Blake Miller is a well-known and busy businessman. One day, he finally managed to spare some time and take his father out to a fine restaurant for a special meal.
As they stepped into the restaurant, the soft and beautiful violin music immediately caught their attention. A young and talented violinist was standing in a corner of the restaurant, playing with all his heart. The customers in the restaurant were all lost in the wonderful music.
While enjoying the music, Blake’s memories came flooding back like a powerful tide (潮水). He remembered that when he was young, he had once been crazy about the violin. Back then, he would spend a lot of time practicing the violin every day. Every time he played, he could feel the joy and satisfaction deep in his heart. However, as time went by, he gradually spent all his time on his business and had to give up his beloved violin in order to pursue his career.
At this moment, he couldn’t help but say to his father, “If I had kept up with the violin, maybe I would be playing here now.” His father nodded slowly, with his eyes full of love and understanding. “Yes, my child. But in that case, you wouldn’t be dining here now.” he replied gently. Then his father continued after a moment of silence, “Life is full of different choices. People can take completely different paths and live quite different lives. But everyone should keep this in mind: There is no ‘if’ in life and every choice has its meaning. The best thing to do is to value what we have in the present moment.”

①That future is almost here. “I think it’s going to happen. Without doubt, in ten years...even faster,” said Sebastian Thrun in 2021. At that time, his young company was working on developing flying car-eVTOL.
②Flying to work or school sounds unbelievable. It is fun to fly. “There would never be heavy traffic again, because the sky is very, very large,” says Thrun. He also thinks eVTOLs could be greener than common cars. “We go much faster. We go in a straight line, and we fly on less energy,” he says.
③So far, though, flying cars haven’t become successful as a product. Will their day come There are still many problems to solve. Their high price means most people won’t be able to afford one. So, some companies are developing them as air taxis so that people could pay to take. The main problem with flying cars is safety. To make eVTOLs safer, many developers are aiming to make them self-flying—no human pilot required.
④Another problem is space. Most planes need long runways to take off and land. Lifting straight up and down like a helicopter (直升机) solves this problem. Finding places to put flying cars could be tricky, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could stay on top of buildings.
⑤What do you think Are flying cars a good idea, or should we find other ways to get around in the near future

B.Flying cars can help to protect the environment.
C.Most of the common human pilots will lose their jobs.
D.Everyone will take a flying car to work or school in the future.
35.What is the probable structure of the passage
A. B.
C. D.
D
If you don’t use it, you lose it. At least, that’s how the old saying goes. It refers to the idea that something that does not get used often quickly falls into a state of decline (衰退). For example, a hobby that you haven’t done for a few years, like playing the piano. The next time you pick it up, maybe you’ve forgotten altogether! In order to avoid this, people take usual exercise to keep their skills well-practiced.
Well, what about the brain As we age, our brains can naturally begin to decline. In some cases, this can lead to certain brain problems: such as dementia (痴呆). However, all is not lost because these days it’s easy to train your brain. Smartphones and apps provide programs that can test, keep and even improve our memories and a number of other brain skills. With a little practice every day, we can keep our brains active, right
Well, no, actually. According to a report from the Global Council on Brain Health, even though many people think it is beneficial to play some online games that are designed to improve brain health, the evidence (证据) of the benefits is “weak to non-existent”. Playing a “brain game” might cause improvements in game performance, yet it hasn’t proven to a believable result in people’s daily cognitive (认知的) abilities.
Don’t lose heart, though. There are other ways to develop the brain. It suggests trying new activities which can make you think in new ways, let you connect with others socially and help you lead a healthy life. Among their suggestions are practicing Tai Chi, taking photography classes, learning new technologies, gardening, art projects or volunteering.
There’s more good news, too. James Goodwin, chief scientist at Age UK, has said that brain decline is not unavoidable. As long as the activities are “new to you and require your full focus”, they can provide benefits for brain health. So, hurry up, get out there and try something new. Maybe it’s time to try that hobby you’ve always wanted to do.
36.Why is playing the piano mentioned in paragraph 1
A.To introduce the topic of brain decline. B.To explain how to keep physically healthy.
C.To show the importance of practice. D.To describe the meaning of an old saying.
37.According to the passage, how can the brain training apps help you
A.It will improve our memory. B.It can make us smarter.
C.It can do little to train our brains. D.It can protect us from ageing.
38.How can we develop the brain according to the passage
A.Using smart phone regularly. B.Trying some new activities.
C.Playing brain games online. D.Doing what you are good at.
39.What can we infer (推断) from the passage
A.Playing brain games can improve people’s daily cognitive abilities.
B.Playing brain games has been proven to help the brain work better.
C.Repeating the skills you already know will be good for your brain.
D.James Goodwin believes we can do something about brain decline.
40.What does the passage mainly tell us
A.How to keep brain healthy and active. B.How to live meaningfully at an old age.
C.Disadvantages of using smart phones. D.Advantages of trying something new.

第二节 短文填空(共10小题,每小题2分,满分20分)
根据下面短文内容,在短文的空格处填上一个恰当的词,使短文完整、通顺。
In summer, it’s common on the street to see many Chinese women holding umbrellas to protect 61 from the sun. But when Amy, an exchange student in Beijing from the US, first saw this, she found it 62 , even impossible to understand. She wrote on her blog, “Unlike Chinese women, American women prefer to 63 on their tank tops (背心) and sunglasses during summer.”
This may be caused by the different standards of beauty 64 the US and China. Many Americans don’t want white skin. They would rather be tanned (晒黑). Amy also wrote, “Having darker skin is quite popular 65 many women and men in America so that they would like to pay for fake tans. They can keep their sun-kissed appearance during the winter months, too.”
Why do they like tanned skin Michelle Louis reported in her research, “ 66 the process of tanning can help make people’s skin smooth and hide marks.” She further explained, “Tans make people’s skin appear healthier and make them appear thinner 67 when they have pale skin.”
Perhaps there is no real ideal standard of beauty. In 68 cultures and at different times of history, the standards change. On Amy’s blog, she also gave two examples: Some women carried 69 around trying to keep their white skin in the US 150 years ago; During the Tang Dynasty in China, heavy women were thought beautiful. But now, Chinese women prefer to be slim.
In a word, different standards of beauty should be respected. People may grow up with only one idea of 70 beauty is, but it doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily the correct or the best idea.

Black rice culture started from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is believed that children who eat black rice will not be bitten by insects and will be fit the whole summer.

People of all ages take part in the activity. Locals believe that people who weigh themselves on this day will not only have good luck, but also guard against weight loss during the coming summer.
Egg fights: Children are undoubtedly crazy about this game. With a boiled egg, each child tries to break the egg of their competitor. Whoever’s egg breaks first is the loser, and needs to eat the egg as a punishment. The champion in the game is awarded the title of “Egg King”.
