From bikes to motorbikes, buses to private cars, the traveling services for Chinese people have changed
greatly. Looking back, we can find how far we’ve come.
In the 1950s and 1960s in China, most people got around on foot. Although there were public bus services,
they were too expensive. In the 1970s, the bicycle became popular in China. Still, it was considered as an
expensive thing. Bikes were even used as a wedding present. In the 1980s, motorbikes took the place of bikes.
From the 1990s on, Chinese people’s “two-wheel dream” developed into a “four-wheel dream”. Private cars have
become popular since then.
As for trains, “green-skinned trains”, known for their slow speed, became popular after coming out in 1984.
But with China’s continuing development of high-speed trains, the country is now saying goodbye to its old green
trains. Years ago, the world’s fastest bullet train Fuxing came into use between Beijing and Shanghai, which cuts
the journey time to just four and a half hours.
Air travel has also developed rapidly, offering people both speed and comfort. Beijing Daxing International
Airport opened in September 2019 and became the largest modern airport in the world.
Today, China has the world’s longest high-speed railway network and largest airport. The country is
moving forward, providing people with more traveling services.

Have you read the book Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea It tells the
story of Captain Nemo and his team in a cool submarine (潜艇) called the Nautilus.
This book is one of the must-reads for junior high students. To make reading more
fun, the Chinese teacher at Beijing Dongzhimen High School came up with an exciting
idea. They asked the seventh-graders to draw the Nautilus from the story as part of their
homework.
Students said they loved this idea, as it brought their imagination into full play.
The book doesn’t say much about what the Nautilus looked like, so students looked for
details while reading. “In the book, people believe the Nautilus is a very big fish,” said
13-year-old Hu Yuhan. “So it would be cool to draw it as a whale!”
They also had to think about what rooms were inside and where they were on
board the Nautilus. This made the students feel like they also joined Captain Nemo’s
team and lived with them. To make their “home” comfortable, Li Yunxi, 12, looked at
photos of real submarines and a LEGO submarine toy to get ideas. “The special
homework really helped me be creative,” Li said.
By connecting the book with real science, students found learning both interesting
and useful. This activity showed them that knowledge from different subjects can come
together to make reading an amazing experience.
56.What’s the name of the submarine
57.Who was asked to draw the Nautilus as part of their homework

Dear Mr. Brown,
I am writing this letter to share some of my views about English homework.
Yours,
Zhang Hua
【答案】56.The Nautilus. 57.The seventh-graders. 58.Because it brought their imagination into full
play. 59.From photos of real submarines and a LEGO submarine toy. 60.By connecting the book with
real science. 61.例文
Dear Mr. Brown,
I am writing this letter to share some of my views about English homework. The most interesting
homework I’ve ever done was making a poster in English. My teammates and I looked for information, wrote and
drew together. Through this activity, I improved my writing skills and learned how to work with others.
I have some suggestions for future homework. Firstly, instead of doing the same tasks every day, why not
add different activities For example, we can act out stories from textbooks. Besides, connecting homework to
real life would be helpful. We can record short videos about our hobbies. It would make English more useful.
I hope homework can be both interesting and stress-free. By doing so, we will enjoy learning English and
feel more confident.
Thank you for considering my ideas!
Yours,
Zhang Hua
