The Most Scenic Villages of Italy
Manarola
Manarola is among the oldest and most popular towns in the Ligurian Cinque Terre coastal region. Its12th-century houses in different colors look over the tiny bay from the top of the rocky cliff. You can walk down to the bay to enjoy the closer view, and even enjoy a host of recreational activities such as boating or swimming. Follow the footpath along the near cliff west from the bay and you' ll find the best viewpoint overlooking the whole town—— magical both by day and night.
Portofino
This fishing village dates to Ancient Roman times and its name means the“Port of Dolphins”.Nowadays, its bay area is dotted with rows of fishing boats gently floating over the calm waves, but it remains a scenic and quiet place to be. Overlooking the small bay is a charming cobbled square lined with small cafés and restaurants, and the Chiesa di San Martino is high up on the green hillside.
Matera
Matera stands out as a medieval(中世纪的)“stone city”— nicknamed“Sassi”(‘stones’ in Italian). It's picturesque from afar, with a series of stone buildings carved out of the rocky mountain. From up close,as you walk along the stone paths and stairways, you may come across stone towers— they' re actually chimneys of houses underneath your feet! While beautiful, this is a barren city. Living conditions were poor and it was finally evacuated in 1952.
Pitigliano
Set on top of a stony cliff in Italy's Tuscany region, the medieval town of Pitigliano is an amazing sight. Most of its buildings and towers were built using the same rock from the cliff. Pitigliano has a longstanding Jewish community, and among its main sights are a series of ancient caves carved into the cliffside.
21. What can we know about Manarola
A. It is best to view the town at night. B. It offers few recreational activities.
C. It is the oldest and most popular town. D. It has colorful houses on a rocky cliff.
22. What can visitors do in Portofino
A. Experience lively nightlife at the bars. B. Visit ancient Roman ruins near the port.
C. Enjoy the view of fishing boats in the bay. D. Explore the crowded markets in the square.
23. What do Matera and Pitigliano have in common
A. Both were founded as religious centers. B. Both were empty for poor living conditions.
C. Both feature historic stone architecture. D. Both attract visitors mainly for ancient caves.
B
Horizons are strange. They define the scope(范围) of what we can see in the distance, but they are also always personal: Walk 10 miles to the west and your horizon line moves 10 miles to the west with you.
Remarkably, this local, personal character of horizons also extends to black holes, the most mysterious objects in the universe. Going beyond that horizon towards a new understanding of space, time and black holes is the principal goal of physicist Carlo Rovelli's wonderful new book White Holes.
“What happens at the center of a Black Hole ” It's the question that drives this book. Rovelli is unique among modern scientists who write for popular audiences in his ability to grasp the purest essence of his science with both precision and beauty. White Holes, like Rovelli's other works, is remarkably short— less than 200 pages. But the clarity of his explanations is unmatched. As a scientist who is also a popularizer,I often find myself amazed at his passages.
The science question at the heart of Rovelli's new book comes from his own research into the intersection of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics (量子力学). His answer to the question“What happens ” is that black holes eventually become white holes where everything that fell into“event horizon” emerges again. To demonstrate how this is possible, Rovelli takes the reader on a fascinating exploration of what a horizon means for time. As he writes“… if we approach the‘event horizon’ and go beyond it, our watches do not slow and nothing strange happens to the space around us,just as nothing unusual happens to a shi p when it crosses the line of the horizon and disappears from our view.”
I won't spoil the ending by telling you what Rovelli says happens when black holes turn into white holes. I will, however, tell you that taking the journey with Rovelli is more than worth the price of the book.
24. Why does the author illustrate“horizons” in paragraph 1
A. To introduce the topic. B. To define a difficult term.
C. To present a problem. D. To compare different views.
25. What is Rovelli's new book aimed at
A. Challenging existing black hole theories. B. Providing a new insight into black holes.
C. Offering tools for observing black holes. D. Teaching Einstein's Theory of Relativity.
26. What is the author's main praise for Rovelli's new book
A. Its detailed scientific analysis. B. Its clear and accurate explanations.
C. Its impressive lengthy discussion. D. Its vivid and creative imagination.
27. According to Rovelli, what happens when crossing the“event horizon”
A. Everything falls inwards rapidly. B. Matter begins to explode violently.
C. No noticeable changes are observed. D. A ship disappears due to extreme gravity.

From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are turning to DeepSeek to address different personal issues. They describe sharing their thoughts and receiving helpful feedback from the popular chatbot. As a rising trend on social media,AI therapy (疗法) is changing the way people seek mental health support. But can AI truly replace a human therapist
Globally,45 percent of people who needed mental health care in 2024 did not receive it, with barriers including cost and a lack of providers, according to Huntington Psychological Services. Daniel Lowd, an associate professor at the University of Oregon, believes AI could help solve the lack of therapy services.“If people can find some support and perspective by talking to ChatGPT or chatbot Claude, then I think that's wonderful,” Lowd told Newsweek.
Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people's needs for emotional support to some extent. By using basic knowledge of psychotherapy, DeepSeek can help with minor mental issues through comforting responses, Li told Shanghai Observer.
However, he points out that AI cannot completely replace professionals due to the human touch that is important for therapeutic services. Therapists develop a deeper understanding of people's emotions and needs through communication, which allows them to offer more tailored treatment plans, ShanghaiObserver reported.
The use of AI in psychotherapy also raises concerns over the reliability of responses. “AI chatbots will respond as therapists if asked, without any of the inspection, training or responsibility of a human counselor or even a specialized and tested piece of software,” Richard Lachman, an associate professor atToronto Metropolitan University, told Newsweek.
Experts believe the key to effective AI therapy lies in proper government regulation. Wysa, for example, is a mental health app that offers therapeutic conversations with an AI chatbot. In 2022, it worked with the UK's National Health Service, following a list of strict standards. As AI becomes more a part of our lives, understanding its effects on human psychology means finding a balance between what's helpful and what's dangerous.
28. How could AI help us according to Daniel Lowd
A. By improving the quality of therapy. B. By reducing the cost of therapy.
C. By providing more psychological aids. D. By curing human of mental issues.
29. What is Li Yong's attitude towards AI therapy
A. Pessimistic. B. Optimistic.
C. Objective. D. Ambiguous.
30. Why is a human counselor mentioned in paragraph 5
A. To question the reliability of AI therapy.
B. To praise human's insight into mental issues.
C. To prove the necessity of professional training.
D. To stress the responsibility of human therapists.
31. What does the example in the last paragraph show us
A. The need for suitable state control.
B. The importance of developing more advanced AI.
C. The dangerous effects of AI on human psychology.
D. The popularization of AI across nations.

In 2024, the term“brain rot” gained popularity on social media as it reflected concerns about the overconsumption of low-quality online content. The widespread use of the term highlighted the harmful effects of Internet addiction, driving a travel trend known as“digital detox”.
In fact, digital detox isn't a new concept. Brown University defines it as a set period during which people avoid using electronic devices that have become a big part of daily life. Due to growing interest in taking a break from technology while on vacation, tour operators are now offering digital detox trips, where travelers choose an Internet-free environment. When such a trip begins, travelers lock their devices in a storage box and only get them back at the end.
Travelers who have joined digital detox trips confirm the various benefits of going phone-free.“Without that distraction, the experience feels so much richer because you' re just absorbed in it,”Tara Cappel, founder of travel company FTLO Travel, told Travel + Leisure Magazine. However, she acknowledges that tech-free travel hasn't yet become popular, as many people are still concerned about shutting off their devices completely.
That concern makes sense. In an age where life and technology are more connected than ever, a full digital detox may not be realistic for most people. “Technology is very much a part of us now. We bank with an app, read restaurant menus on phones and even sweat with exercise instructors through a screen,”consultant Emily Cherkin told the BBC. While a digital detox is meant to reduce stress, shutting down devices may actually cause more anxiety due to our close relationship with technology.
Rather than avoiding phones altogether, experts suggest a more realistic way to address Internet addiction.Sina Joneidy, a senior teacher at Teesside University, UK, advocates practicing digital awareness. “I make sure my use of technology is purposeful,” he told the BBC. For those who can't completely step away from screens, using screen-time tracking apps may help encourage more mindful phone habits. Ultimately, our focus should be on improving our long-term relationship with technology rather than depending on the digital detox industry as a short-term solution.
32. What does the underlined term“digital detox” in paragraph 1 refer to
A. A trend of using technology more efficiently.
B. A practice of keeping away from digital devices.
C. A method of improving the quality of online content.
D. A way to reduce the anxiety of using electronic devices.
33. What can we learn about digital detox according to paragraph 4
A. It can bring about worry.
B. It makes sense for most people.
C. It is unnecessary in modern life.
D. It is the best way to reduce pressure.
34. What do experts think is a more practical way to deal with Internet addiction
A. Avoiding phones altogether.
B. Upgrading time tracing tools.
C. Taking more digital detox trips.
D. Being more intentional with technology.
35. Which of the following can be the suitable title of the text
A. Suffer from“Brain Rot” B. Keep Track of Our Screen Time
C. Benefit from Digital Detox D. Set Free from Internet Addiction

Strategies to Make Reading a Novel Easy
As there are important keys to reading any type of literary genre (体裁), reading a novel is no different. Consider these tips for reading a novel effectively.
●Read for comprehension
36 . As fundamental as that seems to education, don't ignore it. It's easy to get mentally distracted, breeze through a page or two, and suddenly find yourself in a new scene with no idea how you got there. If you' re lost, it's a good idea to back up and figure out what you' re reading. An even better idea when reading a novel is to comprehend it as you go. Here's a quick tip on that. 37 . It tends to help you stay more engaged as you read.
●Pay attention to repetition
Novelists generally tend to be highly focused on details when writing. When they repeat something, they mean to. 38 . Repetition can take a thousand forms, like certain settings or characters. If something feels familiar when you' re reading, pay attention— the author wants to make a point.
● 39
Plot, setting, characters, foreshadowing, imagery, etc. They' re highly important. We understand that knowing all these can be somewhat less-than-fun. But they' re the building blocks upon which novelists make their points. Big ideas come in story format, so knowing how story elements work together is vital.
●Watch for interpretations
Sometimes novelists make it easy for you: they interpret a passage for you. When you come across any interpretation by an author, it's time to take notes. If you want to know how to read a novel effectively and you miss this, it will be easy to misinterpret the entire book. Don't miss the author's own interpretations. 40 .
A. Read with themes in mind
B. Know your literary elements
C. When certain things show up again, be mindful
D. You can use an index card to cover the part you' ve read
E. Honestly, they matter much more than mine or yours do
F. Understanding is always the goal when we read anything
G. Another method is to write down your own short summary

第二节 (满分25分)

There is no failure except in no longer trying. It was my brother John, a theater king, who insisted Itry out for the musical. “It's fun,” he said. “You just need to smile and act confidently.” Though I could do both, facing fifty people remained terrifying.
I picked the song Goodbye's to remember my mom. I trained my breathing, focused on emotions and adjusted my posture. I sang again and again. But when the audition day(试唱选拔日) came, seeing the choir director on the stage, I felt my heart nearly stopped. Everyone there all sang with such ease, so relaxed and calm. I held my sheet music tightly, watching until only a few of us remained.
Then I stood and walked out. John caught me trembling in the hallway. “I can't do this,” I announced, tears already coming out of my eyes.
“Stay right here! Sing for me!” John told me. I shook my head violently. But he looked at me calmly.“If you don't sing well, I' ll tell you. But if you quit today, you' ll regret it in the future. Everyone up there is nervous. But you can do this. Now, practice. Pretend I am the choir director.” I nodded slowly.
We both knew I was too shy to open my heart after our mom passed away. John crossed his arms, and said quietly, “You' ve got our mom's voice.” My breath caught— Mom's lullabies (摇篮曲) had died with her five years ago. “Now sing like she’ s listening,” he said. The first note cracked and he instantly demanded I restart. My second attempt trembled less. He nodded, “Better. Now it's time to get back there.”
When we reentered the auditorium(礼堂), the director glanced at her watch. “Ten minutes left.” My sheet music shook as I approached the stage. I looked back, absolutely terrified, but my brother caught my eye and winked. I wasn't as afraid then.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, I stepped onto the stage.
The next day, I checked the list on the door of the auditorium and found my name on it.

一、参考范文
Finally, I stepped onto the stage. The spotlight felt blinding, and my hands trembled as Ihanded my sheet music to the pianist. Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes for a second, imagining Mom's face. The first note came out shaky, but I pushed through, remembering John's advice: Sing like she's listening. My voice steadied, filling the room with the emotions I'd practiced so hard to convey. The fear melted away, replaced by something stronger—— determination. By the final note, my heart was pounding, but not from terror. It was pride.
The next day, I checked the list on the door of the auditorium and found my name on it. Icouldn't believe my eyes—I'd made it! My whole body shook with excitement. John came up behind me and patted me on the shoulder. “Mom would be proud,” he whispered. Choked with gratitude,I turned around and hugged him tightly, knowing that I couldn't have done it without him.In that moment, I realized John was right: the only true failure was giving up. And now, with my name on that list, I knew I'd chosen courage over regret.
