Because it's fresh. People can drink it and use it for farming, and washing.
Because it gives life when it provides fresh water, but it can also be dangerous when it floods.
3 What are the living conditions like in the desert
The desert is very hot during the day and very cold at night. There is little rain, so it is hard to live there.
4 Why do people call the earth the "Blue Planet"
The Earth is called the "Blue Planet" because the ocean covers more than two-thirds of the earth’s surface.
5 What colours do forests usually wear in summer and autumn
In summer, forests are usually green, and in autumn, they are usually golden brown.
What writing skills does the writer use
Metaphor (隐喻): It compares two things by saying one is like the other.
Personification: Personification is to give human qualities to non-human things like objects, animals and ideas. It helps make the writing more vivid and interesting. It also helps draw readers' attention.
The writer describes the four landscapes in the first person and give human characteristics or qualities to them.
Contrast (对比): It shows how two things are different.

e.g. In some towns, there is no fresh water.

词语辨析：be made of和 be made from 都表示“由……制成”，但be made of 强调通过产品能看出其由什么原材料制成；be made from强调通过成品一般不能看出其由什么原材料制成。
5. Nobody wants to live in such difficult conditions, but a few plants and animals can survive. 没有人愿意生活在如此困难的环境中，但是有一些植物和动物能够生存下来。
e.g. The workers are asking for better working conditions.

Plants can't grow well under such dry conditions.

There are few trees on the road.

辨析：a few和few都可以修饰可数名词的复数形式，但 a few 表示肯定意义，意为“一些；几个”，few表示否定意义，意为“很少；不多”。
e.g. We need food and water to survive.

Some animals can survive in the desert.

e.g. The forest is home to many cute animals.
