An Experiment Report on Growing Potato Plants
Things prepared·a potato that has sprouts (芽) ·a flower pot with soil ·a camera to record progress
Observation
Day One Day Six Day Eleven Day Thirteen Day Fifteen
The colour of the soil looks darker because I have just watered it. In the centre of the pot, I can see a tiny sprout that has grown from the potato under the soil. I’ll call it Buddy. Buddy is green and yellow. I wonder how fast it will grow. Without much change in the past six days, I finally see some new progress on Buddy as it has grown taller. It’s exciting to see new life like this. I hope Buddy can grow faster. Buddy is getting larger! Three more new sprouts have grown around Buddy! Green leaves have grown on the new sprouts, but they have not fully grown yet. I guess I need to be a bit more patient. Buddy continues to grow taller. The leaves on the new sprouts have grown a bit. I’m also excited to see more sprouts that have grown from under the soil. Finally, the leaves on the other sprouts are 3cm tall. They’re so green. I hope they will soon grow into new potatoes.
What I have learned
It’s really interesting to grow potatoes. During these fifteen days, I have learned that growing potato plants needs plenty of water. If the soil is dry, the potato will fail to grow. The United Nations (UN) has decided that 2025 is the year of glacier preservation (冰川保护). It has also set March 21, 2025, as the first annual World Day for Glaciers. This event encourages everyone to help save glaciers.▲What are glaciers
You can imagine glaciers as slowly moving ice and snow on land. Over time, the snow adds up and turns into glacier ice. Glaciers have shaped mountains and valleys over Earth’s history. They are still moving and changing land in many places today.▲_________________________
Glaciers are not just necessary for the land. When glaciers melt (融化), the nutrients (养料) from the water are good for life in rivers and oceans.
In some places, glaciers provide water for people and animals. The UN says there are about 200,000 glaciers in the world, covering 10 percent of the land. They also hold 70 percent of Earth’s fresh water. In areas like the Himalayas, many people need glacier water to live. This water fills big rivers, such as the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra.▲Why are glaciers disappearing
Climate change is leading to serious problems for glaciers. Many glaciers have disappeared. The atmosphere (大气层) around the Earth is like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and keeping most heat from getting out. This natural process makes Earth warm enough for life. But when we burn fuels such as wood and coal, we produce a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2). Too much of this gas pollutes the atmosphere and causes it to keep in too much heat. As the Earth’s temperature is increasing, glaciers melt faster than they can recover.▲ The influence of glaciers disappearing
If glaciers disappear, there will be less water for us to drink and farm, while floods may happen more often due to melting ice. It would also be bad for animals and plants. Mountains with glaciers are home to special ecosystems and a large number of the world’s amphibians, birds and mammals. As temperatures rise and glaciers melt, these habitats become not fit for living. They may need to move higher up the mountains.

When people think about movies, they often talk about what they see. However, what they hear also plays an important role. The voices behind the characters help to bring them to life. Lyu Yanting, 37, the voice actor of little Nezha in Ne Zha 2, uses her voice to bring to life a great character who fights against fate (命运).
“Dubbing (配音) is very similar to acting,” said Lyu. Voice actors will get the play before they start. After reading it, they will have their own understanding of the story and character. During the dubbing process, she needs to show the character’s feelings. Also, she has to match her voice perfectly with the animation’s scenes. “The director plays an important role. For young people who want to enter the voice acting industry, Lyu offered her advice: If you truly love it, give it your all. You may not know what the future holds, but you can make the most of the present. Borrowing a line from Ne Zha 2, she said, “Who you are is only for you to decide.”

From red apples and yellow lemons to blueberries and green melons, fruit comes in many different colors. 26
According to Lu Wei from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, fruit colors actually come from their different pigments (色素). These pigments appear in different amounts, depending on where the fruit grows. 27
To find out how the environment affects fruit colors, Chinese scientists studied more than 280 different fruit colors, including white, red, blue, purple and black. They found that red fruit usually grows in cooler places. And instead of just growing in one place, you can find them growing in many places around the world. 28 The scientists also found that the closer the fruit is to the equator (赤道), the darker its color will be.
Animals have also had an influence on the evolution (进化) of fruit colors. Animals eat fruit and drop the seeds (种子) in other places later. 29 Therefore, in order to attract animals, some fruit develop colors that are easy for animals to see.
30 Fruit needs to develop colors that are fit for animals’ seeing abilities. For example, birds can see red more easily than humans can. Therefore, there tends to be more red fruit in areas where birds live. The lemurs (狐猴) of Madagascar are red-color-blind. Many yellow fruits can be found in their living places, as they can easily see this color.
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项,其中有一项多余选项。

Written by E. B.White and first published in 1952, Charlotte’s Web is a classic story set largely on a farm. It is a celebration of farm life, which is full of warmth and wisdom.
The story takes place on a farm. Eight-year-old Fern Arable is sad when she hears that her father is going to kill the smallest one of his pig’s new litter (幼崽). Saying that the pig has a right to life and promising to look after it in their family’s yard, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur. However, fearing his daughter is spending too much time with an animal, Mr. Arable sends Wilbur to the nearby farm of Fern’s uncle, Mr. Zuckerman.
At first, Wilbur is lonely and misses Fern. However, he settles in his new home when he makes friends with a spider (蜘蛛) named Charlotte and other animals. When Wilbur learns that he is going to be killed and served at Christmas dinner, Charlotte comes up with a plan to save him.
Charlotte spins (结网) words of praise like “Some pig” for Wilbur on her web. This draws the attention of the Zuckermans and their neighbours. They all think Wilbur is special and the thought of killing him becomes unthinkable.
When Wilbur is taken to the country fair, Charlotte goes to continue her work—She spins new messages. The results draw huge crowds and Charlotte’s plan to save Wilbur’s life pays off.
At the close of the fair, however, Charlotte says goodbye to Wilbur. She is dying. But she entrusts her friend with her eggs. Heartbroken, Wilbur takes the eggs back to the farm and sees that they hatch (孵化). Three of Charlotte’s “kids” stay with Wilbur and live happily with him on the farm.
While humorous, the novel also contains important lessons. For example, Fern’s caring for Wilbur teaches her responsibility. And she realizes that if she stands up for what she believes in, she can make a difference in the world.

However, my teacher encouraged me to practice daily, even for just 15 minutes. Gradually, my skills improved.
