What type of book do you like I prefer the book about Chinese culture. Here is an excerpt (选段).
The dragon is a great animal in Chinese culture. It brings the wind and rain. It is said that every year on the second day of the second lunar (阴历的) month, the dragon wakes up from its winter sleep and raises its head. Because of this, the day is called “Dragon Head-raising Day” (Longtaitou). This year, it falls on February21.
Old people believed that after Longtaitou, there would be more rain. And rain is very important to farming. So they thought Longtaitou was the start of spring and farming.
People have many ways to celebrate the Longtaitou festival. The most popular one is to have a haircut. Many believe that a haircut during the first lunar month may bring bad luck to your uncles—mainly your mother’s brothers. They hope getting a haircut on Longtaitou gets rid of (摆脱) bad luck.
Among Chinese people’s festival traditions, there is always a place for food. During the Longtaitou festival, people eat food named after dragons. Noodles are called dragon’s beard (longxu). Dumplings are dragon’s ears (long’er). And spring rolls are dragon’s scales (longlin).
People also hold activities like dragon dancing on the day. In some places in Shandong province, people make dragon lanterns too. Small reed (芦苇) boats go down the rivers and carry the lanterns, which stand for people’s best wishes and good luck.

On November 16, 2024, Evan Kail arrived in China, greeted by the warm smiles of the Chinese people. In the eyes of the Chinese, he has become a symbol of friendship and justice.
Before this visit, Evan became well-known in China. He discovered an old photo album. To his surprise, the album was filled with pictures that described a very important part of Chinese history—the difficult times during World War II. Selflessly, he donated this precious album to the Chinese Consulate—General in Chicago (中国驻芝加哥总领事馆). To express thanks for his kind deed, the consulate presented him with a national porcelain (国瓷) gift, an honor only shared by greats like John Rabe (拉贝) and Norman Bethune (白求恩).
Evan’s journey in China has clear aims. Culturally, he looks forward to experiencing the unique charm of China. Historically, during his one-month tour, he will visit famous cities in China, such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Nanjing, which are rich in relevant history and hold great appeal for him .
In Beijing, Evan had an amazing experience. One cold morning, he was tired of his travels, he made his way to Tian’anmen Square for the raising of the national flag. People recognized him in the crowd. A kind-hearted young man from Huai’an, Jiangsu Province, saw Evan shivering (哆嗦) and offered him his military overcoat (军大衣). This simple yet moving gesture deeply touched Evan.
Evan Kail’s China journey is filled with such heart-warming moments. It not only strengthens the cultural bond between the two countries but also reminds us of the importance of respecting history, upholding justice, being kind-hearted, and promoting international friendship.

Iron Flower Forging (打铁花) is a really wonderful traditional art in China. It started in the Northern Song Dynasty. At first, it was just for workers’ ceremonies (典礼), but later it became a show that many people love, especially in places like Hebei, Henan and Shanxi. Now it appears everywhere in China.
Before the big show, the “iron flower masters” prepare carefully. First, they have to find an open space. It must be far away from things that can easily catch fire and have fences around to keep everyone safe.
When it’s dark, the show starts. The masters put the pig iron into the super hot pot. By pulling the bellows (风箱), the fire gets bigger and the pig iron melts (融化) fast. When it turns into bright red and hot liquid (液态的) iron, here comes the exciting part.
One master scoops (迅速铲出) up a spoonful of the really hot liquid iron and throws it up high. At the same time, another master hits the flying liquid iron hard with a wooden board. Right away, the liquid iron bursts (爆发) open like beautiful fireworks. It can look like shooting stars or big flowers. People watching always get excited and cheer loudly.
This Iron Flower Forging is not only an art form but also carries the working people’s hope for better lives. It’s a special thing that comes from their wisdom and courage (智慧与勇气).
26.How many people at least work together to make the Iron Flower
27.How do the masters make the pig iron melt fast

Grain Rain (谷雨) is the sixth of the Twenty-four Solar Terms (节气) in the Chinese lunar calendar (阴历), which falls on April 20 this year. As the last solar term in spring, this time sees the temperature rise and rainfall increase, creating a good environment for plants and animals. Grain Rain is still linked with modern agriculture (农业). As it links grain with rain, it is good for the growth of crops. For farmers, it is a good time to plant.
It might not be so well-known that in Chinese history an actual “grain rain” was recorded in the story of Cang Jie, who invented (发明) the first Chinese characters (汉字). Cang Jie made some Chinese characters from observing the tracks of birds and animals. After his great invention, grains started to pour down from the sky.
The Grain Rain Day has become a day to remember Cang Jie and the invention of the Chinese language and April 20 has been designated as the annual UN Chinese Language Day since 2010. Chinese characters are a treasure of Chinese people, the thousands of years of Chinese culture, and an important symbol of cultural identity (文化身份).

30.Why is Grain Rain linked with modern agriculture
31.Who invented Chinese characters according to the passage

Classical Chinese gardens are purposely designed so that no matter where you stand, you can never see the whole thing at once. The purpose of a classical Chinese garden is to let people enjoy nature. Besides, the classical Chinese gardens have another purpose—to inspire (激发) artistic expression like poetry, literature or painting. Nearly all Chinese gardens have the things mentioned below.
Water is a necessary thing that no Chinese garden can go without. Water in a garden typically symbolizes (象征) a lake or even the ocean. Water can even symbolize life, movement and dreams.
Large rocks typically symbolize mountains. Many of the rocks in Suzhou gardens come from Lake Tai, shaped by the flow of water over thousands of years. Smaller rocks are often on show in fancy halls. This shows the appreciation the garden owners had of these rocks.
There can’t be a garden without plants. Different plants have different meanings. Bamboo, for example, stands for strength. Flowers, meanwhile, add color to a garden, with each carrying a symbolic meaning of its own.
Gates in different shapes divide a garden into different parts. The most common type of gate, the moon gate, is simply a circle. Windows are placed throughout the garden to allow the passage of light. You can also get a look at some interesting trees or rocks on the other side from the windows.
In Chinese gardens, pavilions (亭) are usually placed in some of the best viewing places. In the past, pavilions were also used as places for garden owners to reflect, paint and write poems.
In fact, classical Chinese gardens are in some ways very much like traditional Chinese landscape paintings. And all of the parts show the importance of nature in Chinese culture.
34.What does bamboo mean in a classical Chinese garden
35.What is the purpose of classical Chinese gardens
36.What do you think of the Chinese gardens Why

Today, teenagers in Suzhou can learn about their city’s history in fun new ways. Museums and artists are using simple online tools to share traditions.
Suzhou Museum now has online lantern-making for festivals. Students click to choose colors and patterns, making digital (数字的) lanterns while hearing stories about their meanings. For example, red lanterns stand for good luck, and rabbit shapes connect to the Moon Festival tales. Another project lets students take online walks along old streets. They can “walk” through Pingjiang Road and see how silk shops looked 500 years ago. Old photos pop up to compare (比较) the past and present. For Kunqu Opera, there are free short videos teaching easy moves like “holding a fan”. Each video lasts 3-5 minutes, perfect for busy students.
A school survey shows that 60% of students like learning this way because “it’s like playing a game”. One boy said, “I finally understand why our city is called the Venice of China after the online canal tour!” But 70% of grandparents say real-life activities are better. “Sitting together to make lanterns is happier than doing it alone online,” said Mr. Zhang, a 68-year-old cook. He added, “We laugh and share stories while our hands are busy.”
Teachers advise mixing online and real-life activities. For example, visit Hanshan Temple first, touch the ancient walls and smell the incense (香气), then use a phone app to listen to stories about its 1,000-year-old bell. Some schools even organize “culture days” where students try online tools in class, and then make real lanterns at home.
37.Where can students make digital lanterns online
38.According to the survey, what are the different opinions on online culture tours between students and old people
39.Which way do you like better for learning culture—with online tools or through real-life activities Why

Which animals are smart Your answer may be dogs, monkeys, or elephants. Now, there is one more animal that can be added to the list: sheep.
Scientists from Cambridge University said that people can educate sheep to identify (识别) familiar (熟悉的) human faces, the BBC reported.
Before testing, scientists showed the sheep pictures of four famous people, like former US president Barack Obama and British actress Emma Watson. Then the sheep went into a room with two computer screens. Each screen showed a human face. One screen showed a famous person and the other screen showed a random (随机的) person. The sheep often walked toward the screen with the famous person’s face.
After finding out the animals’ ability to identify famous people, researchers (研究人员) gave them a new task. They wanted to see if the farm animals could correctly identify the same people from different directions. The animals were still able to know them, though they were a bit slower than before.
Finally, the researchers wanted to know if the sheep could identify their trainers. Photos of their trainers were randomly shown on screens along with a number of unfamiliar faces. This time, nobody taught the sheep first, but they picked out the photos very easily.
The results show that the animals’ face-identification abilities are very close to those of monkeys and humans. Face identification is a difficult process. But sheep are very clever. When they see other sheep, they use this process to know one another.
The researchers said it might be interesting in the future to find out if sheep can identify different facial expressions made by humans.

And in another comic, Cao Siyu made it clear how people from different cultures express love. She wrote below the comic, “Chinese people are not used to saying ‘I love you, Mum’. Instead, they show their love in actions.”

The natural world is filled with living things. Living things start out weak and small and slowly grow strong and big. You are a living thing. Each of your classmates is a living thing. Flowers, grass and trees are living things, too. Bees, ants, doves, dogs and cats—these are all living things.
All living things need food and water to grow. Think about yourself. When you are hungry, you need to eat. You eat fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. They can help you grow big and strong. You drink water when you are thirsty. Now think about a tree. When a tree is hungry, it gets food from the soil. Trees drink water, too.
We are different in some ways, but all living things are connected. We all live on the same planet, and we depend on each other. If we pollute the rivers and oceans, fish may get sick or even die. Some birds live off fish. If the birds eat the sick or dead fish, they may die off. Nature is a balance between all the living things on the planet. If one species (物种) dies off, then another species may die off, followed by another, and another…
We should respect the earth and all the living things on it.

It seems that everyone tells lies (谎话)—well, not big lies, but “white lies”. Telling white lies is not really that bad. Most of the time, people do it because they want to protect friendship or they don’t want to do something. For me, living in Canada for 25 years, China is a new world. This spring, I chose Yangzhou to be my first trip around China. It was like love at first sight. At the age of 15, I bought a book of poems about Tang Dynasty. Through it, I heard of Yangzhou for the first time. I found a poem written by Li Bai very interesting. The name of the poem is “Sailing to Yangzhou in March”.
Yangzhou has a long history. In the old town, there are many old streets and houses. It’s best to visit the city in spring. Spring paints the city in bright colors.
Yangzhou has beautiful gardens. Among them, the Slender West Lake, one of the biggest attractions in the city, was my first stop. The park is very beautiful. What a shame I simply could spend half a day!
My next stop was He Garden, one of the best protected gardens in Yangzhou. It was once owned by the family of He Zhidao in Qing Dynasty. He Zhidao successfully brought Chinese and Western architectural (建筑的) features together.
At last, I went to the Grand Canal. I took a boat trip along the part of the canal in Yangzhou.
Luckily, my two-day trip to Yangzhou was filled with pleasure and wonder. It made me hungry for more China.
