In our daily lives, sports not only keep us fit but also bring us a lot of fun. People from all walks of life have their beloved sports. Now, let’s hear from Tom, Lily, Jack, and Lucy about the sports that light up their lives.
My favorite sport is soccer. Every weekend, I can’t wait to hit the field with my friends. It’s not just about kicking the ball around, it helps me build strong muscles and improves my endurance. Plus, I’ve made many good friends through this sport. We work together as a team, cheering each other on and supporting one another. I love the excitement of a close game and the feeling of victory when we score a goal.
I’m really into yoga. It’s different from other sports because it combines physical exercise with relaxation. I do it almost every day. The gentle stretches and poses help me stay flexible and strong. Yoga also teaches me to focus on my breathing and clear my mind. After a yoga session, I always feel refreshed and calm. It’s a great way to take care of both my body and mind.
Skateboarding is my passion. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of gliding down the street on my skateboard. It gives me a sense of freedom and adventure. Learning a new trick is challenging but also very rewarding. Every time I succeed, I feel a great sense of achievement. Skateboarding also allows me to express my creativity. It’s not just a sport, it’s a lifestyle for me.
I absolutely adore table tennis. It’s a fast-paced and exciting sport. Playing table tennis improves my hand-eye coordination and reflexes. It’s also a great indoor sport that I can play anytime, no matter what the weather is. I enjoy competing with my friends and classmates. We have friendly matches and try to beat each other. Table tennis is a fun and energetic sport that I’ll always love.

Daniel, at age 17, is a student support captain at Armidale High School, a motivational speaker and a published author. He also has autism (自闭症), something he says doesn’t define him but inspires him.
At just six months old, Daniel had a stroke (中风) that left him physically impaired (受损的), unable to bear weight in his legs or move the left side of his body. Unable to walk and in a wheelchair until he was six years old, Daniel turned to books and could read fluently at age four.
According to the Autism Association of Western Australia, it is estimated that one in 100 people in Australia have autism. In 2018, there were much more Australians with autism, a 25 percent increase from 164,000 in 2015.
The idea of writing a book had been in Daniel’s mind for as long as he could remember. “It’s been one of my long-term goals and I feel very passionate and happy about doing it,” he said. With Mom’s help, Cracked As A Crab was born, the story of Chip, a crab who has autism and uses humour to make friends. “The response to it has been very positive. People are happy and excited for me,” Daniel said.
Now a published author, Daniel has plans to write more books. Not content with sitting idle (无所事事) while most students are studying for their exams, Daniel is busy involving others in his role as student support captain. TikTok users in the US are migrating to a Chinese app called RedNote with the threat of a ban just days away. The move by users who call themselves “TikTok refugees” has made RedNote the most downloaded app on Apple’s US App Store on Monday.
RedNote is a TikTok competitor popular with young people in China and other Mandarin-speaking populations. It has about 300 million monthly users and looks like a combination of TikTok and Instagram. It allows users, mostly young urban women, to exchange lifestyle tips from dating to fashion.
Supreme Court justices are due to rule on a law that set a January 19 deadline for TikTok to either sell its US operations or face a ban in the country. TikTok has repeatedly said that it will not sell its US business and its lawyers have warned that a ban will violate free speech protections for the platform’s 170 million users in the US.
Meanwhile, RedNote has welcomed its S new users with open arms. There are 63,000 posts on the topic “TikTok refugee”, where new users are taught how to navigate the app and how to use basic Chinese phrases.
While a ban will not make TikTok disappear immediately, it will require app stores to stop offering it, which could kill it over time. Some social media users tell the BBC that they find themselves scrolling on RedNote more than TikTok.

As we all know, reading is very important for us.
Our school library opens from Monday to Friday, and there are all kinds of books in it. I often go there to borrow books. It’s a great place to enjoy reading, and I feel relaxed when I’m in it.
For this reading activity, I have some ideas. First, we can hold a reading-aloud competition. Reading aloud helps us understand the beauty of language better. Second, we can start a “book-buddy” program. Students can pair up and read the same book, then discuss it. This can make reading more fun and let us make new friends.
