I was standing in front of the dressing-room mirror, looking unhappy. I wore a white
dancing dress and a white swim cap that covered most of my hair. I was one of 10 snowflakes in
my dance school’s Winter Wonderland Show.
“Grandma, I really don’t feel like being in the show,” I said. Grandma Lani looked up from
what she was doing. “Why, Avery You love to dance.” I used to love to dance. But Ms. Tuttle
gave the part of the Snow Queen to Lisa. She got to do a dance onstage all by herself. The
snowflakes just had to run and spin (旋转) to look like a snowstorm. “I don’t like our dance. And
no one would notice if I wasn’t there. There are so many of us.” I sighed (叹气).
Grandma was about to speak. Then something outside the window caught her eye. She got
my coat and pulled me out of the dressing room and through the doors to the outside. It was
snowing. Grandma held her breath, and I suddenly thought of something. “Grandma, have you
ever seen snow before ” “No. In Hawaii, it snows only on the very tops of mountains.”
I had seen snow lots of times, but now I tried to see it differently. Like it was new. So many
snowflakes came together to create something magical. “Aloha,” my grandma said softly to the
sky. Aloha can mean many things, including “love”, “hello”, and “good-bye”. She continued to
say, “I don’t know when I’ll see something like that again.” “I do,” I said. I took Grandma Lani’s
hand and pulled her back inside.
When the stage lights came up and the music started, I ran and spun with all of the other
snowflakes. I didn’t care if Grandma Lani could see me. I was helping her see a snowstorm.

What you say to yourself affects how you act and feel. Most people have inner voice. It’s
the internal chatter that goes on inside your head. What you say to yourself and how you say it,
makes a difference to how you think, feel and behave.
Your inner voice is always with you, giving a commentary inside your head. You might
notice it when you make a mistake, when you try something new, or when you solve a problem.
Your inner voice has different tones. Sometimes it sounds kind but at other times it can sound
mean or scared. Young people’s coach Maria Evans says it should be treated with kindness. “It
gets scared when you think about doing something that feels challenging. It can be helpful to talk
to that voice with kindness and understanding. Often all it needs is to be listened to and spoken to
with love and comfort.
Your inner voice, also known as your self-talk, has an impact (影响) on you because you
already pay attention to it. So what you say to yourself, and what you hear, sinks (渐渐渗入) in. If
you keep telling yourself you can’t do maths or you’re no good at making friends or you’re not
creative, over time you’ll believe what your inner voice is saying. When you talk to yourself using
a phrase like “I’ve got to tidy my room,” it makes the task feel harder. If instead you say, “I
choose to tidy my room, and then I’ll be able to find the books or toys I want easily,” it’s more
positive. You’re telling yourself how you’ll benefit from tidying your room.
Noticing what your inner voice says and choosing to talk kindly and encouragingly to
yourself can help you feel more confident. For example, when you make a mistake, tell yourself it’
s OK to get things wrong and you’ll learn for next time. Or when you do something you felt
nervous about, congratulate yourself for being brave and having a go. If you’re not sure what to
say, imagine you’re talking to your best friend and trying to support and help them inside your
head.
27.What does Maria Evans suggest when your inner voice sounds scared
A.Listening to your inner voice and speaking to it kindly.
B.Taking outside advice instead of your inner voice.
C.Paying no attention to your inner voice.
D.Following your inner voice.
28.Which inner voice would the writer most probably hope for
A.“It’s my duty, so I have to finish the task first.”
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
B.“I’m so careless. I should always keep the keys with me.”
C.“It’s too hard, so I don’t want to speak in public ever again.”
D.“It’s quite normal to feel nervous about the test. Just enjoy it.”
29.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A.Making Friends with Your Inner Voice B.Accepting Your Inner Voice as a Guide
C.Training Your Inner Voice to Be Much Better D.Understanding Different Types of Your

Do Primates Make Friends Like Humans
Primates, such as bonobos and chimpanzees, are brainy animals that live in complex (复杂
的) social groups, similar to humans. They form friendships both within and outside their families.
But do primates create friendships in the same way as humans do Scientists study their behavior
to find out.
Friendship among primates can be noticed through behaviors like grooming. For example,
bonobos in the Democratic Republic of the Congo often remove parasites (寄生虫) from each
other’s fur. This behavior shows a close relationship, much like how humans help friends.
However, understanding friendship in animals is more complex than just observing these
behaviors.
Primates’ survival depends on their ability to interact socially. They use awareness—
knowledge stored in memory—to understand the goals and intentions (意 图 ) of others. For
example, if a primate sees another one moving towards him, it might wonder if the other one
wants to play or fight. This ability to predict goals is key for forming friendships.
However, not all interactions involve understanding intentions. Sometimes, primates react
based on sensory inputs like touch or sound. For example, if a primate is hit after a foot stamp (跺
脚), it might fear foot stamping in the future, without understanding the intention behind it.
Primates use gestures and sounds to communicate, which helps them understand each other’
第 1 页,共 3 页
s goals. For example, a bonobo might touch another gently to signal a desire for grooming. This
intentional communication enables them to focus closely on the other one’s goal, making it easier
to form munication helps primates build strong social connections.
Stress affects primates’ ability to form friendships. When primates feel really stressed, they
only think about the danger right in front of them and don’t pay attention to unclear social hints
(暗示). Chronic (慢性的) stress can make the situation worse, as primates may altogether avoid
social interactions. However, intentional communication can help overcome this. For example,
stressed chimpanzees use attention-getting gestures to signal friendship, even when they don’t
know the other well.
Studying primates helps us understand our own social behaviors. This research also
highlights the importance of communication in forming, building and keeping social ties. By
understanding these behaviors, we can better appreciate the social nature of primates and humans
alike.
30.Why does the writer write paragraph 2
A.To explain how primates use grooming to form friendships.
B.To lead in the complexity of understanding animal friendships.
C.To argue that primates form friendships only within their families.
D.To discuss the influence of stress on primates’ social interactions.
31.What does the word “highlight” in the last paragraph mean
A.draws attention to B.passes over
C.leaves out D.builds up
32.What do we know from the passage
A.The ability of building friendship is key to goal-predicting.
B.Primates use only sensory inputs to interact with each other.
C.Intentional communication is important for primates to form connections.
D.Stress has a positive effectiveness on primates’ ability to form friendships.
33.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing the passage
A.To compare the social behaviors of primates and humans.
B.To encourage people to understand the friendship in animals.
C.To discuss the effects of stress on primates’ social interactions.

D.To explain how communication helps primates build friendships.

Farms for City Children
Who are Farms for City Children
Farms for City Children is a charity (慈善机构) set up in 1976 by children’s writer Sir
Michael Morpurgo and his wife. More than 100,000 children have been to their farm to have one
of the most memorable and empowering (增强信心的) weeks of their childhood. It’s a visit that
builds children’s self-confidence and self-worth as they work as a team on the farm.
What does Farms for City Children offer
Farms for City Children offers children the chances to have meaningful connections to the
natural world. They try to empower children to experience the physical and mental health benefits
of being in the countryside, and to see themselves as the caretakers of our land.
What is the influence on children who visit
The influence of a week on the farm is profound (深远的). Benefits of the week on the farm
include great changes to behavior, levels of confidence and character developments of children.
Additionally, children experience a deep connection to nature and a sense of their own social
responsibility to be masters of our planet.
What do children learn
Days start early and each day is different because of the cycle of the seasons and different
weather. There is also a routine and structure to life on the farm. The animals must be looked after
before breakfast; goats milked, eggs collected, and seeds sown.
On the farm, children learn where their food comes from on a farm to fork journey. They
grow, harvest (收获), prepare and cook their own food, which improves children’s food choices.
Locally produced meat, fruit and vegetables can help them develop a habit of leading a healthier
life. Children also learn to take responsibility for themselves, each other and their animals and

Do Primates Make Friends Like Humans
Primates, such as bonobos and chimpanzees, are brainy animals that live in complex (复杂
的) social groups, similar to humans. They form friendships both within and outside their families.
But do primates create friendships in the same way as humans do Scientists study their behavior
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
to find out.
Primates use gestures and sounds to communicate, which helps them understand each other’
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
