2.(2025 江西模拟) Mike said the 10 that he paid for an anti﹣snoring (防止打鼾的) pillow last summer would have been better spent on bread.Still,it seemed like an opportunity too good to miss at that time,a tiny price to pay to give his wife good nights and to save him from sleep divorce.
However, the silent night it promised never materialized and he's now frequently banished to the living room. The pillow meanwhile is in a landfill somewhere, along with countless others he imagines, purchased by people who were sold a dream.
James Smith,a sleep expert, sympathizes. He warns people to be careful of the claims some pillow dealers make.Pillows claiming to be anti﹣snoring don't stop snoring in itself. They are designed to reposition the head and neck to open the airways, but it is worth noting that 67% of snorers will stop or reduce snoring simply by lying on their side,so it may be more advantageous to find "good pillows" that could optimize (优化) sleep in a side sleeping position,James Smith suggested.
Those "good pillows" should be comfortable and should preserve a good sleep position. If they can keep a person on his side, they will probably help reduce snoring.Different sizes and types of pillows are better for different sleepers.A side sleeper should choose a pillow that fills the gap and keeps their head in position. However, for back sleepers,a pillow should fill the space between the shoulders and the back of the head. This will always mean a thinner pillow than that of a side sleeper,as it is a smaller gap to fill.
Given how individual a choice of pillows is,the most sensible strategy is to try before you commit to buying. And this shouldn't be a quick squeeze (捏) in the bed shop.Try it for as long as possible. Many pillows now come with a trial period. Is it still comfortable after 5,10 or even 15 minutes?
(1)How did Mike feel after buying an anti﹣snoring pillow?
A.Regretful.
B.Secure.
C.Confused.
D.Worried.
(2)What does the underlined word "banished" in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Taken in.
B.Relied on.
C.Called on.
D.Driven out.
(3)How do "good pillows" suggested by James Smith help snorers?
A.By keeping side sleepers from lying on their side.
B.By supporting the body correctly for side sleepers.
C.By using comfortable materials as a sleeping aid.
D.By using thinner sizes to improve quality of sleep.
(4)What is the key advice given for choosing a pillow?
A.Feel it briefly in the store.
B.Choose one with good flexibility.
C.Test it extensively before buying.
D.Check its comfort after a trial period.
3.(2025 河南模拟) On the green island of Yakushima,Japan, two species, the Japanese macaque(猕猴)monkeys and sika deer, have formed an amazing and unusual inter﹣species relationship. The macaques ride on the backs of the deer, cleaning their fur as they travel around the island. In turn, the deer feed on fruit thrown by the macaques and even consume their droppings at night, effectively cleaning their sleeping grounds. This behaviour is far from accidental;the two species actively communicate and signal to one another to start these actions.
Prof.Cédric Sueur,an expert in animal behaviour at the University of Strasbourg, suggests that the macaques and deer exhibit a level of deep understanding of each other. This phenomenon highlights a concept known as "co﹣culture",which refers to social learning across species, not just within them.Typically, animals learn behaviours from members of their own species, like bumblebees unlocking puzzle boxes. However,Sueur's research indicates that some species, like the macaques and deer, can learn from and influence each other's actions.
This type of social learning has significant implications for animal behaviour,as it allows for the faster development of behaviours.Prof.Sueur's theory of co﹣culture is supported by other examples, such as ravens(渡鸦)following wolves in Yellowstone to find their leftover as food and bats in Costa Rica sharing their habitats with birds and hunting together.Prof.Jean﹣Baptiste Leca,a biological expert, points out that while the concept of non﹣human animal culture was once not accepted,it is now gaining recognition.
In spite of the growing evidence, researchers like Prof.Dorothy Fragaszy acknowledge that proving co﹣culture remains a challenge.Dr.Michael Huffman,an animal expert, emphasises that this idea requires further study to fully understand how inter﹣species behaviours develop. This concept not only reshapes our understanding of animal behaviour but also challenges our opinions of human uniqueness in social learning.
(1)What role do the deer play in the cooperation with the macaques?
A.Food provider.
B.Means of transport.
C.Safeguard.
D.Caregiver.
(2)Why are bumblebees mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To offer a similar example.
B.To help understand co﹣culture.
C.To highlight animals' intelligence.
D.To imply that insects are different.
(3)What is the significance of proving co﹣culture?
A.It shows the study of animals never ends.
B.It proves animals are superior to humans.
C.It confirms human uniqueness in social learning.
D.It provides new perspectives on animal behaviour.
(4)What is the main idea of the text?
A.Animal behaviours are inborn.
B.Animals can be trained by humans.
C.Different species can learn from each other.
D.Animals socialise within their species.
4.(2025 长安区校级模拟) According to the results of Harvard University's latest international survey, the Chinese public's satisfaction with the CPC exceeds 90 per cent.' On 12 July,Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying tweeted a strong rebuttal to U.S.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's slanderous remarks about the CPC,citing a new Harvard University survey report as strong evidence.
The report is Understanding CCP Resilience:A Long﹣Term Survey of Public Opinion in China, released inJuly 2020 by the Ashe Center for Democratic Governance (民主治理) and Innovation at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
The 18﹣page report was authored by three Kennedy School experts who wrote the survey after conducting eight surveys in China between 2003 and 2016,with face﹣to﹣face conversations with more than 31,000 urban and rural Chinese residents to track Chinese citizens' satisfaction with Chinese government at all levels over time. The report concludes that Chinese people's satisfaction with the government has risen almost across the board since2003,especially among those in inland and impoverished areas.
The survey report shows that from 2003 to 2016,the Chinese people's satisfaction with the government at the central, provincial (municipality directly under the central government),city, county and township levels has increased.in 2016,the Chinese people's satisfaction with the central government was as high as 93.1 per cent, and the people's satisfaction with the other three levels of government exceeded 70 per cent, while the satisfaction with the government at the provincial (municipality directly under the central government),city, county and township levels was 81.7 percent,respectively,73.9% and 70.2% respectively.Overall, the higher the level of government, the higher the level of public satisfaction. In addition,in terms of the increase in satisfaction, the township government has seen the most significant increase in public satisfaction, from 43.6% in 2003 to 70.2%.
Concluding the report, the researchers note that by 2016,the Chinese government was more popular than at any time in the past 20 years. On average, the Chinese government provides much better and fairer healthcare, social welfare and other basic public services than it did when the survey began in 2003.Moreover,when it comes to corruption, the decline in satisfaction from 2009 to 2011 has been completely reversed. The public seems to be generally in favour of the anti﹣corruption campaign. On the environment, even though many residents expressed dissatisfaction, most respondents expect the situation to improve in the coming years.
As Hua Chunying said at the foreign ministry's regular press conference, " The report concludes that the CPC's ruling foundation is solid, and its resilience stems from the broad support of the public.According to this survey report, the Chinese people's satisfaction rate with the Chinese government is higher than at any time in the past few decades, and they generally believe that the Chinese government's ability and efficiency (效率) in governing is greater than at any time in the past, and in fact the Chinese people's satisfaction rate with the central government is over 93 per cent.I think that such a high approval rating(支持率) is probably something that those politicians in the United States are incredibly envious of but can't reach. This in itself is actually the best and most powerful response to the vicious attacks on the Chinese Communist Party by individual politicians such as Pompeo. "
(1)What is the theme of the Harvard University survey report?
A.The comparison of public services in different countries.

5.(2025 泉州模拟) Many people encourage competition and focus on success."Giving up"is frowned upon.We are overjoyed at stories of people who persevered and succeeded.Friends and colleagues always encourage you to keep trying."If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.""Follow your dream!Winners never quit!"
Perseverance is indeed important,to a limit. However, never take it too far.For one thing, goals and dreams might be beyond reach.Stories of achieving childhood dreams through perseverance might be uplifting, but they suffer from"selection bias".Put simply, they are not informative, because nobody tells stories about the many people who persevered but failed after wasting a good part of their lives. It is indeed frustrating if you follow an unrealistic dream. For another, every road taken means another road is not taken. An unrealistic goal means missing out on other opportunities. What if everybody with the childhood dream of becoming an astronaut persistently kept trying forever?Winners always wisely choose what to quit and what to pursue.
Recent studies have shown that being able to give up some goals and dreams and redirect your energy toward more reasonable ones is important for mental well﹣being and leads to higher quality of life in the long term. The psychological term is"goal disengagement".If you are currently devoting too much time and effort to an unattainable goal, here are some hints that might help.
First,do not tie a goal to your identity.Nobody can be defined by a single goal or interest.Besides, disengage from a goal but keep some of the effort. It's called "turning it into a hobby".Few stamp and coin collectors desire to become professionals, yet many enjoy collecting.Last and most important,do not think of giving up as a failure, but as a choice.Your time is limited.Try new activities, rediscover previous interests, and revise your ambitions.Be honest with yourself about your chances, and choose the goals that best suit you.And remember that, when you give up a goal, you do not fail. You make a choice to free up your time for other possibilities.
(1)What result may "selection bias"bring to people?
A.Setting self﹣limit.
B.Giving up more easily.
C.Misjudging the situation.
D.Ignoring successful stories.
(2)How can people benefit from"goal disengagement"?
A.By motivating their desire for success.
B.By gaining a sense of self﹣satisfaction.
C.By telling easy goals from difficult goals
D.By saving energy to focus on practical goals.
(3)Which of the following may the author agree with?
A.Accepting failure with ease does make sense.
B.One can make a hobby out of an unattainable goal.
C.Turn to professionals when realizing personal goals.
D.Choosing a goal is more challenging than realizing it.
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Identity Crisis:Be True to Yourself
B.Goals or Hobbies:Make Your Choice
C.Never Say Never:The Key to Success
D.Winners Do Quit Be Wise About Your Goals

Young children typically draw and sing and dance without worrying about their abilities.Adults, however, often have complex feelings about art and art making. They begin to evaluate the quality of their art instead of focusing on self﹣expression itself.(4) However, art therapists can guide people in expressing themselves without concerning whether their artwork is technically brilliant,so that they can connect or reconnect with the artworks that help them deal with life challenges.
What are art therapists' superpower? They can channel dangerous thoughts into imaginative artworks. For instance, people with violent tendencies might let out their anger by hitting another human being.

A.Food provider.
B.Means of transport.
C.Safeguard.
D.Caregiver.
(2)Why are bumblebees mentioned in paragraph 2? B
A.To offer a similar example.
B.To help understand co﹣culture.
C.To highlight animals' intelligence.
D.To imply that insects are different.
(3)What is the significance of proving co﹣culture? D
A.It shows the study of animals never ends.
B.It proves animals are superior to humans.
C.It confirms human uniqueness in social learning.
D.It provides new perspectives on animal behaviour.
(4)What is the main idea of the text? C

A.The comparison of public services in different countries.
B.The change of the Chinese public's attitude towards environmental protection.

A.Setting self﹣limit.
B.Giving up more easily.
C.Misjudging the situation.
D.Ignoring successful stories.
(2)How can people benefit from"goal disengagement"? D
A.By motivating their desire for success.
B.By gaining a sense of self﹣satisfaction.
C.By telling easy goals from difficult goals
D.By saving energy to focus on practical goals.
(3)Which of the following may the author agree with? B
A.Accepting failure with ease does make sense.
B.One can make a hobby out of an unattainable goal.
C.Turn to professionals when realizing personal goals.
D.Choosing a goal is more challenging than realizing it.
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the text? D
A.Identity Crisis:Be True to Yourself
B.Goals or Hobbies:Make Your Choice
C.Never Say Never:The Key to Success
D.Winners Do Quit Be Wise About Your Goals

Oscar Wilde once said, "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person.Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." Art provides a way to communicate experiences when people lack verbal skills.(王尔德曾经说过:"当人以自己的身份说话时,就越不是他自己。给他一个面具,他就会告诉你真相。"当人们缺乏语言能力时,艺术提供了一种交流经验的方式。)以及最后一段中Art therapy is founded on the assumption that everyone is creative and capable of self﹣expression.(艺术疗法建立在每个人都有创造力和自我表达能力的假设上。) They develop art as an expressive skill for solving problems.(他们把艺术发展成一种解决问题的表达技巧。)
As a restorative practice,it allows people to express themselves in non﹣verbal ways,such as drawing and painting.Even a 45﹣minute creative activity can change a person's mental state.(作为一种恢复性练习,它允许人们用非语言的方式表达自己,比如绘画。 Art therapy,in its own ways,can influence a range of human functioning.(艺术疗法,以其自身的方式,可以影响一系列的人类功能。)
Even a 45﹣minute creative activity can change a person's mental state.Working with an art therapist does even more(即使是45分钟的创造性活动也能改变一个人的精神状态。 It can significantly enhance positive moods and boost measures of well﹣being.(它能显著增强积极情绪,提高幸福感。)
Young children typically draw and sing and dance without worrying about their abilities.Adults, however, often have complex feelings about art and art making. They begin to evaluate the quality of their art instead of focusing on self﹣expression itself.(小孩子通常会画画、唱歌、跳舞,并不担心他们的能力。 Thus, the many benefits of creative self﹣expression are lost.(因此,创造性自我表达的许多好处就失去了。)
What are art therapists' superpower? They can channel dangerous thoughts into imaginative artworks. For instance, people with violent tendencies might let out their anger by hitting another human being.(艺术治疗师的超能力是什么? These artistic choices satisfy the brain's desire for novelty without compromising personal safety.(这些艺术选择在不损害个人安全的情况下满足了大脑对新奇事物的渴望。) However, with art therapists' help, their energy could be changed into creative products.(然而,在艺术治疗师的帮助下,他们的精力可以转化为创造性的产品。)

此处表示"一群,一批"法国人,应用a growing population of,故填a。
