Then was the shower. But when I wasn’t home, it was the
parking lots that served as my hiding places,” she said. After her husband passed away, parking lots
were Diana’s safe haven (避风港) for pain and sorrow.
One day, as she was about to place her order in the Dutch Brothers coffee drive-thru
the wave of sadness hit her like a tidal wave in the middle of her conversation with a friend.
“I could hardly catch my breath and the ugly crying started,” said Diana. “The problem was, I
was stuck in the coffee line at Dutch Brothers, one place where all the workers are young, happy and
jamming out to music. And there was no way out. I was literally blocked in, so unless I wanted to
back right up into the SUV behind me, I was about to be seen for the mess I really was.”
The barista (咖啡师), who was making and serving coffee at the window, handed Diana an iced
coffee with a sweet and simple note on the top. “When I looked down in the cup holder, I saw it. A
pink straw, and the words ‘We love you’ written around it.”
The girl didn’t know Diana’s pain or her story, but she knew she was hurting and couldn’t fix it.
“She wanted me to know I wasn’t alone and that whatever trial I was going through, there were
people out there who cared about me.”
24. What would Diana do when she wanted to cry
A. Go out for a ride. B. Cry her eyes out totally alone.

In a groundbreaking announcement, Deepseek, a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI),
has revealed its latest innovation: an advanced AI system named “DeepMind 2.0.” This new
technology is designed to understand and respond to human emotions with accuracy never seen
before, marking a significant leap forward in the field of emotional AI. According to Deepseek’s
CEO, Dr. Emily Zhang, the system uses a combination of machine learning, natural language
processing, and advanced algorithms (算 法 ) to analyze facial expressions, voice tones, and even
subtle body language cues.
The potential applications of DeepMind 2.0 are wide. In healthcare, the system has already
been tested in several hospitals, where it assists doctors in identifying patients’ emotional states, such
as anxiety or depression, and provides tailored recommendations for care. In education, the
technology could help teachers better understand students’ emotional needs, creating a more
supportive learning environment. Additionally, in customer service, DeepMind 2.0 could enable
more understanding and effective interactions between businesses and their clients.
However, the announcement has sparked a heated debate among experts. While many praise
the potential benefits of the technology, others have raised serious concerns. Professor David Lee, a
leading expert in technology ethics, warns that the ability to analyze and respond to emotions could
be misused. “This technology could lead to privacy violations (侵犯), emotional control, or even
harmful treatment” he said. “For example, companies might use it to influence consumer behavior in
unethical (不道德的) ways, or governments could use it to monitor citizens’ emotions without their
permission.”
Despite these concerns, Deepseek remains optimistic about the future of DeepMind 2.0. The
company has emphasized its commitment to ethical AI development, including strict data privacy
measures and openness about the technology's use. Dr. Zhang stated, “We believe that the benefits of
this technology—improving mental health, enhancing education, and building better human
connections—are much greater than the risks.”
Deepseek plans to launch DeepMind 2.0 globally by the end of this year. They’ll start by using
it for medical care and teaching. The company is also working with policymakers and ethicists to
establish guidelines for the responsible use of emotional AI.
28. What is the primary function of DeepMind 2.0
A. To develop new algorithms for data analysis.
B. To analyze and respond to human emotions accurately.
C. To improve the speed of internet connections.
D. To replace human workers in various industries.
29. According to Dr. Emily Zhang, what makes DeepMind 2.0 unique
A. It can operate without any human input.
B. It focuses simply on customer service applications.
C. It can solve complex mathematical problems.
D. It uses advanced algorithms to analyze emotions.
30. What is one major concern raised by Professor David Lee
A. It could cause privacy violations or emotional control.
B. The technology might be too expensive for widespread use.
C. It may not be effective in educational settings.
D. It could cause job losses in the technology sector.
31. What steps has Deepseek taken to address ethical concerns
A. It has stopped the development of DeepMind 2.0.
B. It has decided to limit the use of the technology to healthcare.
C. It has adopted strict data privacy measures and openness.
D. It has partnered with companies to increase profits.

When Philip Sontag first visited Antarctica as a Ph. D. student, he brought back an unusual
souvenir: a huge bag of penguin feathers. And after a decade-long analysis, he and his colleagues
have figured out how to use such feathers to create a living map of the mercury (汞) pollution that
increasingly threatens Southern Hemisphere wildlife.
Mercury builds up as it moves up the food chain. Tracking mercury exposure is crucial for
keeping track of an ecosystem — but only sampling rocks, ice or soil for its presence tells little
about how much is actually entering the food web.
Many predators (捕食性动物), including penguins, have evolved ways to get rid of mercury,
which builds up in feathers that they regularly molt. Sontag hoped to use those feathers to determine
where penguins picked up the harmful chemicals. They were surprised to find a correlation between
the feathers’ levels of mercury and of a carbon isotope (同位素) called carbon-13; the latter varies
based on geographic location and thus acts as an indicator (指示器) of where the penguins are
feeding or where their breeding grounds are.
These findings suggest that penguins could serve as bioindicators: living trackers of
environmental pollutants. Rather than measuring the chemical itself at a specific time and location,
measuring penguin feathers’ mercury levels tracks its movement through the food web. For instance,
penguin species known to live near one another had varying mercury and carbon-13 levels because
of their different migration and feeding patterns. These data could be modeled into a map-like
database to help guide future projects on conservation and polar science research.
And how are the penguins doing with their current mercury levels “We don’t believe penguins
have been exposed to harmful levels as of yet,” Sontag says. “Yes, the penguins will be okay.”
32. What is the purpose of Sontag’s study
A. To track penguins’ migration routes.
B. To explore the food chain in Antarctica.
C. To compare carbon-13 levels across species.
D. To analyze mercury pollution in ecosystems.
33. What does the underlined word “molt” mean in Paragraph 3
A. Give out. B. Gather up. C. Drop off. D. Pick up.
34. What role does carbon-13 play in the study
A. It indicates penguins’ growth stages.
B. It helps locate penguins’ feeding sites.
C. It predicts penguins’ population changes.
D. It shows the amount of mercury in penguins.
35. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. The process of creating a map-like database.
B. The significance of penguins as bioindicators.
C. The features of penguins’ migration and feeding patterns.
D. The methods of measuring mercury levels in penguin feathers.

Helping Your Teen Understand the Value of Money
It seems that there are more things for teens to spend money on than ever. There are expensive
clothes, video games, MP3 players, and more. 36 That’s why it’s important to help them
understand the value of money.
Start teaching your children about money early. Starting around age 10, give them a few dollars
every week for them to spend however they want. 37 But let them choose what they want to
do. Don’t set limits on what they can spend it on, and don’t continually buy them things they want.
They’ll soon learn that if they spend all their money as soon as they get it, they won’t be able to
afford more expensive things they want.
You should also start early introducing your children to budgets (预算) and how much things
cost. Have them go to the store with you or watch you pay the bills. 38
As your child gets older, about 13 or 14, increase their pocket money as you increase their
responsibility. Once they’re more responsible, give them a budget for something bigger like clothes
and make them stick to it.
Eventually, your child will probably get a job. 39 Have them put some into a savings
account to use for college or other pursuits. Let them use the rest as mad money to spend however
they want. If you’re worried about what they’re buying, open them a checking account you can
monitor.
40 It takes many small steps. Remember that they will probably mess up along the way,
but mistakes are how they learn.
A. Help them choose a well-paid job.
B. And you can also encourage them to pay the bills.
C. Take this opportunity to teach them about savings.
D. Soon they’ll realize how much some things really cost.
E. Make the pocket money dependent on doing housework.
F. Teaching your child the value of money will not happen overnight.
G. If you aren’t made of money, it’s hard to give your kids everything they want.

When I was seven, my sister Lucy, who was four, and I were eager to be independent and earn
some money to show our parents that we were capable beyond our years. The only idea I could come
up with was to offer our services as gardeners, going door to door to propose weeding neighbors’
gardens for 2 dollars each.
Our proposal was fair, yet unexpectedly, only Mrs. White, living three blocks from our house,
accepted the offer. Maybe that was because no one would take children’s words seriously. We agreed
on the weeding at 8:00 the next morning. Having the first client, Lucy and I couldn’t contain
ourselves and felt as if we had achieved a monumental task, hearts swelling with pride. We were
going to be gardeners! But the excitement of the moment was fleeting, and the next day, the
attraction of play and the forgetfulness of childhood overtook us. We forgot about our commitment.
Concerned about our absence, Mrs. White contacted our mother. As we walked into the kitchen
through the back door at 11:00 a. m. , Mom had just hung up the phone. She asked about our little
gardening business. Surprisingly, she wasn’t angry, instead, she found our initiative amusing. She
explained that Mrs. White had called her, expressing disappointment over our broken promise. Faced
with the mistake, we admitted our oversight and promised to make a sincere apology sometime.
Instead of criticizing us, Mom busied herself with lunch preparations as if nothing had happened. We
did feel a touch of guilt, but it was quickly overshadowed by what Mom said next.
As we mouthed on sandwiches, Mom casually asked, “Would you was like to go to Disneyland
this afternoon ” We sprang into action, bathing and dressing, which was like getting ready for a
birthday party. We rushed outside, not wanting to miss the bus that would take us downtown. The
