What’s your favourite poem For some people it’s a short, funny limerick (五行打油诗). For others it
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
might be a famous love sonnet (十四行诗) written by William Shakespeare. Some poems describe the beauty of
nature, others discuss questions about family. There are long epic (史诗) poems that tell of heroes and monsters.
On the other hand, there are Japanese haiku (俳句) poems, which have just three lines. When it comes to poetry,
there is something for everybody. Some people say reading a poem is better than diving into a normal story. What
do you think
Yes — poems are fun to learn and recite (背诵)
The great thing about poems is that they come in all shapes and sizes. Short poems are perfect for when you
don’t have much time — certainly not enough time to read a whole book. With a few words, poetry can be
beautiful, thoughtful and influential. Poems are great because you can memorize them and share them with your
friends; it’s harder to do that with a story. Poems can be song lyrics (歌词) too— you could learn one by heart
and recite it on the way to school. A book of poems gives you lots of themes all in one place, offering you much
more than just one story.
No — you can get lost in a story for days
It’s because poems are mostly so short that they are not as good as stories. It’s much more enjoyable to curl
(蜷缩) up with a good book, to keep coming back to it, chapter after chapter, rather than read a poem that you
might have forgotten by tomorrow. It’s more enjoyable to really get to know the characters of a story and go on a
journey with them. Besides, poems can be quite hard to understand, especially old ones that were written centuries
ago. Novels usually have more information about characters and settings (背景), which means you get to step into
a whole new world and escape from reality. You also find out what happens in the end, while with some poems
you are left wondering what they really mean.
32.Which is true about the types of poems
A.Limericks are funny poems with three lines. B.Love sonnets describe the beauty of nature.
C.Epic poems discuss questions about family. D.Haiku poems are short Japanese poems.
33.What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 1 mean
A.Everybody loves reading poems. B.People have similar interest in poems.
C.Poetry can meet different people’s tastes.D.Poetry influences people in the same way.

A.Amy: I like short and beautiful words. B.Lily: I want to know more about the characters

①Can you imagine a doctor performing a surgery (手术) on a patient thousands of kilometers away A
recent surgery was done by doctors in Chengdu in real. Using a robotic technology, the doctors saved a patient in
Lhasa (拉萨). With the development of AI-powered remote surgery, modern healthcare has changed in a big way.
②AI played an important part in this surgery. By studying tons of medical data (数据), AI helps doctors
plan the surgery, predict problems that could happen, and find the solutions.
③During the surgery, AI also tells the doctors the patient’s necessary information, like heart rate, blood
pressure and oxygen levels. If anything of the patient goes wrong, it can warn the medical team and suggest
changes to the surgery plan.
④Another key role in this surgery was supercomputing technology. Remote surgeries need fast data
transmission (传送), as even small delays (延迟) can be dangerous. Supercomputing can quickly deal with a lot of
data, making sure that the surgery pictures are clear and that the doctors’ orders are followed at once.
⑤The robot used in this surgery does an excellent job. It has one arm and one hole, which makes the cut
smaller, making less pain and speeding up the process for the patient to get better. It also increases the chances of
a successful surgery and lowers the risk of accidents.
⑥This kind of surgery is a huge excitement, especially for people in remote areas. It means that patients
don’t have to travel far for good medical care, saving time and being treated in time.

What’s your favourite poem For some people it’s a short, funny limerick (五行打油诗). For others it
might be a famous love sonnet (十四行诗) written by William Shakespeare.
Poems are great because you can memorize them and share them with your
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
friends; it’s harder to do that with a story.

A.Everybody loves reading poems. B.People have similar interest in poems.
C.Poetry can meet different people’s tastes.D.Poetry influences people in the same way.
34.Who do you think prefers stories to poems
A.Amy: I like short and beautiful words. B.Lily: I want to know more about the characters
C.Millie: I have a strong interest in song lyrics. D.Simon: I want to recite what I read in a short time
35.Where is the passage probably taken from
A.A literature magazine.B.A sports website.C.A science fiction. D.A book review.

PEER PRESSURE
Peers are people who are about the same age as you. Peer pressure (压力) is when one or more friends or
people your own age make you feel stressed to do something. You feel as if you have to do that thing because
your peers are doing it,or are trying to make you do it.
Good peer pressure is when you feel pressured to do something good. You might do something good for
you, for others, or for the environment. Bad peer pressure is when you feel pressured to do something you shouldn’
t do. For example, it might be something that goes against rules, something dangerous, or something bad for your
health. It might also be something that goes against your values, or what you believe is good or right.
If a friend tries to pressure you to do something, you might feel you should do it to please your friend. You
might even feel that the person will not be your friend if you do not do it. People often want to be accepted by
their peers and not feel as if they stand out because they are different in some way. Sometimes people are afraid
others will make fun of them if they do not do what everyone else is doing.
Here are some questions to ask yourself when you feel peer pressure to do something:

If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you are feeling bad peer pressure. If people keep pressuring
you, say, “I do not want to talk about it anymore.” Then walk away and feel proud that you made a good decision.

At about four pm on every school day, a group of elderly volunteers in red vests (马甲) are seen waiting at

Yuan Peijun, 63, is the “grandma” who s 66 the heart-warming program in the community. In early
2019, Yuan started to help pick up a neighboring girl who was in the same kindergarten (幼儿园) as her grandson.
The girl's parents were still busy with work when she finished school, so picking her up on time was d 67

today as b 69 kids now study in the same primary school.
Yuan's action has i 70 more elderly women. In September 2019, a formal program was started in the
community. Now, the volunteer team has 58 “grandmas”, mostly in their 60s and 70s. They help working parents
pick up their children and help them with their homework u 71 their parents take over.
In the community, about 1,200 families are dual-income families (双 薪 家 庭 ), and most of them have
young children. Kindergartens and primary schools finish hours e 72 than most working parents get off
work. Thanks to these elderly volunteers, the problem of picking up children has been s 73 properly.
Experts say the program not only meets the n 74 of young families, but also makes full use of the
elderly as a group. Many elderly people are not r 75 to live the retired (退休的) life and they want to show
their value as well. The program is also a good example of the old Chinese saying— Close neighbors are better
than distant relatives.
