肉食性的捕食高手。螳螂的体型多样，小的可能只有12毫米长，而大的能长到惊人的160毫米。它们的身体通常呈流线型，以绿色、褐色为主，也有一些带有花斑的种类，这使得它们在不同环境中都能很好地伪装自己。螳螂的头部呈三角形，可以灵活地转动，复眼大而明亮，有着重合的视野，这有利于它们捕食猎物。说到捕食，就不得不提螳螂那标志性的前肢，就像两把锋利的大刀，这让它们在捕捉猎物时得心应手。螳螂的捕食动作迅速且精准，能在极短的时间内制服猎物。
螳螂属于节肢动物中的昆虫纲，它们的身体结构包括头、胸、腹三部分，其中胸部有三对足，即六只脚。这些脚在螳螂的生活中起着重要作用，特别是前足，它们通常比较粗大且呈镰刀状，非常适合捕捉猎物。
螳螂一般在每年的8月到9月产卵 。螳螂在全球的分布范围很广，除了寒冷的地域外，几乎到处都能看到它们的身影。从沙漠到雨林，从地面到树冠，它们都能很好地适应环境并生存下来。不同种类的螳螂有着不同的生活习性，有的擅长拟态，有的则能在干旱的环境中生存。
螳螂是捕食害虫的高手，它们能消灭大量的害虫，对农业和林业都有很大的益处。不过，螳螂之间有时也会自相残杀，特别是当食物短缺时，大吞小、雌吃雄的现象时有发生。此外，一些种类的螳螂甚至能攻击小鸟、蜥蜴等小动物，展现出它们的强大捕食能力。
