1. 含义
用来连接词与词、短语与短语以及句子与句子的虚词叫作连词。
连词在句中不能单独作句子成分，一般不重读。
连词按照性质可分为两类: 并列连词和从属连词。其中and、
but属于并列连词，because属于从属连词。
并列连词是用来连接语法地位相同的单词、短语以及句子的
连词。主要用来表示并列关系、转折关系、因果关系及选
择关系。

2. 用法：
and
意为“和; 与”，可根据具体语境进行翻译，也可不译，起承上
启下的作用。

她喜欢听音乐和画画。

(1) 用作并列连词，可以连接并列的单词、短语或句子。

易错:
在否定句中要把and 变为or。
I like apples and oranges.
我喜欢苹果和橙子。
I don’t like apples or oranges.
我不喜欢苹果和橙子。
but
意为 “但是; 然而”，用来引出相反意见或不同情况。连接两
个并列的成分或句子时，语气较强，在意义上构成明显的对
比。与前一分句可用（可不用）逗号，与后一分句不用逗号。
The woman is old, but she looks very young.
这个女人年龄大了，但她看起来非常年轻。
I had asked everyone but only two people came.
我邀请了所有人，但只有两个人来了。
because
意为 “因为”，用来引导原因状语从句，强调直接造成某种结
果的理由和原因。多置于主句之后，有时为了强调，也可置
于主句之前，并用逗号与句子的其他成分隔开。
因为我太忙，所以我不能同你一起出去。
Because I am very busy, I can’t go out with you.
=I am very busy, so I can’t go out with you.
because还可以用来回答由why引导的特殊疑问句。
