My best friend Bill is always trying to find out ways to give the environment a helping hand. One day, Bill
brought some green cakes to school. At lunch, he shared his cakes with us. “Delicious!” “Wonderful!” Everyone

This semester (学期), at Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, students and
teachers have seen some changes. These changes happened because AI tools were brought in.
By using AI to come up with personalized (个性化的) exercises and exams, teachers at the school are able to

help each student in different ways.
After students finish studying a unit, teachers use AI to pick different questions from an online database (数据
库) that includes all kinds of materials outside school. This helps create a set of exercises for the unit, helping
students strengthen their knowledge. “We don’t need to carry all the heavy exercise books any more,” said
14-year-old He Liyan.
Students complete the exercise questions on answer sheets (答卷). Then, teachers use the AI tool for grading.
The tool provides data and graphics (图表) to help teachers understand both the overall class performance (表现)
and each student’s progress.
“Our teacher no longer explains all the questions one by one. Instead, she looks at the common mistakes and
provides one-on-one help for every one of us,” said 15-year-old Wang Dinghan.
Also, depending on their performance in past exams, students can get a personalized error log (错题日志) or
homework made by AI. So students can spend less time on what they already know and study what they don’t
know.
“I used to have a notebook where I wrote down my mistakes so that I could study them,” said Yu Zifu, 15.
“But now, AI does it for me!”
