Sloths (树懒) live in the forests of South and Central America. They move so slowly that some special
plants grow on their bodies. They give the sloths a green color that helps them to hide from danger in the forest.
This green is a “lucky color” for sloths. That’s because most of them are too slow to run away from danger.
And they are even slower on the ground than they are in the trees. Some walk only four meters every minute on
the ground.
Why do sloths move so slowly It has a lot to do with their food. Sloths may all look the same to us. But
there are in fact two main types of sloths. One has two toes (趾) and the other has three toes. The two-toed sloths
eat both plants and insects. And the three-toed sloths only eat tree leaves and some fruits. Leaves and fruits
provide very little energy. Sloths save energy by not moving very often. They sleep and rest a lot. Some even
sleep up to twenty hours a day!
59.Why is green a “Iucky color” for sloths
A.Because it brings them more food. B.Because it helps them save time.
C.Because it makes them walk quickly. D.Because it protects them from danger.
60.What do the two types of sloths have in common
A.They both have three toes. B.They both sleep for a short time.
C.They both eat some plants. D.They both get much energy from food.
61.What is the purpose of the text
A.To show how people like sloths. B.To explain why sloths eat animals.
C.To introduce different types of sloth. D.To tell basic information about sloths.

Soft music filled Bovard Auditorium as dancers were floating beautifully in colorful dresses, telling stories
through traditional Chinese dance. USC Traditional Chinese Dance (TCD) celebrated its 20th birthday with the
show called “Ephemeral”.
The event began by highlighting (突 出 ) dancers’ personal skills, showing different kinds of dances,
including Tang Dynasty and kung fu styles. “We can try out different types of Chinese dance and learn from each
other,” explained dancer Anna Tung.
Next came the drama, describing the story behind the Mid-Autumn Festival. It told the sad love story of
Chang’e, who took a special kind of medicine and rose up to the moon, leaving behind her husband, Hou Yi.
Kylie Meng-Lin, director of TCD, said, “We named the show ‘Ephemeral’ to tell the sadness of separation and
longing (渴望) between lovers who cannot get together.”
Audience also mentioned stories of Chang’e differ (不同) across cultures, reflecting different opinions.
Serena Li noted, “Different versions (版本) of a story lead to different ideas.”
The Mid-Autumn Festival shows family reunion, and TCD carries this spirit. “TCD has become a home
and family,” Meng-Lin shared, hoping to inspire pride in dancers and admiration for the Chinese culture in
audiences.
Like moonlight gently connecting distant hearts, the dancers’ graceful performance bridged cultures,
emotions, and generations.

A.The history of Chinese festivals. B.Challenges in the stage design.
C.Modern changes to ancient stories. D.Dancers’ skills and dance styles.

C.To celebrate family traditions. D.To suggest the cultural differences.
64.What can we learn from Serena Li’s words
A.Family values differ across countries. B.Culture shapes different opinions.
C.Some versions change the real history. D.Moving stories bring true feelings.

Every year, between 100 million and 1, 000 million birds die from crashing into buildings, especially
windows. When hearing the news, you may feel sad. Scientists have come up with a simple idea that could help
save birds: Turn off the lights.
In the fall, more than 8, 000 million birds migrate (迁徙) from North America to warmer places. During
daylight hours, glass reflects (反射) the outside world. That makes the birds think what they see is the real world.
At night, the bright lights in tall buildings look like stars. That makes the birds mistake them for stars that show
them the way. These finally result in birds crashing into windows and losing their lives.
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology (the study of birds) advises producing man-made lights as little as possible
during the migration season. They advise turning off lights outside that are not important to your life and turning
off or dimming lights inside.
In 1999, the National Audubon Society which protects birds, began the Lights Out Network. It is a national
action to provide safe airspace for migrating birds. Now some big US cities, like Dallas, Philadelphia and New
York, turn off the lights at night to protect birds. If we pull together to protect birds, they will have a better living
environment.
66.How does the writer describe the situation of birds dying from crashing
A.By telling stories. B.By listing numbers.
C.By asking questions. D.By giving examples.
67.Which is the main reason for birds crashing into windows during daylight hours
A.The windows are too clean. B.They want some warmer places.
C.The lights are turned off in the day. D.They mistake the reflection for the real world.
68.What does the underlined word “dimming” mean in Chinese
A.调亮 B.熄灭 C.拆掉 D.调暗
69.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.People should leave more space for the birds.
B.The Lights Out Network can protect most of the birds.
C.Many cities pay much attention to protecting birds.
D.People don’t know how to solve the bird crashing problem.

The Double Ninth Festival, also named the “Chong Yang Festival”, is celebrated on the ninth day of the
