On March 4, 2025, Chengdu architect Liu Jiaun made history by becoming China's second winner of the Pritzker Prize, the world's most important architecture award(建筑奖).
According to an international architecture website, Liu's works always include elements of his hometown culture, They depend on “low-tech” simplicity to show beauty. “He has developed a strategy that never relies on a repeated method , Instead, he looks at the unique features and needs of each project differently and makes new plans for it.
One of Liu’s best-known projects was the “rebirth bricks” he created after 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. To help rebuild people's homes, he used local wheat straws, cement(水泥) and broken pieces from destroyed buildings to make the bricks. These bricks are not just a way of recycling waste. Liu’s design, which centers on ordinary people and this can be seen in his largest project ,West Village in Chengdu. It has a soccer field, a market, and paths for walking and riding bikes. With grass growing through holes in the bricks, This project shows the lively side of daily life. It has become the city's most popular place for relaxation.
In an interview with China Daily, Liu shared his belief: "Real architecture should make people's lives better. Protecting their happiness and self-respect is our most important job. "

As the Year of the Snake arrives, the famous Legend of the White Snake, a story loved for over 1,000 years, continues to inspire(激发) many Festival events and activities.
“In ancient times, the snake spirit in this story was seen as bad, educating people about the dangers of giving in to their desires(欲望),” said Wang Yong’en, an expert from the Communication University of China. But over time, the story changed. In the Ming Dynasty, in the work Jing Shi Tong Yan, the writer named Feng Menglong made the snake demon(妖) feel more like a real person. The story is about Xu Xian, a handsome man, and Bai Niangzi, a snake demon who marries him. But the monk Fa Hai puts an end to their peaceful life. “When the snake demon is caught, she looks into Xu’s eyes with sadness and surprise,”said Wang.
Today, new technology and ways of telling the story make it more interesting and modern. A popular cartoon series called White Snake also tells the story in a fun way so that kids can understand and enjoy it. By sharing these stories with the world, more people are learning about China’s rich traditions and culture.
At the 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, a skit(小品) Borrowing an Umbrella was centered around the classic scene from the Legend of the White Snake. To spread(传播) the culture, the performance also successfully mixed different Chinese opera styles together, such as Peking Opera, Cantonese Opera, Sichuan Opera, and Yue Opera.

②On April 25th last year, four zebrafish, along with some other plants, were taken to the space station. On November 4th, they came back to Earth with the astronauts. These little fish have now set a record for being the longest surviving fish in space! For the first time, zebrafish have survived for 43 days in a closed ecosystem with water in space.
