In February 2025, all primary and secondary schools in Hainan extended the breaks between classes from 10 to 15 minutes. This policy ensures that students have more activity time every day.
To help children better enjoy break-time activities, many schools in Hainan are working hard. Some schools have set up activity corners in the hallways, where students can play board games such as chess and checkers. Others encourage outdoor activities, for example, students can skip rope, play badminton, or run on the playground. In Sanya Tianya District Binglang Primary School, students like the popular game “bamboo dancing” best. Teachers say this break helps students relax, stay healthy, and make friends.
As the break-time is longer, it is also important to make sure everyone is safe. Physical education (PE) teachers keep an eye on students playing in the playground. “Sometimes the playground can be wet in the morning, so we tell the students to do more upper body exercises to avoid running and slipping.” said one PE teacher.
This new break policy in Hainan has been well-received. Students are happier. “I used to feel sleepy in afternoon classes, but now I’m more energetic.” said Zhang Boren, a student from No.1 Primary School, “We have more time to do outdoor activities, which is refreshing and relaxing.” Parents and teachers also recognize the advantages. They believe it is beneficial for students’ physical and mental health. As Hainan continues to improve its education, these 15-minute breaks are becoming an important part of a healthier and more enjoyable school life.
26. How long are the class breaks in Hainan now
A. 10 minutes. B. 15 minutes. C. 25 minutes.
27 How does the writer support his idea in Paragraph 2
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples. C. By telling stories.
28. The underlined word “refreshing” may mean something that ________.
A. makes you feel new and active.
B. makes you feel worried.
C. makes you feel tired.
29. Why do parents and teachers think the new policy is good
A. Because it helps students improve their grades.
B. Because it makes the school more beautiful.
C. Because it is beneficial for students’ physical and mental health.
30. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To encourage students to spend more time outdoors.
B. To introduce a new policy about longer breaks.
C. To discuss the importance of safety in school activities.

Weekends, air conditioners (空调), takeouts… are all common things for modern people. Have you ever wondered if ancient people enjoyed the same lifestyles Let’s take a look.
No weekends
In ancient China, there were no weekends because people did not use a weekly calendar. But they could still relax after work. During the Han Dynasty, officials (官员) took one day off every five days. During the Tang Dynasty, officials worked for 10 days and rested for one day. They usually bathed and washed their hair on their day off, which was called xiumu. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, people also took days off for the emperor’s birthday and they took a few days off during the Spring Festival.
Smart ways of staying cool
In ancient times people had their own wisdom to get through the hot summer. In the Zhou Dynasty, workers collected ice blocks (冰块) in winter and stored them in an icehouse. When summer came, people could use the ice blocks to make their rooms cooler. The “bingjian (冰鉴)” was a kind of ancient fridge. It was a big box made of wood or metal filled with ice. People put drinks inside and the drinks would become colder over time. Ancient people also used reeds (芦苇) or bamboo to make bed mats (垫子) to keep cool.
冰鉴
Takeouts—not a new thing
There was takeout as far back as the Song Dynasty. Restaurant waiters would go out into the streets and shout out which dishes could be ordered that day. People would then place an order. Later, takeout workers would bring food to their homes. In the famous Song Dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival, a takeout worker can be seen on a delivery with food in hand. People at the time even had special meal boxes to keep dishes warm.
31. Why were there no weekends in ancient times
A. Because the emperors didn’t allow their people to have a rest.
B. Because ancient people wanted to make more money.
C. Because ancient people didn’t use a weekly calendar.
32. What did officials do during xiumu in the first piece of news
A. Take a bath B. Visit their parents C. Go on a picnic
33. How many ways are mentioned to stay cool in ancient China in the passage
A. One. B. Two. C. Three.
34. What is the man probably doing in the third picture
A. Sending takeouts B. Ordering the dishes C. Painting the river
35. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Ancient people used bed mats made of silk to stay cool.
B. Along the River During the Qingming Festival was painted in Song Dynasty.
C. Modern people still have the same lifestyles as ancient people.

Huang Xuhua, known as the “Father of China’s Nuclear Submarines (核潜艇)”, passed away in Wuhan on February 6th, 2025, at the age of 99.
Huang was born in Guangdong Province in 1926. As a child, he dreamed of studying medicine to save lives, influenced by his parents, who were both doctors. However, the chaos (混乱) of war in his middle school years made him decide to study science and engineering to make his country strong.
In 1945, Huang went to study shipbuilding at National Jiaotong University. After graduating, he became a shipbuilding engineer. In the late 1950s, China decided to build its own nuclear submarines, and Huang volunteered to join the secret research team. To protect the project, he cut off contact with the outside world and didn’t return home for 30 years. His family didn’t know what he was doing during that time.
Huang and his team faced many difficulties, for example, designing a nuclear reactor was really hard. They couldn’t get help from foreign experts, so they could only depend on their own research. They used simple tools like abacuses and slide rules to do calculations and experiments. But they overcame the difficulties and achieved breakthroughs in seven key technologies.
On December 26th, 1970, China’s first nuclear submarine, the “Long March-1” was successfully launched. It made China one of the few countries that had this technology. Huang Xuhua didn’t stop after this big success. He went on to help with the development of submarine technology. His hard work and devotion brought him many honors, including the “Medal of the Republic” in 2019.
Today, he is remembered not just as a scientist, but as a hero who devoted his life to China’s strength. We, especially the young people should learn from his spirit. Let’s take on the responsibility, face challenges bravely, and work hard to make China stronger. In this way, his spirit will live on forever.

第四部分 写作(满分20分)
【49题答案】
【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m so glad to receive your e-mail. Here are my answers to your questions.
To keep healthy, I usually exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. For diet, I try to eat balanced meals with vegetables, fruits, and proteins. For example, I often have eggs and milk for breakfast. Also, I make sure to sleep for 8 hours each night to stay energetic.
When I feel stressed, I listen to music or talk to my close friends. Sometimes, I keep a diary to organize my thoughts. Taking deep breaths also helps me calm down quickly.
As teenagers, it is important to take good care of ourselves. First, we should have a regular schedule for sleep and meals, which is good for us teenagers. Second, we can develop hobbies we enjoy to relax, like sports or art. Last but not least, if we have some problems that we can’t work out, we can ask for help—it’s okay to talk to family, teachers or friends.
I hope my reply will be helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
