第三节 任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Dear teachers, parents and fellow students,
I'm very proud that you have chosen me to speak to you today.
I have three roses here—a red one, a yellow one and a white one. These roses are to thank
three groups of people for the three most important things that I have learnt. These three
things are friendship, effort and trust.
I give the red rose to my friends. When I started school here, my Chinese was not good,
and some of my mistakes were very funny. But they were not laughing at me. They taught me to say
many things in Chinese and kindly invited me to join them. Thanks to their kindness, my Chinese
is much better.
I give the white rose to my teachers who have taught me that there is no suc-cess without
effort. When I started running in the 800 meters, I just wanted to give

up. But the P. E. teacher, Ms. Huang, helped me. She ran along with me, and she said, “You
only really lose when you give up!” I still can't run fast enough, but I’ve learnt to try my
best, not only with running but with whatever else I do.
I give the yellow rose to my parents for teaching me that love is about trust. When I
wanted to learn the violin, my father told me that I should work harder at maths. I was
disappointed. Then, on the morning of my birthday, I woke up to find a beautiful violin at my
bedside. There was a note from my father, “I'm sure you will be very good at music. I know
you will be better at maths.”
I'm sure that you all have your own memories about the happiness of the last three years,
and the people whom you want to thank, so let's all stand up and say,“Thank you, friends,
teachers and parents! We love you!”

Do you know what your IQ(intelligence quotient) is You can find out by tak-ing a test.
But what about your EQ Do you know what EQ is EQ(emotional quo-tient) is a measure of your
ability to notice and control your emotions(情绪), as well as the emotions of others.
Simply, having a high EQ means that you' re a“people” person. You know

yourself very well and you can easily understand others. Many experts divide EQ into
three skills— the ability to recognize your own emotions; the ability to use those
emotions to solve problems; and the ability to control emotions, such as by calming
yourself down when you' re feeling nervous.
Does it seem clear to you that having a high EQ can be a good thing People who have
a high EQ usually give a great performance at work, especially if their jobs need them to
deal with strangers often. What's more, that kind of people usu-ally gets on well with
others. Because of this, many companies are now using EQ tests when employing new workers.
Having a high EQ can help you in everyday life as well. For example, when two
friends have an argument, people with a high EQ can“read” the other person’s emotions
and know when and how to stop the argument, perhaps by ending it in a humorous way.
If you feel like you have a low EQ, don’ t worry. There are many ways to make it
higher such as finding out what stresses you most when you have some im-portant jobs and
using positive thinking to recover(恢复) from failures. Then you’re having a higher EQ.
