The Rabbit and the Moonflower
Once upon a time, a young rabbit named Snow promised her sick mother to find the magical moonflower in the Silver Mountains. “I’ll bring back its petals to heal you,” she said bravely.
Early the next morning, Snow decided to start her journey. She packed some carrots and hopped past the familiar meadows. The mountains looked far away, but she kept walking. For three days, she searched under rocks and behind trees, finding only ordinary flowers.
On the fourth day, Snow met an old turtle by a stream. “Have you seen the moonflower ” she asked. The turtle slowly nodded. “Cross this bridge, climb the tallest hill, and you’ll see a cave. But only those who truly believe can enter.”
Snow’s heart beat fast as she reached the dark cave. Suddenly, blue light appeared, showing the way. Inside, the moonflower glowed like moonlight! But when she tried to touch it, the cave shook. A voice said, “Why do you want this flower ”
Remembering her promise, Snow answered, “I believe it can save my mother.” The shaking stopped. The flower floated into her paws, along with a basket of healing herbs.
Snow hurried home. When her mother drank the moonflower tea, she felt better immediately. All the rabbits cheered, and Snow learned an important lesson: Keeping a promise needs courage and true belief.
From that day, whenever rabbits faced difficulties, they remembered Snow’s story. The magical moonflower still grows in the mountains, waiting for kind hearts that keep their promises.

根据第一段中的“After much discussion, they came to the conclusion that the cage was built too low. A staff member suggested, ‘Let’s raise (增加) the height of the cage from 1 to 2 meters. That should stop them!’”
根据第三段中的“They were determined to go to all lengths and do everything possible to solve the problem, and this time, they decided to raise the cage to 10 meters.” 由此可推测,go to all lengths意为“竭尽全力,不遗余力”,与Try one’s best意思相近。故选A。

根据第二段中的“They said some angry words and shouted at each other. From then on, they hadn’t talked to each other for several weeks.”;第三段中的“I’m looking for a few days’ work…Are there any jobs I could help with …Look at that farm across the creek (小溪). That’s my brother’s farm. That creek was a grass field before, but last week my brother made the creek. Now, I want you to build me a fence (栅栏), two metres tall, so I won’t need to see him anymore.”;第四段中的“Paul had business in town that day”以及最后一段中的“Paul and Jason hugged each other.”
