Seychelles, Kenya
This fairly untouched group of 115 coral and granite islands is full of attractions to visit, from UNESCO-listed jungles and lively coral reefs to beaches lined with palm trees. The Seychelles also feature some of the planet’s richest fishing grounds, making this a top destination for fishing lovers.
Santorini, Greece

In South Africa, a former passenger train now serves as a travelling medical center to provide health services to people in need.
The train is known as Phelophepa, which means “good, clean, health”. It travels across South Africa to provide medical care to a mix of patients for whom usual health care is unavailable (难以获得的) or rare. The train has been operating since the early 1990s. The train carries medical professionals around the country, even to the most rural villages. Officials say the service helps at least 375,000 South Africans each year.
The care patients receive is different from the government’s main public health care system. That system serves an estimated 84 percent of the population. But government insurance plans are too costly for many people to pay for.
Thethiwe Mahlangu has used the health train and recently spoke to the media about her experiences. She said local health clinics in her area — in Tembisa — cannot effectively serve her needs. “There we are not treated well,” Mahlangu said. She noted that when people ask about such questions, the medical workers say they simply need bigger hospitals.
When the train began in 1994, many people in South Africa still lived in rural villages with little availability to health centers. The time was a period of great change in South Africa. Today, the train assists the growing populations of the capital, Pretoria, as well as Johannesburg, the country’s economic center.
Shemona Kendiah, the train’s manager, said that the train could remain in one place for lots of days to see as many people as possible. Those going to major population centers — like Tembisa — can end up staying up to two weeks.
The patient, Jane Mabuza, got a full health examination as well as services for her teeth. She believes the train will be able to reach many more people in other areas. “Here on the train you never hear that anything has been finished,” Mabuza added.
4. What challenge do many South Africans face in getting healthcare
A. Local health clinics refuse to treat them. B. The country lacks medical professionals.
C. The Phelophepa train cannot reach rural areas. D. Government insurance is not affordable for them.
5. Why does Mahlangu prefer the Phelophepa train to local clinics
A. Local clinics have no proper medical facilities. B. The train provides faster service than hospitals.
C. The train offers more specialized treatments. D. Local clinic staff often reject patients.
6. How does the author stress the impact of the Phelophepa train
A. Sharing fictional stories. B. Listing some medical terms.
C. Using direct quotations from patients. D. Comparing with other healthcare programs.
7. How does Jane Mabuza feel about the Phelophepa train
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Disappointed. D. Indifferent.

With Mel Robbins’ new book, The Let Them Theory, lots of people are talking about boundaries (边界).
As relationship experts, boundaries are one of the most important parts of our work. Why are we so focused on boundaries, as experts who want to help people be closer to one another Because healthy boundaries are the core foundation of any healthy relationship.
First, let’s review what boundaries are. Imagine that you have a bubble (气泡) of personal space around you. A boundary is a decision you make about what you let inside of the bubble. For example, you might want to let people inside the bubble if they bring you joy, if you care about their well-being, or if you’re working on something meaningful together. We can have lots of bubbles of different sizes for different aspects of our lives.
Importantly, keeping on these boundaries is all about what you do, not what others do. You can’t force someone to behave differently within your bubble; their behavior is not within your control. So what do you do if someone violates (冒犯) your boundary You can move your bubble away from them by changing your own behavior: For example, you might invest less emotionally in the relationship, physically leave the situation, share less information about yourself, be less open, or even cut off the relationship totally.
Healthy relationships require a foundation of mutual (相互的) respect, and this includes respecting other people’s right to make their own decisions — even if we don’t like, agree with, or tolerate their choices. So how do we let other people make their own choices without letting them harm us or violate our personal space We set and hold strong boundaries.
Boundaries certainly protect our own individual well-being, but they also protect and develop our relationships with others. Keeping our boundaries allows us to build trust in ourselves so that we can keep ourselves safe, regardless of what other people say or do. And this sense of safety, in turn, allows us to take the risk of being weak in connection with others.
8. Why do relationship experts focus on boundaries
A. They want to take advantage of people’s behavior.
B. Boundaries help people become more independent.
C Healthy boundaries are essential for fine relationships.
D. It’s easier to work with people who have clear boundaries.
9. What is a boundary according to the text
A. A rule that others must follow. B. A way to force others to behave.
C. A physical barrier around a person. D. A decision about what enters one’s personal space.
10. What can you do if someone violates your boundary
A. Argue with them. B. Ignore them completely.
C. Adjust your own behavior. D. Try to change their behavior.
11. What is the main idea of the text
A. Mel Robbins’ new book and its influence.
B. Importance of maintaining healthy boundaries.
C. Ways to avoid personal boundaries being violated.
D. Differences between physical and emotional boundaries.

8-year-old S. Hariraj, a Foldscope (折叠显微镜) lover, has been using it for 2 years now. The Foldscope reveals a world of microorganisms. “The Foldscope taught me that the world we see around us can be very different from what we assume. It’s like having a third eye.” The 8-year-old is talking about a device that is a fully functional paper microscope.
Everything you need to construct the Foldscope comes in a small bag: A sheet of paper with four main parts to punch (打孔) out to build the microscope. The main part of the Foldscope is one long sheet of paper. Magnets (磁铁) stick to each end, holding front and back together. There’s a lens (镜片) in the bag — and a hole to show where it should go. Once put together the Foldscope is the size of a bookmark.
The Foldscope is the invention of Manu Prakash and his colleague Jim Cybulski. The inspiration came when Prakash, 44, was growing up in a northern Indian city. Now a professor at Stanford University, he remembers an afternoon in Grade 6 when he and his classmates were stumped by a single test question. “We were asked to draw a microscope,” he says. “None of us could because we just hadn’t seen one. Growing up, I knew that the spirit of exploration was critical to the study of science,” says Prakash.
“And it’s not just for beginners. Many scientists and researchers apply it to their work,” says Karthik Balasubramaniam, a scientist. The Foldscope has helped make his fieldwork easier. He studies a microscopic kind of sea plants, collecting water samples from across the country to assess biodiversity and pollution. “Carrying an expensive microscope onto the field to study each water sample can be hard,” he says. “The Foldscope isn’t as powerful as a lab microscope. But it can let me see whether my water sample has sea plants or not.”
12. Why does Hariraj compare the Foldscope to a third eye
A. It contributes to his insights into the real world. B. It can be used to replace a real human eye.
C. It is small in size and convenient to carry. D. It helps to improve his vision.
13. What do magnets serve to do in making the Foldscope
A. Increase the weight of its central part. B. Indicate where the lens should be fixed.
C. Simplify the process of making the Foldscope. D. Fix both ends of a sheet of paper to each other.
14. What does the underlined word “stumped” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Attracted. B. Scared. C. Shamed. D. Beaten.
15. What can we learn about Foldscope from the last paragraph
A. It matches a lab microscope in all respects. B. It suits professionals as well as amateurs.
C. It first appeared before Hariraj’s birth. D. It is undervalued by some researchers.

The classroom was silent except for the rhythmic beating of rain against the windows. David stared at the math test paper in front of him, his heart sinking. A big “68” was lying across the top—his worst score ever. How could this happen The numbers swam before his eyes like laughing strangers.
That night, David lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. The failure consumed him like a hungry mouse. His parents had high hope for him, and he didn’t want to disappoint them. Maybe he was just not smart enough. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he quickly wiped them away. He knew he had to do something.
The next morning, David arrived at school early. He went to see his math teacher, Ms. Brown. “I…I failed the exam. I wonder if I can make it,” he said, his voice shaking. Ms. Brown smiled gently and said, “Failure is not the end, David. It’s a chance to learn. Let’s look at your test together.” For the next hour, Ms. Brown patiently went through each problem with him. He also suggested David join the math study group. In the study group, David met Will, who was also struggling with math. They became study partners, quizzing each other and working through problems together. “Don’t worry,” Will said. “We’ll get through this together.”
Weeks later, the pressure began to mount again. David spent every spare minute reading textbooks, but the formulas(公式)felt like slippery fish in his grasp. His parents’ unspoken expectations hung in the air like a storm cloud, and he often stayed up late, eyes burning from tiredness. During a group quiz, Will answered three questions in a row while David grasp his pen awkwardly, his mind blank. “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this,” he said to himself, staring at his shaking hands. That night, he buried his face in his pillow(枕头), wondering if all his efforts were fruitless.

Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope you are doing well. To enhance cultural exchange and mutual understanding, our school will host an International Festival Culture Event, which provides students with a great opportunity to learn about global traditions and customs from different countries.
We would be truly honored if you could attend the opening ceremony and deliver a short speech about an important festival in your hometown. Your sharing, which will broaden our horizons and deepen our appreciation of cultural diversity, will surely make the event more meaningful and inspiring.
We are sincerely looking forward to your earlier reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】 Ms. Brown noticed David’s condition and pulled him aside. “You’re trying too hard,” she said, pressing a cup of warm tea into his hands. “Understanding math isn’t about memorizing — it’s about connecting ideas.” She taught him to visualize formulas as puzzles, and Will shared his effective learning method he had come up with during the study group period. Gradually, the numbers stopped swimming, and David began to see patterns in the chaos. Besides, he started sleeping earlier, keeping reviewing his notes instead of staying up preparing for the examination just before it.
On the day of the retest, sunlight broke through the clouds. David’s pencil flew across the paper with newfound confidence. When Ms. Brown handed back his paper with “85” on it, Will hugged him so hard that they almost knocked over a desk. That evening, David wrote in his journal: “Storms don’t last forever. Sometimes you just need to adjust your sails.” Now, he helps classmates after school, sharing Ms. Brown’s advice and his own experience and learning methods. David knows that even in darkness, stars keep shining — especially when you refuse to give up.
