Meeting a polar bear
I put my day’s supply of food into my bag and then began to take down the tent. Suddenly I
heard a deep, long growl (嚎叫) from my dog Charlie. I looked at him and then in the direction he
was watching closely. A polar bear!
It was a mother 11 by two cubs coming slowly towards me. They were 200
meters away. With a pounding (狂 跳 ) heart, I picked up my flare (照 明 ) gun and 12
walked sideways a few steps to Charlie. Without taking my eyes off the bear, I untied Charlie and,
again walked sideways.
The bear, now only 150 meters away, wasn’t stopping. Her cubs had dropped back but she
kept going, while I tried to remember all the 13 that had been given. Keep eye contact,
move sideways or forward, never backward, stay calm, don’t show 14 . Don’t wound a
bear and you’ll make it 15 to control it. Never run. Repeating to myself, “Stay calm,
stay calm,” I fired a warning shot (射击) to the bear’s left. The loud noise had no 16 .
She came around. I fired a flare, landing it a little to her right. Her head moved in its direction but
she didn’t stop. I fired another, this time dropping it right in front of her. She stopped, looked at
the flare. She was only 30 meters away now.
By this time, I was so nervous that my heart could have been heard at base camp. The bear
began to step around the flare, and I dropped another a meter in front of her. Again she
17 , and then she fixed her tiny black eyes on Charlie, who was trying to reach her. She
looked back at her cubs, waited, and then moved to my left in a half circle. I fired two more flares,
trying to draw a line between her and me. She stopped again and seemed to want to 18
the line of flares but was unsure of the result and of Charlie, so she decided to stay 19 .
Finally, with a last long look, she walked north with her cubs behind her.
My hands were still shaking, but I now knew that I could 20 a bear in the wild
bravely and stay calm enough to act properly.

Do you agree with gene (基因) editing
Andy: Every year, many babies are born with genetic (遗 传 的 )
problems. If we can get rid of these problems by editing their genes, we can
save many lives. Meanwhile, editing genes allows parents to choose their
babies’ appearance and even intelligence. This can give their children a better
future. However, to stop some people from using this technology in bad ways,
it’s necessary to have laws that tell us how we are allowed to edit genes.
Diana: Parents make the decision to edit a baby’s genes without their
children’s agreement. This goes against the rights of these unborn children.
More importantly, this technology may destroy humans’ genetic diversity (多
In my opinion, you are unique and no one can replace you. However,
this could change if parents can edit their babies’ genes. Everyone might look
the same someday.
Cici: This new technology can help fix babies’ problems that they are
born with, like heart diseases. Many children suffer from these things.
________ But with this technology, all babies can be born healthy and their
parents won’t have to worry about them.
Kate: This technology could be risky. It could result in some problems
for babies if it is not used properly. Their parents may regret this. What’s
worse, if only rich people can afford it, gene editing could be seen as unfair to
poor families. The rich would be able to make their children clever and
good-looking, while ordinary people could not. Rich families would get richer
and poor families would get poorer.
21.What does Andy think is needed to prevent people from using gene editing in wrong ways
A.Getting rid of genetic problems. B.Laws to control gene editing.
C.Making the technology expensive. D.Guidance to help parents make decisions.
22.Which of the following is the suitable sentence to fill in the blank in Cici’s opinion
A.They have nothing to do but break the laws.
B.Their parents can give them a bright future.
C.They will live like normal people in their childhood.
D.Their parents have to spend a lot of money to keep them healthy.
23.What problem will gene editing cause according to Kate
A.Everyone might look the same someday.
B.People will use the technology in bad ways.
C.Parents may suffer from serious heart diseases.
D.The gap between the rich and the poor will become bigger.
24.The underlined word “it” in Kate’s opinion refers to ________.
A.the cost of gene editing B.the risk of using the technology
C.the decision to edit a baby’s genes D.the agreement on the baby’s appearance
25.The passage above is mainly about ________.
A.different ways of gene editing B.the research on gene editing
C.different attitudes about gene editing D.the development of gene editing

On September 29th,2024, something unusual happened—the Earth gained a “second moon”.
Scientists said it would stay around for nearly two months.
A moon is an object that moves around a planet. The “second moon”, called 2024 PT5, is a
small and rocky planet flying around the Sun. Compared with the Moon which is 2.159.2 miles
across, 2024 PT5 is only about 10 metres wide. It is too small and dark to be found with the
human eye but can be seen using professional telescopes (望远镜).
NASA first noticed 2024 PT5 on August 7th, 2024. Scientists studied how this small planet
was travelling on , and worked out that it would travel close enough to the Earth to get pulled by
our planet’s gravity
2024 PT5 is expected to stay in the Earth’s orbit (轨道) until it breaks free on November
25th. After that, it will continue its journey around the Sun. That won’t be the last time that we
have seen the mini-moon, though.
Researchers said that it would fly past the Earth again in January next year, and then in
2055. This isn’t the first time the Earth has caught a planet in its orbit. ■ Astronomer (天文学
家) Dr. Jenifer Millard said, “This shows how busy our solar system (太阳系) is and how much
there is out there that we haven’t discovered , because this small planet was only discovered this
year.
26.How does the writer describe the size of 2024 PT5
A.By telling a story. B.By comparing a fact.
C.By giving an example. D.By asking a question.
27.When was 2024 PT5 discovered first
A.In August 2024. B.In January 2024. C.In September 2024.
D.In November 2024
28.What will 2024 PT5 do after it breaks free from the Earth’s orbit on November 25th
A.Leave the Earth’s orbit forever. B.Continue its journey around the Sun.
C.Fly past the Earth again in November, 2025. D.Stay around the Moon for nearly two
months.
29.Which of the following can be put in the ■ in the last paragraph
A.The 2024 PT5 looks clear but is not round.
B.It needs strict conditions to be a “mini-moon”.
C.Scientists have recorded it several times before.
D.The “guest” of the Moon will be noticed by most people.
30.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.The Earth gets a “second moon”.
B.Something unusual happened on the Moon.
C.A big planet gets into the Earth’s orbit.
D.How a “second moon” travels around the Earth.
C
“Hello,” says a friendly voice. “My name is Temi.”
For a moment, I’m surprised. I look at the one-meter-tall machine, and it looks back at me.
I’ve never met a robot before!
Temi says its job is to help humans. 31 They check on patients, bring items to
customers, and do some other things.
While Temi has taken on many human jobs, you’d never mistake it for a person. The robot
has a screen for a “face”. Its “body” looks like a vacuum
32 These products of technology are at the center of a debate: Should they be
made to look like humans or just like what they are machines
Robots are playing a bigger role in our lives. In some countries, robots have been amusing
kids and helping the elderly. Some experts say robots will be better at such jobs if they look like
humans.
33
“Humanizing the machines can turn cold technology into something that speaks to the
human heart,” said roboticist (机器人专家) David Hanson. Hanson is the creator of Sophia, one
of the most human-like robots ever built.
34 Just look at popular fictional robots like WALL-E. They don’t look like us at
all.
Plus, human-like robots have disadvantages, these experts say. For one thing, they may
leave us feeling disappointed. 35 However, robots can’t always do that yet. For example,
they can’t laugh at the right moments during a conversation. Many people also find human-like
robots scary.
What’s more, the human body is not the best design for many of the jobs we want robots to
do. Just think of small, smooth robot vacuums. They can go under a sofa to pick up the dust balls.
Can human-like robots also do this
What do you think Should robots look like humans
A.Robots don’t have to look like humans.
B.If robots look like us, we may expect them to act like us.
C.Research has shown that people feel closer to human-like robots.
D.There are about 8,000 Temis in hospitals and shops around the world.
E.However, some robots are now being designed to look as human as possible.
F.Although they have many advantages, many people are unhappy about their designs.
G.But other experts say robots don’t need to appear human for us to connect with them.

On the streets of Chinese cities, young people can increasingly be seen wearing clothing
with “Neo-Chinese elements (元 素 )”. This style connects modern clothing with traditional
clothing such as qipao or hanfu has become a new favorite for younger generations, who have
more confidence than ever in traditional Chinese culture.
Nowadays, searches for “Neo-Chinese Style” have recently increased. A search on
Xiaohongshu shows the hashtag (标签) “Neo-Chinese Style” has been seen about 130 million
times, while “Neo-Chinese Style clothing” has been seen more than 72 million times. A report
about recent fashion trends noted that Neo-Chinese fashion has mainly become popular among
18-to-34-year-olds, while 40 percent of the customer group are women aged 24—34 years old.
They are without doubt the most important players shaping the Chinese fashion industry. Also,
they are accepting different kinds of styles, including the Neo-Chinese style.
Neo-Chinese clothing is one of the most popular fields among younger generations, who
prefer clothing that connect traditional Chinese elements with daily wear. This has encouraged
Chinese designers to use more traditional ornaments (饰物). Compared with traditional hanfu or
Tang jackets, Neo-Chinese dresses exchange a sense of ceremony for a more simple and
convenient feel.
“Neo-Chinese fashion interests young customers because it shows who they are through
dress-up. It is a way to send a message, speaking of their mind about culture,” Fang Qiongyi, a
cultural sociologist in Shanghai said.
46.What’s the writer’s purpose of using the search on Xiaohongshu
47.What does the underlined word “They” refer to (指代) in Paragraph 2
48.Why do Chinese designers use more traditional ornaments
49.What is the difference between traditional hanfu and Neo-Chinese dresses
50.Do you like Neo-Chinese clothing Why or why not (at least 20 words)

Welcome to the Amazon rainforest. As the largest rainforest in the world, it plays an
important role in keeping the balanced ecosystem (生 态 系 统 ) on the Earth. With an area of
around 6 million square kilometers, the Amazon rainforest is more than half the size of China.
This area has a great many species (物种). Actually, one in ten known species in the world can be
found here.
Of the 390,000 plant species known to us, more than 40,000 can be found in the Amazon.
There are different levels in the forest. At the bottom is a system of roots under the ground. Above
that is leaf litter on the dark forest floor. The next level is made up of shorter plants with large
leaves. Then there are the towering ancient hardwoods, and finally the tops of the trees which are
taller than any other level of trees in the forest. Each level of the forest forms its own little world,
home to different kinds of living things.
More than 1,300 species of birds and over 400 species of mammals (哺乳动物) hide among
the forest’s plant life. This jaguar is one example. While a large number of jaguars survive here,
they are only one part of this forest’s food chain (食物链). They feed on at least 87 species,
including frogs. These frogs, in turn, feed on insects which eat leaves and fruit.
The Amazon rainforest is a treasure house of species that can be used for food or medicine.
What’s more, the Amazon rainforest breathes life into the planet by producing over 20 percent of
all the Earth’s oxygen (O2). So it is often known as the “lungs of the planet”.
51.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in the first paragraph
52.To complete the following food chain, ___________ can be put into ▲.
A. B. C.
The Amazon rainforest is a treasure house of species that can be used for food or
medicine.”
54.从文中找到与该句“Ten percent of the world’s known species live in this place.”

where 在哪里;when 什么时候;how 如何;why 为什么。根据“I want to go to Bums Park. Would
you please tell me...to get there ”可知,此处询问去公园的方式。故选 C。
if 如果;unless 除非;so 所以;because 因为。“I’d like to walk”和“it’s within walking distance”
unless 除非;until 直到;however 然而;therefore 因此。
根据“I hear that
John went to Paris last month. Are you going to Germany...”
根据“I can learn about much
knowledge about history, art, music and so on”可知,博物馆可以学到历史和艺术等方面的知识。
故选 B。
故选 A。
根据“How can I help with the washing
up That’s quite good, dear!”和“You peel the onions and wash them, then chop them.”
after 在……之后;before 在…… 根据“Then what can I do...I
finish it Let me see. Wash the cabbage over there.”
故选 A。
too many 太多,修饰可数名词复数;too much 太多,修饰不可数名词;much too 太,修饰形
根据“Oh, I really forget it.”

26.B 27.A 28.B 29.C 30.A
Compared with the Moon which is 2,159.2 miles across, 2024 PT5 is only
about 10 metres wide.”
根据“NASA first noticed 2024 PT5 on August 7th, 2024.”
故选 A。
根据“2024 PT5 is expected to stay in the Earth’s orbit (轨道) until it breaks free
on November 25th. After that, it will continue its journey around the Sun.”
This isn’t the first time the Earth has caught a planet in its orbit.”,
On September 29th, 2024, something unusual happened—the
Earth gained a ‘second moon’.”
【答案】31.D 32.E 33.G 34.A 35.B
31.根据“Temi says its job is to help humans.”以及“They check on patients, bring items to
customers, and do some other things.”
32.根据“These products of technology are at the center of a debate: Should they be made to look
like humans or just like what they are machines ”可知,这里引出了关于机器人是否应该看起来
33.根据“Some experts say robots will be better at such jobs if they look like humans.”
Humanizing the machines can
turn cold technology into something that speaks to the human heart,’ said roboticist
David Hanson.”,
34.根据“Just look at popular fictional robots like WALL-E. They don’t look like us at all.”
故选 A。
35.根据“Plus, human-like robots have disadvantages, these experts say. For one thing, they may
leave us feeling disappointed.”以及“However, robots can’t always do that yet. For example, they
can’t laugh at the right moments during a conversation.”
