①More and more people believe that technologies are great for learning. Today teaching tools such as PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) are used in a lot of courses, including language, history and science.
②Many teachers are supporters of using PDA in language learning. They say that students now have a lot more time for discussion in the classroom. Instead of spending valuable class time listening to texts or watching teaching videos, they can do this on their own and come to class prepared for discussion.
③The teachers also say that PDA allows students to learn without their teachers’ help. Some students might listen to a dialogue only once and understand it, so they can save time for doing other things. Other students, however, might need to listen to the same dialogue again and again to understand it. Using PDA is especially helpful to students who are learning a language at different paces.
④The students who are using the new tool in some courses are also happy. They believe that using PDA is a more enjoyable way to learn. The class has become much more interesting. By using PDA, they can pay more attention to the material and learn more. Teaching notes are stored in their PDAs and easy to find.
⑤Many parents complain that technologies such as PDA are doing harm to students. They worry that students might use PDA to download teaching notes and use them to cheat during exams. If a student spends more time watching videos on an PDA, he will have fewer chances to have face-to-face communication with others.

When I entered high school, there were many things that worried me. I felt homesick and couldn’t study well, which resulted in low marks as well as low self-esteem (自尊心). I didn’t know what to do so I just followed others.
One day, all students were called to the school playground. We were asked to meet an education expert for personality development. All of us were waiting for him when we saw a thin man and the headmaster. He looked confident, with a smile on his face. He introduced himself to us and started his work. Most of it was interactive (互动的) lessons with students. Then he said, “Now I need 20 students, who want to take a talent test and consider them to be the best in the world.” We all wanted to attend, so all of us raised our hands in unison.

When finishing it, write your name on the paper and give it to me.” When he said “Start”, all the students wrote quickly. Between their funny actions and our loud laughter, somehow the competition was over. At last, he told us the name of the winner ... NOBODY. We all were surprised, and silence fell upon us. He said between the first instruction and the first question, there was another line which said, “Read all the questions carefully and answer ONLY THE 10TH QUESTION.” Needless to say, all the students felt embarrassed.

Watermelons are a favorite fruit, especially in the hot summer months. They are not only delicious but also fun to eat. With the rise of online shopping, more people are buying watermelons on the Internet. This trend has led to a special job: the watermelon quality tester.
Lee, a 32-year-old man, is busy during the summer. He works as a quality checker for a group of farmers who grow watermelons. Every day, he checks thousands of watermelons to make sure they are perfect before they are sent to warehouses from where they will be sold online. To check a watermelon, Lee holds it near his ear and taps it gently with his fingers. By listening to the sound, he can tell if the watermelon is ripe (成熟) or ready to be eaten.
The practice of checking watermelons by tapping on them is common in many countries, especially in China, where it is seen as a way to find the best fruit. Many people give the watermelon a little tap before buying it to make sure they are getting a good one. Some even do this just to get a better price, pretending to know what the different sounds mean.
As more people shop for fruits online, there has been an increasing need of experts like Lee who can judge the quality of fruits with their hands. Their job is to make sure that each watermelon chosen for online sales is similar in size and quality.
Lee, who used to be a successful soccer player, now describes himself as a “goalkeeper for watermelons”. He gave up soccer about four years ago and learned about melon-knocking as a new career and decided to learn from an experienced farmer.
After a year’s training and practice, he became skilled enough to work independently as a quality checker. “It is a tough job. There are just no shortcuts,” he said. During his learning period, he often had to cut open watermelons to check if his judgements of their ripeness were correct.
37.What has led to the increasing need for watermelon quality testers
A.A rise in online watermelon sales. B.The popularity of watermelons.
C.An increase in watermelon prices. D.The big harvest of watermelons.
38.What can we learn about Lee from the passage
A.He grows watermelons of good quality. B.He has become a skillful quality checker now.
C.He regretted giving up his career as a soccer player. D.He can tell if a watermelon is ripe by its appearance.
39.What can we learn from Lee’s words in the last paragraph
A.Seeing is believing. B.Every man has his value.
C.Great efforts and practice matter. D.Excellence can be found in any career.
40.In which section of the magazine would you probably read this passage
A.Food and Fitness. B.Science and Technology.
C.Online Business. D.Career Choices.

42.根据后文“For example, stop the use of one-off objects; give unwanted things to others and so on.”
43.根据前文“Yu Yuan, 27, is attracted by this idea. She and her boyfriend used to buy something unwanted until she saw a video about ‘zero-waste’.”
44.根据前文“She had a deep impression.” 后文提到“They tried to follow the six rules.”,因此此处应描述她和男友开始尝试零废弃生活。
45.根据前文“‘It is not something that can happen overnight.’ said Yu. ‘I hope more people will change their lifestyle after visiting our shop because zero-waste life is just around us at our fingertips.’” 故选A。

52. had/showed interest in
show/have interest in“对……感兴趣”;由于时间状语是“last year”,需用一般过去时。故填had/showed;interest;in。
53. has achieved
故填has;achieved。
54. if/whether she would like
【详解】if/whether“是否”,引导宾语从句,从句用陈述句语序,此处指的是“妈妈”,应用she指代,作从句主语,would like to do sth“想要做某事”,故填if/whether;she;would;like。
