One Possible Version:
Soon, Miguel and his friends became part of the Harmony Helpers. They worked under the hot
sun, carrying wood and painting fences. Neighbors of all ages joined in—teenagers hammered nails
into slides, mothers planted flowers, and elderly men offered tools from their garages. The air was
filled with chatter and laughter. As Miguel tightened the chains of the swings, he remembered his
grandfather’s hands guiding his own tiny fingers years ago. Now, his hands, roughened by work,
mirrored those memories. Betty waved from across the field, her picture of a rising sun nearly
complete. The playground was slowly transforming into a link between past joy and future hope.
On the day of the playground’s opening ceremony, the entire neighborhood turned up. Families
flooded the playground. Children raced to the shiny swings, their voices lively and bright. Miguel
watched a girl beg her father, “Push me higher!”—just as he had once begged his grandfather. Betty
stepped forward, her voice warm yet firm: “This place isn’t just swings and slides. It’s where we
choose to rebuild trust, one nail at a time.” Nearby, an elderly couple shared stories of their own
childhood games. Miguel smiled, realizing the playground now held countless memories, old and
new. Here, every nail and flower whispered: Community is built by hearts, not just hands.

2025 年沈阳市高三年级教学质量监测(三)英语试题听力原文:
Text 1
M: I thought you were reserved and distant the first time we met. I seldom saw you engage much
with others.
W: Really I guess I was just in my own world.
M: But after spending some time together, I realize that you’re actually helpful and always
enthusiastic at work.
Text 2
W: Did you see the news about the upcoming street fair
M: Yeah. I’ll set up a stand to sell some paper cuts and lanterns. And my sister will sell clothes. Are
you planning to participate in it
W: Yes. I’ll sell some homemade strawberry jams and apple butter.
Text 3
W: I’ve been feeling down lately. Any ideas on how to cheer up
M: Listening to some upbeat songs may do the trick. Also, meet up with your friends. Their company
can really turn things around.
W: Good suggestions. I’ll try them.
Text 4
W: Hi, I have some questions about my current health insurance plan. Could you help me
M: Of course! I’ll do my best to answer your questions about the insurance plan. Tell me your policy
number so that I can access the relevant details.
Text 5
W: Did you experience the power failure in our neighborhood last night
M: Yes! It was annoying. I was in the middle of watching a show. What about you, Emma
W: I was reading The Great Gatsby. Then I had to go to sleep since there was nothing else to do.
Text 6
W: ⑥I’m thinking of starting a self-service gym. What do you think
M: Sounds interesting,⑦Lily! ⑥Where would you open it
W: Maybe in a busy area near offices and universities. People there need a workout place.
M: Smart move. What equipment will you have
W: Running machines, exercise bikes and weight training machines.
M: ⑦How about membership fees
W: ⑦$30 a month. There’ll be no trainers, so prices will be relatively low. I hope my gym can
attract many students and office staff with such favorable prices.
M: How much will you spend at first
W: About $40,000 for equipment and rent.
Text 7
M: Welcome to our show, ⑧Jatnna Recio! Could you please tell our audience a bit about yourself
W: Hi, everyone. I’m Jatnna Recio, a student. I’ve been involved in community service for several
years.
M: Great. ⑧What inspired you to work in community service Was it your parents’ encouragement
W: No. ⑧Kids kept getting hurt by broken glass in the park. That hit me hard. As vice-president of
student council, I realized cleaning isn’t just about making things look nice—it saves people. That’s
why I started doing this work.
M: ⑨How did the clean-ups work
W: ⑨We started at our school. Then we got permission to clean up the local parks and libraries.
We also encouraged people to clean up after themselves.
M: You’ve made a real difference. What have you learned from performing community service
work
W: ⑩Community service has taught me to be more responsible. I’ve learned to take care of my
own trash (超课标词汇) and encourage others to do the same.
Text 8
W: Hey, Jamie. I saw you riding your motorcycle this morning. It looked awesome.
M: Thanks, Linda! I’ve had this motorcycle for 3months. It handles well in any weather.
W: Cool! I want a motorcycle, too. How fast does it go
2
M: Not too fast, just right! The 500cc engine is smooth for city rides.
W: That’s good! Is it okay for long trips
M: Yes! Last week I rode 40 miles to a lake. The seat and footrests are comfortable. I had no
back pain.
W: Nice! Do you have any tips for someone who is new to motorcycle riding like me
M: Firstly, take a good safety course if you haven’t already. It’s useful for learning the basics and
gaining confidence. Plus, always remember to wear your helmet and gloves. Lastly, change the oil
every 3,000 miles and check the tire pressure weekly.
W: Thanks for your tips! I’m excited to start this new adventure.
Text 9
M: Rita, what have you been up to lately Any new interests
W: I’ve recently developed a passion for painting. It’s relaxing and a great way to express creativity.
What about you
M: I’ve always wanted to try painting but never really got around to it. I’ve been into hiking and
nature photography. Hiking is like a journey of self-discovery. Photography lets me see the world
in a new way, focusing on small and beautiful details.
W: That sounds amazing! How often do you go hiking Once a week
M: I try to go hiking twice a week. There’s a beautiful trail (超课标词汇) near my house. How
about your painting Do you take classes, or is it a self-taught thing
W: I’m self-taught. I watch online videos. Then I just let my imagination run wild and experiment
with different techniques and styles.
M: That’s so cool! Do you have a favorite subject matter for painting
W: Lately, I’ve been really drawn by still lifes. I love arranging fruits, flowers and old books to
create a harmonious composition. Sometimes I like painting portraits (超课标词汇). Hey, I just had
an idea! Maybe I could use some of your nature photos as inspiration for my next painting!
M: I’d be honored!
Text 10
W: Gill, a teacher from Essex, the UK, has raised more than 1 million for a cancer charity. Gill
broke a couple of records along the way—all while dressed as a polar bear. Her most recent record
was set at the Polar Night Marathon in Troms , Norway. In 4 hours, 58 minutes and 29 seconds, she
set the record for the fastest ice marathon while wearing a polar bear costume. The Polar Night
Marathon follows a route in darkness through a harsh (超课标词汇) mountain pass, and runners
have to deal with temperatures around -10℃. Despite the great difficulty, Gill had a smile on
her face at the end, because the 21,000 she raised for Cancer Research UK brought her total
fundraising amount to 1.96 million.
She first broke a record in a polar bear costume in 2016 while running the London Marathon.
She set the fastest marathon time in a full-body animal costume in 4 hours, 21 minutes and 8 seconds.
Her record was later broken by other runners. Explaining how this all began, Gill said she did all
this in memory of her dad, who died of cancer in 1999.

In a groundbreaking victory for youth environmental activism, five high school students
from Jiangsu province successfully sued a local packaging factory because of its pollution to
their community’s river. The determined teens, aged 16 to 18, spent six months gathering
evidence after noticing dead fish floating in the waterway near their school. Their investigation
began when chemistry club member Wu Bo discovered abnormal pH levels in the water during
a routine science project.
Led by 17-year-old Liang Fan, the team conducted scientific water tests using equipment
borrowed from their school lab. They also interviewed over 50 affected residents, including
fishermen who had lost their livelihoods, and documented the factory’s illegal waste discharge
through photographs and video recordings. “We stayed up late analyzing samples and studying
Articles 42 and 58 of the Environmental Protection Law.” Liang recalled. Their biology teacher,
Mr. Luan, helped them prepare the technical reports that became key proofs in court.
The historic judgment required the factory to:
Immediately stop all illegal discharges.
Pay 120,000 for river cleanup.
Fix 24/7 pollution monitoring systems.
Publicly report emission (排放) data monthly.
“This case proves young people can drive change when they understand and use the law,”
said environmental lawyer Zhou Yi, who volunteered to advise the students. “The verdict (判
决) has inspired similar youth-led actions across China, with over 20 student environmental
groups now monitoring local factories. Many schools have added legal education programs to
their courses following this pioneering case.”

When diagnosed (诊断) with final cancer, Professor Chen, a 42-year-old literature scholar
made an unusual decision—to film 1,862 lecture videos until his final days. His declaration
“Teaching is my life” during a weakly delivered yet deeply moving last lecture stimulated
nationwide reflection on life’s true value.
Modern neuroscience provides biological evidence for Chen’s choice. A 2023 Cambridge
study demonstrated that instructing others sets off 28% stronger dopamine (多巴胺) release
than personal achievements. This explains why Chen, despite physical condition, insisted on
grading papers—an act psychologists’ term “legacy (遗产) motivation.” His approach contrasts
with Western models like Professor Randy Pausch’s celebrated “Last Lecture,” which
emphasized realizing childhood dreams. Eastern traditions, particularly Confucian ideals,
prioritize generational wisdom pass-down over individual achievements.
The social impact was measurable. Chen’s online courses gained 90 million views, with
72% viewers aged 18-25. This popularity reveals a hunger for purpose beyond material success.
A Peking University survey on Chinese youth found 68% considered happiness the same as
wealth, yet 89% admitted feeling empty after attaining targets. Chen’s legacy challenges this
mindset; his worn-out lecture notes and student letters displayed at Nanjing University
Museum demonstrate how ordinary devotion builds up extraordinary meaning.
Ultimately, Chen redefined life value not through memorial but through multiplied
understanding—each student internalizing his teachings becomes a living continuation of his
intellectual journey. In our achievement-pursued era, his story whispers an essential truth:
significance often resides not in shining moments but in patient and daily investments in others’
growth.
28. What can we know about teaching others in the 2023 Cambridge study
A. It produces more dopamine than personal success.
B. It reduces pain for people with physical conditions.
C. It helps achieve childhood dreams in the long term.
D. It stimulates people’s reflection on life’s true value.
29. How is the difference between Chen’s actions and Western models presented
A. By explaining psychologists’ terms.
B. By comparing prioritized life values.
C. By listing different teaching methods.
D. By emphasizing respective drawbacks.
30. What can we infer about most young Chinese from Paragraph 3
A. They ignore traditional teaching methods.
B. They lose interest in materialistic success.
C. They feel unsatisfied after gaining wealth.
D. They prefer online courses to on-site class.
31. What does the author want to show by telling Professor Chen’s story
A. Scientific research is essential for meaningful education.
B. The value of teaching is determined by online popularity.
C. Lasting significance is from consistent devotion to others.
D. Individual legacy is best preserved in the public museums.

Whoever says fast food is unhealthy for the body and the environment hasn’t been
introduced to Sweetgreen, a chain restaurant committed to changing how we view food
production, consumption and waste.
In short, Sweetgreen represents a new era of fast food—one that focuses on healthy
ingredients (原料) and local community. It began August 1, 2007 when three recent college
graduates launched the flagship location in Washington D.C. Tired of having to choose between
slow but healthy food options and food that was fast but unhealthy, they made a commitment to
offering quality and convenient food as a better option.
Every step along the 16-year journey has been focused on one central principle. The
company explains in its mission statement, “Our core values guide our actions and we aim to
empower our customers, team members and partners to be a positive force on the food system.
That’s why we’re building a transparent (透明的) supply network.” Therefore, transparency is
at the very foundation of the company.
At the top of the list of items customers can expect is fresh ingredients that are locally
sourced and organic whenever possible. Even with that goal in mind, the words “organic” and
“local” were recently removed from the menu in an effort to honor full transparency in
instances where ingredients may have traveled further or come from a farm not officially
recognized as organic. To provide localized information, Sweetgreen restaurants post a source
board. Online, customers can see specials that highlight local fare, such as Lobster Roll Salad
in Boston, Garlic Chili Shrimp Bowl in Houston and Citrus Shrimp and Avocado in Miami.
In order to protect the environment, Sweetgreen focuses on selecting foods that are
regionally sourced and sustainably grown. The company also looks for agricultural operations
that rely on regenerative farming practices that benefit the environment and Sweetgreen
customers. By cooperating with local farmers who prioritize water conservation, the use of
renewable energy and organic methods, etc., Sweetgreen calculates a 50% reduction in the
footprint that comes from previous suppliers.
“At Sweetgreen, we have a saying: the choices we make about what we eat, where it
comes from, and how it’s prepared have a direct and powerful impact on the health of
individuals, communities and the environment. Today, with the future of the planet at risk,
these words have never rang more true,” said the company.
32. What problem about food did Sweetgreen aim to solve initially
A. The complex process of production.
B. The time-consumption of packaging.
C. The trade-off between quality and accessibility.
D. The high costs between transportation and sale.
33. Why did Sweetgreen remove the words “organic” and “local” from its menu
A. To cut food sourcing expenses. B. To promote local fresh specials.
C. To simplify the menu readability. D. To highlight the central principle.
34. Which word can best describe Sweetgreen
A. Conservative. B. Conventional. C. Innovative. D. Invariable

35. What can be the best title for the text
A. Sweetgreen: Popularizing Fast-Food Restaurants
B. Sweetgreen: Pioneering Sustainable Food Practices

Earthquakes are unpredictable natural disasters that can cause dramatic damage in seconds.
__36 Proper preparation and knowing what to do during and after an earthquake can
significantly increase your chances of staying safe. This guide helps you prepare, respond, and
recover effectively.
Before the quake
One important way to prepare for a quake is to try to make your home safe. The stuff
inside your home is just as important as the walls themselves. Take a tour of each room to look
for things that could fall or break. 37 Move large or heavy objects to lower shelves,
install latches (门闩) on cupboards, and secure any large appliances like water heaters.
When the shaking starts
38 In many situations that means remembering three actions: drop, cover, and hold.
Drop: Get down on your hands and knees immediately. This position protects you from
falling but still allows you to move if necessary.
Cover: Place your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) underneath a strong
table or desk.
Hold: Stay put until the shaking stops. Be prepared to move with your shelter if the
shaking shifts it around.
After the shaking calms
Even after the ground grows still, the danger is not necessarily over. As the Earth settles
from its quake, it can produce a series of smaller quakes known as aftershocks. 39 The
first quake is then called a foreshock, and the second is called a main shock.
Still, once the shaking calms, it’s time to start getting ready for more. First, check for
injuries. Next, check the gas and electric lines, and turn them off if you can do so safely. And if
you are inside a heavily damaged structure, get yourself and others out as soon as possible. If
you’re trapped, stay calm. Protect your mouth, nose, and eyes from the dust. Make noise to get
responders’ attention. 40

Betty had founded the “Harmony Helpers”, a community service group aimed at helping
the less fortunate. Their latest initiative was to rebuild a run-down playground.
One evening, at a Harmony Helper’s meeting, Jeff, a long-time member said, “Betty, that
playground is located in such a tough area. Are you sure we can make a difference ”
Betty responded, “Jeff, it’s in those areas where we can make the most impact. Remember,
it’s not just about the playground, it’s about building a community.”
But not all was easy. They faced numerous challenges–funding, city permits, and even
groups of older kids who claimed the playground as their hangout spot.
One day, as Betty was clearing the playground, a teenage boy named Miguel approached
her. With a challenging tone, he asked, “What are you doing here This is our spot.”
Betty replied calmly, “We’re trying to build a safe space for kids to play. Don’t you want
that ”
Miguel sneered (嗤笑), “What’s it to you Why not help somewhere else ”
“Every child deserves a place to be a child. I never had that, and I don’t want others to go
through the same.” responded Betty.
Miguel’s tough look softened for a moment. “Fine, but you won’t last a week here.” He
stormed off.
The next day, Betty and her team arrived at the playground to find the swings they’d put
up destroyed.
But Betty wouldn’t back down. Instead, she organized a community meeting. Surprisingly,
Miguel turned up. Through heartfelt talks and stories from residents, many began to see the
value of the playground project.
After the meeting, Miguel approached Betty. “Listen,” he began hesitantly, “I might have
been wrong. I’m willing to help. But you need to understand our side of the story.”
Betty listened as Miguel shared how he used to play on those rusty swings with his
grandfather as a child, creating cherished memories. The playground had become a memorial
of sorts for him.
Betty’s heart went out to Miguel. “What if we rebuild the swing area instead of removing
it A space where memories meet fresh starts.”
Miguel nodded, “I’d like that.”
Soon, Miguel and his friends became part of the Harmony Helpers.
On the day of the playground’s opening ceremony, the entire neighborhood turned up.
