“Hey, Ben, let’s go and ride to the park,” called Dion. He and Thomas were on their bikes and wanted Ben to come with them. Ben shook his head sadly. All of his friends had bikes, but he did not.
When he asked his mom for a bike, his mom said, “Not yet, Ben.” She told him he would have to wait until his birthday. Ben did not want to wait. He felt sad.
One day, Ben went to the park near his house. When he got there, he found there were no other kids to play with—the park was empty. Suddenly, he noticed a cardboard box in the corner of the park. Curiously, he walked over and discovered a lot of discarded（丢弃的）bike parts inside.
Ben’s eyes lit up. He began searching through the box, hoping to find something usable. He found some chains, a handlebar, and some tires. Excitedly, he thought, "I can build a bike myself!"
