On November 16th, 2024, our school held a very interesting event called the Taobao Festival,
which became a really fun part of school life.
The Taobao Festival was held on the school playground. We collected different things from
our homes that we no longer needed, such as used books, toys, school supplies and some
homemade crafts(自制的工艺品). Then we carefully priced and labeled(给……贴标签) them.
When it began, the playground became a busy market with each class having a decorated
booth. It was a very lively event. Some students were selling, shouting out things to introduce
their products. They showed great enthusiasm(热情) and business skills, trying their best to make
a deal. Others walked around as customers, looking for things they liked. There were many
different items(物品) on show. It was really a treat for the eyes.
I also took part in this activity, bringing some of my toys and some well-kept storybooks. At
my booth, I met many classmates and teachers. We made deals in a friendly way. Through this
process, I not only learned how to communicate and make deals with others but also had a better
understanding of the value of things.

Some people like watching horror(恐怖) movies, even though the movies scare them so
much that they end up screaming(尖叫). Why do some people love scary things
A group of scientists at the University of Pittsburgh in the US found that fear can sometimes
be good for us. It can raise our mood and help us become more confident. In their study, 262
volunteers went into a haunted house. They stayed there for 35 minutes and came across many
scary things. Both before and after the experience, they reported how they were feeling.
The results showed that most of the volunteers felt happier and less anxious(焦虑的) after the
experience. This has to do with dopamine(多巴胺), something that the brain produces. It makes
people feel excited, and this effect can last even after the danger has passed, according to National
Geographic.
What’s more, being scared in a safe place could be a good way to boost(增强) our confidence.
It made the volunteers feel confident that they could handle a scary situation in real life. It helped
them deal with the fear we all have.
More than that, fear helps create strong social bonds(社会纽带). In scary situations, people
are more likely to feel unsure about the future. As a result, they stick together and depend more on
each other for support. Scientists call this a “tend-and-befriend system”. It means in scary
situations, people help their friends and make new ones, which makes them feel better and more
protected. A good example of this is soldiers who fight side by side in war.
53. What does the underlined part “a haunted house” mean

Can you imagine meeting a wild boar(野猪) in the city On November 24th, 2024, a wild
boar broke into a house in Shaanxi Province and attacked an old woman. Also, on October 27th,
2024, a wild boar ran into a train in Nanjing.
According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, 2 million wild boars live
in different parts of China. Xie Yi, a professor at Beijing Forestry University, said wild boars are
better at adapting to the environment and having more babies than their enemies, like wolves. This
has made them spread more. Since they often come down from hills to search for food in spring
and fall, people see them more often in towns.
Wild boars usually choose to stay away from humans. However, if people keep feeding them,
the boars might stop being afraid of humans and come closer for food. This could be dangerous.
Also, without natural enemies, hunting(捕猎) is the only way to keep their number under control.
In June, 2023, wild boars were taken off the protected wildlife list. This means people can hunt
them without a license. Shaanxi and Ningxia have looked for hunters to help control boars’
number.
However, Sun Quanhui from the World Animal Protection Association noted that hunting is
only a temporary(暂时的) solution. For long-term control, we need to bring back their natural
enemies and make sure wild boars have enough living space. This will help stop people and the
wild animals from running into each other.
The National Forestry and Grassland Administration introduced a plan to make rules to help
stop and control problems caused by wild animals. The rules will also support people who are hurt
by wild animals.
57. What happened in Jiangsu Province according to Paragraph 1
A. A train hit a wild boar.
B. Hunters captured a wild boar.
C. A wild boar was found in a city park.
D. A wild boar broke into a house and attacked an old woman.
58. Why are wild boars coming into towns
A. The environment is getting worse.
B. They want to search for more food.
C. They like getting closer to people.
D. They need a safe place to raise babies.
59. What can we learn from the way to control wild boars’ number
A. Hunting wild boars requires a license and is heavily limited.
B. Hunting is seen as a short-term measure to manage the wild boars’ number.
C. There are plans to completely eliminate(消灭) wild boars through hunting.
D. The government has decided not to involve local communities in hunting efforts.
60. What does Sun Quanhui suggest for long-term control of wild boars’ number
A. Increasing hunting efforts and providing enough food.
B. Building barriers and reducing their living space to keep boars out.
C. Relocating boars to uninhabited areas and reducing food supplies.
D. Reintroducing natural enemies and ensuring enough living space.

Well, you use “lunar bricks”, of course!
Scientists at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) have developed

I’m sorry to know that you’re stressed out. And I had the same feeling as you. Last week, I

After that, I felt much better.
And I know the exams make you nervous. Here’s some advice that can help you. First, you

Boys and girls, I’d like you all to listen carefully. I wasn’t happy with how the last fire practice
went. Please make sure you know what to do this time.
The practice will be next Monday morning at a quarter to ten. It’ll take about twenty minutes.
When you hear the fire bell, close the windows and leave the classroom quickly. Leave your bags
and coats inside the classroom. In a real fire, there isn’t time to get any of these. Everyone should
leave the school building through the front door. Walk across the car park and then get together by
the library.
When you’re there, your teacher will check your names. You must not run or talk during the fire
practice. That’s very important. If you have any questions, please come and see me in my office.
Thank you.
