徐霞客(1587-1641)，明代地理学家、旅行家。他自幼好学，博览群书，淡泊功名，刻意远游。自22岁始，历时30余年,足迹遍及大半个中国。所至之处探幽寻秘，对山川地貌、水文气候、地质生物及民情风俗等认真考察，以游记体裁将观察所得逐日记录。其日记由后人整理成为《徐霞客游记》。
