Most verbs + ed walk - walked
Verbs ending in -e + d love - loved
Verbs ending in a consonant + y - y + ied try - tried
Short verbs ending in a vowel + a consonant double the consonant + ed stop - stopped
一般情况加ed

We form the simple past tense of irregular verbs differently. We do not add -ed.
