When I was young, I loved paper cutting and I was pretty good at it. As I grew up, I became busy and
didn’t have much time for it. Later, I stopped doing it.
However, the news I came across online touched my heart and changed my mind. A little girl from
Jieyang, Guangdong was practicing lion dance when a professional lion dance performance team (专业舞狮
表演队) passed by. As soon as they saw the girl practicing, they started to beat drums and gongs for her and
quickly she did a lion dance in return. People around all cheered for her. Her love for the ancient Chinese
culture evoked my strong memories of paper cutting.
I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club. When
I was ten, I joined the paper cutting club. Every Monday and Friday, I learned to make paper cuttings there.
Our teacher, Ms. Li, was very talented. With a pair of scissors and a piece of paper, she could create lively
works (作品). That amazed us. And we learned much from her. Together, we created lots of works. They
covered many topics, including animals, flowers and things about Chinese history. Every time we held a paper
cutting show, our works attracted many visitors. The girl in the news encouraged me to go on with paper
cutting. I want to be an inheritor (继承者) of the ancient Chinese culture. Together with other inheritors, I
hope to pass down our excellent culture.
14.What did the girl do after the team began to beat drums and gongs for her
A.She watched their show carefully. B.She did a lion dance in return.
C.She cheered for the team. D.She made a paper cutting for the team.

A.brought back B.took away C.cut off D.depended on
16.What is the main idea of Paragraph 3
A.The long history of paper cutting. B.The steps of making paper cuttings.
C.The writer’s happy times of making paper cuttings. D.The writer’s plans for setting up a paper cutting
club.

Reading, writing and sharing poetry can help people deal with loneliness and relieve feelings of anxiety,
a new study shows.
Research by the University of Plymouth and Nottingham Trent University found that many people took
to sharing, discussing and writing poetry as a means to seek the positive impact on their well-being. As
readers connect with the emotions and experiences of the poet, this emotional resonance (共鸣) can contribute
to a sense of shared humanity, reducing feelings of loneliness and causing deeper interpersonal connections.
Additionally, the act of reading or writing poetry can provide an emotional release (释放), helping to manage
stress and anxiety, which is important for maintaining mental health.
The findings are based on a survey of 400 people which showed that poetry helped those experiencing
common mental health symptoms (症 状 ) as well as those suffering from grief. Over half (55%) of
respondents indicated that reading and/or writing poetry had helped them deal with feelings of loneliness, and
for a further 50% it had helped with feelings of depression. Around a third (34%) felt that it helped them feel
“less anxious”, 24% felt that it helped them “feel better able to solve my problems”, 17% expressed that it
enabled them to deal with issues relating to loss of friends or relatives, while 16% said it helped with ongoing
mental health symptoms.
“These results show the power of poetry,” said Anthony Caleshu, Professor of Poetry and Creative
Writing at the University of Plymouth. “Writing and reading poetry, as well as engaging with the website, had
a considerable positive impact on the well-being of the participants.”
In addition to supporting their health and well-being, the website informed social and cultural recovery
and offered an understanding of how poetry was being used as a mode of conversation. Poetry often reflects
cultural heritage and personal identity, providing a sense of belonging and self-awareness. This connection to
one’s roots and to universal human experiences can strengthen self-esteem (自尊) and provide comfort in
times of need. It now provides a means for how people around the world use poetry to manage their life.
17.Why does reading poetry help with feelings of anxiety
A.It improves physical health through relaxation. B.It promotes people’s confidence in themselves.
C.It provides an understanding of personal identity. D.It offers an emotional expression and connection.
18.According to Paragraph 3, how many participants felt their anxiety reduced
A.About 200. B.About 136. C.About 96. D.About 64.

第三节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
59.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a kid, my godparents, Uncle Nell and Aunt Frances, brought me a four-month-old puppy.
She was half German shepherd, half collie. As her pink tongue touched my face with wet licks, it was love at
first hug(一见钟情).
My family named the puppy Dusty. Although I wanted to lay my only claim(所有权) to her affections
(喜爱), in a family of seven kids, no one lays permanent claim to the family pet.
Dusty was our dog, not “my” dog. We soon realized that she had the patience of Buddha(佛陀). My
baby sister often transformed Dusty’s warm fur into a nap-time pillow -- falling asleep on the rug. Like a
protective mother, Dusty waited -- without moving -- until my sister woke.
Dusty doubled as(兼任)a school crossing guard, too. Monday through Friday she’d walk us kids two
blocks to St. Patrick’s Parochial, looking both ways to check for traffic before allowing us to cross the street.
We’d wave good-bye as we entered the door, knowing Dusty would be waiting at the school door to greet us
at the close of the school day.
Of all the contributions Dusty made to our family, one incident stands out far and above all others(在所
有之中脱颖而出).
Late one night, Dusty rushed to my parents’ bedroom. She barked and barked. When she got no response,
Dusty raced upstairs to my bedroom and my brothers’ bedroom and barked again and again. When she failed
to fully wake us, she flew back down the steps and returned to my parents’ room. Finally, she got Mom’s
attention.
“What are you doing, Dusty ” Mom asked with anger, still halfway in dreamland. Dusty persisted.
Finally my mother gave in.

Dusty whined(嗷嗷地叫) and rushed out of Mom’s room. Thinking the dog needed to be let out to
relieve herself, my mother followed Dusty to the front door.
When Mom opened the door to let her out, Dusty tore across(飞奔穿过) the street, not stopping to do
her business as my mother had assumed. Then she discovered what Dusty already knew.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The house across the street, where my best friend Marianne lived, was on fire.

第一节 书面表达
参考范文
Dear teachers and students,
As we all know, the ocean is vital to our planet, which provides us with food, regulates the climate,
and supports a rich marine ecosystem. However, our oceans are facing serious threats, such as pollution,
plastic waste, and overfishing, endangering marine life and our future.
To protect the ocean, it is highly recommended that immediate action be taken. First, reduce the use
of disposable products and recycle waste accordingly. Second, allowing for the critical situation of marine
lives, we are supposed to support sustainable fishing practices and avoid consuming endangered species.
Lastly, spreading awareness about the importance of ocean conservation is on high agenda.
Let’s work together to protect our oceans for a healthier and more sustainable future!
第二节 读后续写(参考范文)
The house across the street, where my best friend Marianne lived, was on fire. Upon seeing
this, my mother swiftly dialed the fire department's number, her fingers trembling with
urgency. After that, she sprinted across the street and pounded at the door of Marianne’s
repeatedly. With my mother yelling and Dusty barking, we and other neighbors were
awakened and then became aware of what had happened. Soon after, the fire truck arrived
with a deafening roar, and then the firefighters promptly launched into action. With everyone’
s joint effort, the flames were brought under control and eventually extinguished completely.
Marianne and her family tightly grasped my mother's hands, their eyes shining with tears of
gratitude. “Thank you so much. If you hadn’t noticed and called the police in time, the
consequences would have been unimaginable,” they said.
However, my mother refused to take all the credit. “Actually, the real hero is Dusty. It was
her intelligence and bravery that saved Marianne's family,” my mother explained, her voice
filled with pride. Having heard my mother's words, Marianne threw her arms around Dusty
tightly. “Thank you for saving us!” she whispered into Dusty’s ear, her hands stroking Dusty’
s head gently. Determined to reward her for her heroic act, we decided to prepare a hearty
dinner for Dusty, hoping to show her just how much we appreciated her bravery. Dusty
wagged her tail merrily and licked our hands with her tongue, as if sensing our gratitude and
love. Through this experience, we realized that Dusty had become more than just a pet, but a
true hero of our family.
