The World Games is organized by the International World Games Association(协会). It is a sport event held every four years and it is important for non-Olympic sports.
Chengdu won the right to host the 2025 World Games in May 2019. It is the first city on the Chinese mainland to host the event. On August 6th, 2024, the slogan and mascots (口号和吉祥物) for the Chengdu World Games appeared in public for the first time. They were chosen from 3, 749 slogans and 1,924 mascots from all over the world.
"The slogan 'Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders' shows Chengdu's strong love for sports and life," said Xu Xingguo, who is an officer of the city.
The mascots, “Shu Bao” and “Jin Zai”, are based on two rare(稀有的) animals found in Sichuan: the giant panda and the golden snub-nosed monkey. The design team wants to help people learn about these rare animals and the importance of protecting nature. What's more, the names of the two mascots show the national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) in Sichuan—“Shu Jin(蜀锦)”.
The Chengdu World Games is going to take place from Aug. 7th to 17th in 2025. Lu Shengmei, 80, received the national honorary title(荣誉称号) of People's Health Worker in September2024. She spent nearly her whole life in Jiaxian County in Shaanxi Province.
When Lu first arrived in the Jiaxian deep in the mountains in 1968, she was a 24-year-old graduate from one of the top medical schools in Beijing. What truly touched her heart at that time was the backward(落后的) and dangerous practices of local doctors. The trouble faced by future mothers and newborns there also worried her.Knowing the shortage(短缺) of doctors and medicines in Jiaxian, and the harm caused by backward customs, Lu believed that she was needed there more than anywhere else.
