on Thursday evening in Wuhan, Hubei province. Huang was given the Medal of the Republic,
China’s highest honor, in 2019.
Born in March 1926 to a family of doctors in Guangdong province. After spending his
boyhood in wartime, he joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University to study shipbuilding. There the
young man learned about the communist revolution (共产主义革命) and joined the Communist
Party of China in April 1949, right before his graduation. After receiving his bachelor’s diploma
(学士学位证书), Huang started his lifelong career in China’s shipbuilding industry. In 1958,
Huang was selected to join the research team tasked with designing China’s first nuclear-powered
submarine.
At the beginning, Huang and his colleagues found that China lacked the basic conditions to
develop such a sophisticated hardware technology (复杂的硬件技术). None of them had any
knowledge in that field, and since other countries were extremely protective of such technologies,
they hardly had any technical reference (参考) materials.
Huang and his colleagues started by scouring (搜 寻 ) newspapers and magazines for
information, which was very difficult to find and was either too fragmented (碎片化的) or hard to

China Enters New Period of Low-Altitude Passenger Flights
On March 28, 2025, China took a historic step in transportation by issuing (颁布) the world’
s first operation certificates (操作证书) for passenger-carrying drones. These certificates, given to
Guangzhou-based EHang and Hefei-based Heyi Air Company, allow companies to offer paid
services using self-flying electric aircraft called eVTOLs (电动垂直起降飞行器). This marks the
start of a “passenger period” for low-altitude flights in China.
EHang’s EH216-S, a two-seat electric aircraft, is the first drone to pass all safety tests and
get four key permits (许可). It can fly up to 30 kilometers at 130 km/h and has finished over 60,
000 safe test flights since 2021. Now, people in cities like Guangzhou and Hefei can book short
flights for visiting tourist spots (地点) or commuting (通勤), just like ordering a taxi online. For
example, Hefei’s Luogang Park will soon offer air tours, with tickets priced between 500-800
yuan per ride.
China’s government has strongly supported this technology. Cities like Guangzhou and
Hefei built special takeoff/landing spots and created rules to ensure safety. By 2027, Guangzhou
plans to have 100 such spots across the city. Experts say low-altitude flights could help reduce
traffic jams and improve emergency services, like sending medical supplies.
Globally, China is leading in this field. While countries like the U.S. are still testing, China
has already started selling tickets. EHang, the first eVTOL company to make money, set out 216
aircraft in 2024 and aims to grow its services all over the country.
In the future, more cities may open “air taxi” routes, letting people fly to work or travel. As
one EHang engineer said, “Flying cars are no longer science fiction—they’re here.” With strong
tech and policy support, China’s sky is becoming a new road for everyone.
61.What does the underlined word “This” refer to in Paragraph 1
A.Building drones for scientific research.
B.Showing a new plan for low-altitude flights.
C.Issuing the first certificates for passenger drones.
D.Choosing two companies from Guangzhou and Hefei.
62.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2
A.The design and real-life uses of EHang’s EH216-S drone.
B.Drones are tested and safe to use in Guangzhou and Hefei.
C.The cost of building drone airports in Guangzhou.
D.The challenges of making passenger drones fly faster.
63.What does the underlined word “emergency” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Traffic rules for drones. B.New technology for flying cars.
C.Daily services like sending food. D.Sudden problems needing quick help.
64.What does the text show about other countries like the U.S.
A.They set out 216 aircraft in 2014.
B.They are still testing eVTOL technology.
C.They do not care about low-altitude flights.
D.They have already started selling drone tickets.
65.Why does the writer use the EHang engineer’s words
A.To prove flying cars are real now. B.To tell a story about a park.
C.To explain how to build drones. D.To talk about problems with high prices.

old Chinese recipes (食谱) with modern science. 70

The Pros and Cons of Diet Recipes for Students
Following online diet recipes to help children lose weight can be both helpful and risky.
While these plans may provide structured meal ideas, blindly copying them without professional
guidance could harm children’s health due to unbalanced nutrition.
Last year, my neighbor followed a trendy “7-day detox diet” for her overweight son. After
three days, he felt dizzy and struggled in PE class because the recipe lacked enough carbohydrates.
They later consulted a nutritionist who designed balanced meals with proper portions of proteins,
veggies, and grains. Within months, he healthily lost weight while staying energetic.
This experience taught me that effective weight management requires scientific approaches
tailored to individual needs, not one-size-fits-all solutions. Parents should combine professional
advice with regular exercise rather than relying solely on Internet trends.

Huang Xuhua, chief designer of China’s first-generation nuclear submarines (核潜艇), died
on Thursday evening in Wuhan, Hubei province.
Huang and his colleagues started by scouring (搜 寻 ) newspapers and magazines for
information, which was very difficult to find and was either too fragmented (碎片化的) or hard to
tell whether it was true or false.
The team members didn’t have any computers or digital calculators, so they used abacuses
(算盘) and rulers to solve problems. Their work didn’t stopped even from 1962 to 1965, when
China was undergoing economic difficulties.
After years of painstaking (艰苦的) efforts, China finally built its first nuclear-powered
submarine —the first Type 091—in 1970, becoming the fifth nation to have such hardware.
Huang’s name remained classified until 1987 when a magazine in Shanghai was allowed to
publish a report on him, which only disclosed his family name of Huang.
Even in his 90s, the designer used to visit his office every weekday morning to review and
arranged materials of his know-how and experience, and would also give young researchers
advice on technical issues (技术问题).
As young people, we should learn from the older generation of heroes like Huang.
51.Put the following events about Huang in the right order.

c. He graduated from the university.
d. He joined the Communist Party of China.

China Enters New Period of Low-Altitude Passenger Flights
On March 28, 2025, China took a historic step in transportation by issuing (颁 布 ) the
world’s first operation certificates (操作证书) for passenger-carrying drones. These certificates,
given to Guangzhou-based EHang and Hefei-based Heyi Air Company, allow companies to offer
paid services using self-flying electric aircraft called eVTOLs (电动垂直起降飞行器). This
marks the start of a “passenger period” for low-altitude flights in China.

China is taking big steps to help people stay healthy. The government recently announced it
will open more special “weight clinics (诊所)” in hospitals. 66
At a press meeting (新 闻 发 布 会 ) in Beijing, Lei Haichao from the National Health
Commission (NHC) said the plan is part of a new health-first strategy (策略). 67 Many
people shared funny posts and drew cartoons about exercising and eating healthy.
Why does it matter Over half of Chinese adults are now overweight. If something changes,
this number could rise to 70% by 2030. Being overweight can lead to health problems like
diabetes (糖尿病). 68 Weight clinics are a key part of this plan. Besides clinics, many
cities also take the responsibility and build millions of sports parks and walking paths for citizens.
More Chinese people are exercising outdoors.
Food habits are changing too. New dietary guides (饮食指南) mention healthy meals for
different cities, such as steamed (蒸 ) fish with millet rice (小 米 饭 ) and vegetables in central
China, and fresh seafood with vegetables in the south. 69 Office workers prefer salad
bowls with chicken or fish. Even holiday snacks like mooncakes are now smaller and healthier.
Doctors mix old Chinese recipes (食谱) with modern science. 70
