Places Where You Can Watch Lava(岩浆) Flow
Erta Ale, Ethiopia
Erta Ale is Ethiopia’ s most active volcano with a lava lake in the volcano’ s crater(火山口). The journey to Erta Ale begins with a five-hour drive through the desert in difficult wind and sand conditions. From the base of Erta Ale, tourists make a three-hour tough hike to the crater, where they watch the lava, which has been flowing away since 1906.Mount Nyiragongo, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Living in the Canadian Rockies offers me many chances to enjoy quietness and explore nature. Just an hour outside the city, I can find myself in the wilderness, far from cellphone signals and other people. This wild area is home to various animals, including coyotes(丛林狼) and wolves. I have a dog named Yuni, who is a FinnishLapphund, a breed (品种) from northern Scandinavia. My ancestors, on the other hand, came from southern Scandinavia.
Winter in the Rockies starts early, with snow often falling by autumn. WhileYuni and I enjoy the summer warmth, we both love the winter. Yuni, born for cold climates, feels at home in the snow. During our winter walks, I notice the visual beauty of the landscape, while Yuni relies more on his sense of smell. Sometimes, we see wolf tracks next to Yuni’ s, and though we' ve never seen a wolf up close, we often hear their howls(长嚎) nearby.
Cultural stories often describe wolves as dangerous, and some locals warn me thatYuni and I could be in danger. However, Yuni shows no fear. His breed was developed to protect reindeer from predators(捕食性动物). This makes me think about the long history of humans and dogs living together.
The relationship between humans and dogs goes back tens of thousands of years. While scientists debate the exact details about dog-wolf relationship, it's clear that dogs and wolves share a common ancestor. Today, the differences between wolves and dogs are more than just genetic (基因的). For example, humans and Neanderthals were very similar genetically, but they were still different species. Some researchers believe that humans survived the Ice Age because they formed close bonds with early dogs, while Neanderthals did not.
Living in the Rockies with Yuni gets me thinking about my existence and how everything in the world gets where they are now.
24. What is the author's life in the Canadian Rockies like

B. Neanderthals were an ancient human-like species.
C. Scientists have detailed evidence for dog-wolf relationship.
D. Humans have kept pet dogs for tens of thousands of years.
27. What conclusion can be drawn from the text
A. Human-dog bond is ancient and special.
B. Winter is the best season to observe animals.
C. It's dangerous to be cast away in the Rockies.
D. Living in the wilderness benefits mental health.

In the neighborhood of Wudaokou in Beijing, near top universities, stands theHuaqing Commercial Building, inside which, among shops and cafés, lies a bar called the Universe Lounge. During the day, the Universe Lounge is a quiet café where students study and chat. But at night, it transforms into a lively space for free academic lectures and discussions. Topics range from Chinese history to the symbolism in the classic novel Journey to the West. University students just show up and join the conversation.
Li Yiting, a 21-year-old theater student, is a regular here. She recalls her first visit, where the topic was Flamenco, a traditional Spanish dance. At first, it felt like a typical lecture, but soon the speaker invited everyone to stand up and stomp(跺脚) to the music. “That was when I fell in love with this kind of event,” Li said. “It's about interaction, not just listening.”
The Universe Lounge is part of a growing trend in China called academic bars, which combine informal socializing with intellectual(智力的) discussions. The trend started in Shanghai with a small bar called Bunker, which began hosting free lectures in May 2022. Luo, the founder of Bunker, explained, “In a big city, it's hard to meet like-minded people. But in a bar, conversations happen naturally.”
Bunker's events quickly became popular. Since then, similar bars have opened in cities like Beijing, Guangzhou, and Xi’ an. These bars offer a mix of lectures, seminars(研讨会), and informal drinks. Some even combine lectures with the trend of home bars, where strangers meet in snug settings.
The idea of academic bars originated in the UK with SciBars, where scientists discuss their work in pubs. But in China, these bars focus more on social sciences, humanities, and arts. Topics at Bunker have included social anxiety, the history of jazz, and the development of Shanghai's parks.
For many young Chinese, academic bars offer a temporary escape from the pressures of school and job hunting. “This bar is a safe haven(港湾) for dreamers like me,” Li said.

From Padmé Amidala in Star Wars to Shakespeare's King Lear, heartbreak has been a dramatic theme for centuries. In both fiction and reality, the concept of dying from a broken heart has long captured our imagination. However, it wasn't until the1960s that doctors began documenting real cases of this phenomenon. With advancements in medical imaging, researchers have been able to study the hearts of patients suffering from what is now known as takotsubo(心碎综合征).
The condition was first described by Japanese doctors in 1990. The left ventricle(心室) of the heart balloons out. The ballooned shape reminded Japanese doctors of a takotsubo, a type of round pot used for catching a small animal called lobsters. So in1990, doctors at Hiroshima City Hospital proposed the term takotsubo to describe the condition. What causes takotsubo remains a mystery, but several theories exist. One theory suggests that a very sad event causes a sharp increase of stress hormones. The left ventricle is loaded with receptors for these chemicals, causing it to balloon out.Additionally, reduced levels of estrogen (雌激素), may play a role, as most cases occur in older women.
Dr. Peter Rahko, a doctor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, recalls a case.An elderly woman was called to a hospital to identify her son's body after a car accident. Within minutes, she experienced severe chest pain and collapsed. Rahko examined her heart. “Her arteries(动脉) were totally normal,” he says, “but her heart function was dramatically reduced.” This is to say the patient lacks traditional risk factors for heart disease.
Despite its severity, takotsubo is usually short-lived and rarely causes death, with only about 4% of cases resulting in death. Most patients recover fully within 10 days, and some even within 48 to 72 hours. Often, basic medical support, such as blood-thinning drugs, allows the heart to recover on its own.
32. Why are Star Wars and King Lear mentioned in paragraph 1
A. To highlight the history of medical research.
B. To interest the readers in the topic of the text.
C. To inspire the readers to explore literary works.
D. To introduce a discussion over medical treatment.
33. What is primarily affected by takotsubo
A. A ventricle. B. Blood. C. Estrogen receptors. D. Arteries.
34. What is takotsubo named after
A. A Japanese doctor. B. A stress hormone.
C. A round container. D. A part of the heart.
35. What does the author imply in the last two paragraphs
A. The elderly woman died of takotsubo.
B. The elderly woman collapsed due to reduced heart function.
C. People with takotsubo tend to live a shorter life.
D. People hold wrong ideas about the severity of heart problems.

Traditional methods of payment like coins, bills and cards take raw materials to make and energy to transport. They cause pollution when they are worn out and need to be collected and destroyed. 36 But researchers are studying whether they' re more environmentally friendly.
Digital currencies(货币), for example, exist only online. Their impacts depend on how they' re set up. Bitcoin(比特币) and various other so-called cryptocurrencies(加密货币) have huge environmental impacts. They rely on big, spread-out networks of computer users to keep the systems secure. Under those systems, cryptocurrency“miners” use specialized software and hardware to work. The biggest mining networks can use more energy than some countries. Mining businesses also replace their computers often. 37
In contrast, there are now some central-bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Agovernment authority sets the value and issues this online currency. 38
Early CBDCs include Cambodia’ s Bakong, the Bahamas’ Sand Dollar and the ECdollar DCash system used by several Eastern Caribbean countries. Other countries that have introduced or run pilot programs for CBDCs include China, Nigeria and SouthAfrica.
39 These countries are exploring how that form of money might work with banking systems. They are also taking into account the impact on the environment. 40 There might even be some energy savings if CBDCs make some other parts of the money system obsolete(淘汰的). Physical transportation of cash could go down, for example, and fewer banks might be needed.
A. That, too, creates lots of waste.
B. They don't want it to be like Bitcoin.
C. All these lead to huge costs of labor and money.
D. Many more countries are looking into digital currency.
E. People can then spend the digital money using a phone app.

The classroom was filled with the usual sounds— pencils scratching(沙沙作响) on paper, and the occasional sound of pages turning. It was an exam day, and I should have been focused, ready, but my mind kept racing to places I didn't want it to go.
For years, I had been the model student— top grades and perfect attendance. But in eleventh grade, everything changed. I was suffering from bipolar disorder, a mental illness. It wasn't the disorder that scared me the most; it was the fear of what people would think if they knew. No one saw the constant shifts in my mood— the manic(躁狂的) highs where I felt unstoppable, and the stressing lows where I could barely do anything. I tried very hard to hide this. I didn't want anyone to see how much I was struggling.
After the exam, I was walking in the passage. “Lina,” came a voice from behind me. It was Mr. Thompson, my homeroom teacher, who invigilated the exam(监考).I straightened up, trying to look calm. “Are you okay ” Mr. Thompson asked, his tone calm but with concern. “I'm fine,” I said, forcing a smile. It wasn't convincing. Icould tell Mr. Thompson wasn't buying it.
He walked me to a bench (长椅) outside of the building and we sat down on it. “Iknow something’ s going on. You don't have to hide it from me.” His eyes locked onto mine. I swallowed, my heart racing. I wanted to say something— anything to avoid the conversation— but the words wouldn't come. “You' ve been different lately,” he continued. “Your focus is off. You’ re either too high or too low. You don’ t have to pretend like everything's fine. And I don't want you to handle it alone.”
His words touched me deeper than I expected. No one had ever said that to me before. Everyone else expected me to be fine, to keep pushing through. But Mr.Thompson— he saw me. “I don't want anyone to see me as weak,” I said before I could stop myself.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Mr. Thompson's expression softened, and he placed a gentle hand on my shoulder.
For the first time in months, I didn't feel entirely alone.

One possible version:
Dear Jack,
I hope you' re doing well! Last Sunday, my family and I went to the cinema to watch Ne Zha 2,a very wonderful Chinese animated movie. The movie continues the story of Ne Zha, a rebellious young hero with incredible powers, as he faces new challenges and battles to protect his loved ones. The animation was excellent, and the storyline was both exciting and emotional.
I was deeply moved by the movie's themes of courage, family, and bravery. It was a great experience to watch it with my family, and we all enjoyed it. I highly recommend you should watch it if you get the chance!
Yours,
Li Hua

Mr. Thompson's expression softened, and he placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. “Lina, asking for help isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of strength. You' ve been carrying this burden alone for too long, and it's okay to let someone in.” His words felt like a lifeline, something Ihadn't realized I needed until that moment. “I just … I don't know how to talk about it,” Iadmitted, my voice barely above a whisper. He nodded, understanding in his eyes. “You don't have to figure it all out right now. But please know that I'm here, and we can take it one step at a time.”
For the first time in months, I didn't feel entirely alone. Mr. Thompson suggested we meet after school to talk more, and I agreed, though I had butterflies in my stomach. The rest of the day passed quickly, my mind racing with thoughts of what I might say. When the final bell rang, I found myself walking to his office, my heart pounding. He was sitting at his desk, looking up with a warm smile as I entered. “Take a seat,” he said gently. I sat down and finallyI began to open up about the storm inside me and our talk that day was life-changing. Feeling cared and understood, I found my bipolar disorder more manageable and my school life more fulfilling.

W: Well, it's about the passing of time. It's a very emotional piece, and when Jude and his mom sang it together, it was just magical.
M: It must be even more emotional when sung by an adult child and his aging parent. Has the video received a lot of attention
W: Absolutely, it's blown up online. Jude shared more about his mom, and it turns out she used to be an opera singer. That explains the incredible sound.
M: Where can I find the video
W: It's now available on all music streaming services.
