(2025·广西河池·一模)①Recently, China is taking important steps to help people manage their weight and fight against obesity (肥胖). As we know, obesity can lead to serious health problems such as diabetes (糖尿病) and heart diseases.
②What is obesity Firstly, we need to know about BMI, short for Body Mass Index (体重指数). For adults, a healthy BMI falls between 18.5 and 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are considered overweight; if it is 28 or higher, that means you have the problem of obesity.
③Here is how you can calculate (计算) your BMI: divide your weight in kilos twice by your height in metres. For example, if a girl weighs 64 kilos, and she is 1.62 metres tall, then her BMI is 64 divided by 1.62 and then divided by 1.62 again, which is about 24.39. So you see, weight is the key to your BMI.
④Then, how can we manage our weight Eating right plays a key part, and exercise matters just as much! Eat healthy food like brown rice, fresh vegetables and fish or chicken. Stay away from fried foods and sugary snacks. Do exercise like walking, cycling or dancing for 150 to 300 minutes each week. And make sure to stand up and exercise for 3 to 5 minutes every hour while you need to sit for a long time.
⑤Let’s take action now. Simply start with small changes, like getting off the sofa or taking the stairs instead of the lift. With these steps, everyone can build a healthier future.

You’re excited, but it seems that something goes wrong. You don’t remember whether you have entered a competition or not. So should you leave the link alone or see what’s inside
You are right to think twice before you click that link! That’s because some text messages are actually “smishing (短信诈骗)”, which is designed to take money away from you. But with a little knowledge, you’ll be able to recognize it easily.

They may also try to get you to download some kind of app. But that app is likely to contain malware, a computer program that will do harm to your mobile phone. Not only that, but some malware can also steal your information and take control of your mobile phone.
It’s reported that over 3.5 million smishing texts are sent out every day. But the cheats have no power over you unless they can get you to trust them. Some cheats even do research on victims (受骗者) so that they can sound more real.
If you check your message and can’t make sure whether it’s safe, ask yourself these questions: Was I expecting this message Is there any way for me to find out who the sender is Don’t join the millions of people who lose big from smishing every year. Stop and think before you click that link.

(2025·广西南宁·二模)Nowadays, we can receive deliveries (递送物) in different ways, such as by a drone (无人机) or by mail. For customers of Shake Shack, a fast-food restaurant in Los Angeles, their hamburgers may be sent by a robot instead of a deliveryman.
The fast-food restaurant sells hamburgers, chips and more. When ordering a meal from Shake Shack through the Uber Eats app, customers can choose to have their food delivered by a robot. The robot can drive itself from the restaurant to their homes. Customers can then track the robot through their phones. They can see its journey from the restaurant to their addresses.
The robot is invented by Serve Robotics. It is around 1 meter tall and looks like a box on four wheels, with two lights at the front which look like eyes. According to reports, the robot can carry up to 23 kilograms at a top speed of 11 km per hour and they only travel on sidewalks. Food orders are put into a safe space that can only be opened by the customers with the Uber Eats app when the robot arrives at their homes.
Since 2022, the robots have already made thousands of deliveries for Uber Eats in Los Angeles. However. there can be problems. Although Serve Robotics says that its robots finish their deliveries over 99% of the time, some online videos show that people are breaking the robots and taking away what’s inside them. The robots can also have problems traveling on roads that are broken or not smooth, and some people are worried they might block (堵塞) sidewalks. (2025·广西贵港·一模)Ants have the ability to smell out cancerous cells (癌细胞) in humans, which has been discovered by a new study, suggesting that they could be used to find cancer in the future. Researchers from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) discovered that some ants have a well-developed sense of smell. “However, more tests must be carried out before they could be used in hospitals,” the team said.
The scientists did tests with 36 ants smelling cells in the lab. First, they let the ants smell some cancerous human cells. Every time the ants smelt cancerous cells, they were given with sugar. In the second step, the ants were put into two different smells. One was a new smell of healthy cells and the second was still the smell of the cancerous cells. Once the ants found the cancerous cells successfully, the researchers made them smell different cancerous cells. As such, the scientists found that ants could discriminate between cancerous and healthy cells and between two cancerous cells.
This isn’t the first time that scientists have used the animals’ sense of smell to find cancerous cells.
“Dogs are good at finding something with their noses. However, training dogs to do so requires several months to a year. On the other hand, insects can be easily raised, they are inexpensive, and hundreds of them can be trained with fewer times,” the researchers pointed out.
“This study shows that ants are able to learn very quickly. The method can be used for other tasks including finding danger or other diseases (疾病),” the researchers said.

(2025·广西崇左·一模)A new rubbish sorting system (垃圾分类系统) has been put into use in Fangchengyuan Community in Beijing. Local people not only sort their rubbish, but also put QR codes (二维码) on it.
“When the rubbish is collected and the codes are seen, I will get reward points to exchange for small gifts and even some money,” one of the local people told reporters. “It’s really creative and encouraging.”
This smart system has been carried out in 350 communities in Beijing. The capital of China has joined a list of cities in the country that take action to support rubbish sorting. For example, Shenzhen and Shanghai have made laws to punish people and organizations for not sorting rubbish correctly.
China produces quite a lot of rubbish every year. Much of the rubbish is buried (填埋) in soil or burned without being sorted. Landfills (填埋场) take up a lot of land and have a risk of polluting the soil and water nearby. And burning rubbish can produce harmful gases. Through rubbish sorting, we can reduce the use of landfills and air pollution.
What’s more, rubbish sorting saves resources, which could bring economic benefits (经济利益). For example, a ton of waste paper can be reused to make about 850 kg of paper, saving 17 trees and 50 percent of water. Because of their benefits, some countries have developed successful sorting systems.

②It may take a long time to bring a wildfire under control. And some wildfires are unstoppable. They usually happen in areas where few people live. They are most common in wooded areas in the US, Canada and Australia. They are also known as forest fires or grass fires, or as bush fires in Australia.
③Lightnings and volcanoes (火山) can cause wildfires. However, 90 percent of wildfires are caused by humans, according to the US National Park Service. Burning campfires and rubbish, cigarette butts (烟头) and acts of arson can easily cause wildfires. Dry and hot weather, as well as winds, creates perfect wildfire conditions. They help wildfires grow quickly and last for weeks.
④Wildfires can burn at 900℃ and reach heights of more than 50 meters. It can move at speeds of up to 23 kilometers an hour, burning everything like trees, brush, homes and even people. The fires are also dangerous to animals because they have no place to hide. They have to leave their trees and find water somewhere else.

(2025·广西来宾·一模)The Taklimakan Desert (塔克拉玛干沙漠), which is in the northwest part of China, is the biggest desert in our country. It has been a big worry because it’s really large, about 337, 600 square kilometers and there are a lot of sandstorms that come from it. These sandstorms are very bad for the nature and the way people live around it. So, people started a big project to put a green belt (带) around the desert.
By the end of 2023, a large part of a 2,761-kilometer-long green belt had already been made around the desert. In 2024, the last 285 kilometers, mostly in the south of the desert where the sandstorms are super bad, were finished. Now the whole Taklimakan Desert has a green belt all around it. This Project has to do with six counties (县) in three parts of Xinjiang.
The building of this green belt used many different scientific ways. For example, the China Railway Construction Development Group (中铁建发展集团) made ingredients of the sand-stopping system to stop the sand. This system has three main things. There are tall things to stop the sand, squares made of straw (草方格) and wide lines of trees. These things work together well to stop the desert from getting bigger.
China’s largest desert fully encircled (环绕) with green belt. When the green belt around the desert was successfully finished, it brought a lot of good things. First, it made the nature around the desert better. There are fewer and not as strong sandstorms now. Second, it kept the farming near the desert safe. Also, the places where people live in cities and in the countryside are nicer. Because there are fewer sandstorms, there is less harm to the things like roads and buildings, and more people come to visit. So, the local people can make more money from having visitors. This project shows how much China wants to stop the desert from getting worse and make the nature better.

What type of shark is the slowest The slowest shark in the world is the Greenland shark. It lives in very cold waters near the Arctic Ocean (北冰洋) and the North Atlantic Ocean (北大西洋). In these icy waters, the Greenland shark swims only about one mile per hour. That is slower than many human swimmers! The fastest shark, the short fin mako shark, can swim up to 45 miles per hour.
Why is the Greenland shark so slow Scientists think that it all has to do with their cold water home. When fish are in cold water, their bodies slow down. Their bodies become cold and their muscles (肌肉) cannot work as well. They cannot move as fast as they can in warm water. Human beings do not experience this because our bodies stay warm even in cold weather.
The Greenland shark is also the one that lives the longest. In fact, Greenland sharks don’t even become full adults until they are about 150 years old! Scientists have learned that they live about 500 years.
How can Greenland sharks live so long These sharks eat small amounts (数量) of food for their size. A Greenland shark weighing 500 pounds would need less than 7 ounces (盎司) every day! That is less than half a pound of food. They need small amounts of food because they use up energy very slowly. The way we use up energy from food is called metabolism (新陈代谢) . Greenland sharks have a very slow metabolism. Animals with slow metabolisms usually live longer.
