When I was a young boy, my grandpa introduced me to the world of gardening. He had a small but beautiful garden behind our house. Every spring, he would spend hours planting seeds and taking care of the plants. I remember watching him with interest as he worked, and he would often let me help him with small tasks.
One day, Grandpa gave me a small plot of land in the garden and some sunflower seeds. He showed me how to plant them and told me to take care of them. I was excited but also a bit nervous. I didn’t know if I could do it right. Every day, I would water the seeds and watch for any signs of growth. After a few weeks, tiny green shoots started to appear. I was amazed and felt a sense of satisfaction.
As the sunflowers grew taller, I learned more about gardening from Grandpa. He taught me how to protect the plants from pests and how to make sure they got enough sunlight and water. By the end of the summer, my sunflowers were blooming beautifully. I felt so proud of what I had achieved.
Gardening taught me patience and responsibility. I learned that with care and attention, even small seeds can grow into something wonderful. It also showed me the beauty of nature and the joy of watching something grow from nothing. Now, I have my own garden, and I hope to pass on the love of gardening to my children, just as my grandpa did for me. In fact, I’ve already started teaching my kids, and they seem to enjoy it just as much as I did.

Do you often find yourself putting off tasks until the last minute You’re not alone! Many people struggle with procrastination (拖延症). But why do we do it, and how can we stop
First, let’s understand why we procrastinate. Sometimes, we might feel that a task is too big or too hard, so we avoid starting it. Other times, we get distracted (分心的) by fun things like watching TV or playing games. These distractions can pull us away from our work. Procrastination can make us feel stressed and rushed when deadlines come, and it may also lead to lower quality work.
One way to beat procrastination is to break tasks into smaller steps. If you have a big project, divide it into smaller parts. For example, if you need to write a report, start with an outline, and then write one part at a time. This makes the task seem less difficult and more manageable.
Another helpful tip is to set a timer. Tell yourself you’ll work on the task for just 15 minutes. Often, once you start, you’ll find it easier to keep going. Setting a timer can also help you stay focused during that time, knowing that you only have to work for a short period before taking a break.
It’s important to remove distractions. If your phone keeps buzzing with notifications, turn it off or put it in another room. Create a quiet and tidy workspace where you can focus. A clean and organized environment can help reduce the urge (冲动) to procrastinate.
Finally, reward yourself for completing tasks. After you finish a part of your work, give yourself a small treat, like a piece of candy or a short break to do something you enjoy. This can encourage you to keep going and make the process more enjoyable. Celebrating small victories can also build up your confidence.
Procrastination might be a tough habit to break, but with these tips, you can start taking control of your time and getting things done! Remember, every small step you take is a step closer to completing your task and reducing the stress of last - minute work.

33.How can you make a big task seem less difficult
A. By doing it all at once. B. By asking someone for help.
C. By breaking it into smaller steps. D. By working on it for a long time.
34.What is a good way to start working on a task
A. Do something fun first. B. Set a timer for 15 minutes.
C. Talk to a friend about it. D. Wait until you feel like doing it.
35.What is the main purpose of the text
A. To show why people like procrastinating.

Bees are amazing insects. Not only do they make honey, but they also have a special way to communicate. When a bee finds a good source of food, it returns to the hive (蜂巢) and performs a “dance” to tell other bees where the food is. This dance includes movements in circles or figure - eight patterns, which show the direction and distance of the food.
Scientists first studied this behavior in the 20th century. An Austrian scientist named Karl von Frisch spent years observing bees. He noticed that the angle of the bee’s dance matched the angle of the sun’s position relative to the food. For example, if the food was directly toward the sun, the bee danced straight upward. If the food was 30 degrees to the right of the sun, the dance tilted 30 degrees to the right.
This dance language helps bees work efficiently. Without it, bees would waste time searching without directions. The dance also changes based on the quality of the food. A fast, lively dance means the food is highly healthy, while a slower dance suggests it’s less valuable. Additionally, the duration of the dance shows the distance to the food source—a longer dance shows a greater distance. Bees have even been observed performing different dance rhythms to show the type of terrain (地形) surrounding the food, such as open fields or forests.
However, this system isn’t perfect. Bad weather or other animals can make the food source disappear before other bees arrive. Although this system isn’t perfect, the dance remains a key tool for bee colonies (蜂群) to live. Researchers today use high - speed cameras to study these dances carefully, hoping to learn more about animal communication.
Understanding bee dances can even help humans. Farmers sometimes use this knowledge to place crops in places where bees can find them easily, improving pollination (授粉). Bee keepers also monitor (监测) bee dances to check the health and productivity of their colonies. By understanding these dances, they can decide if bees are trying to find food, allowing for timely help such as moving hives to more resource - rich areas. Who knew such tiny creatures could teach us so much
36What does the bee’s dance mainly tell others
A. The size of the hive. B. The taste of the food.
C. The location of the food. D. The number of bees needed.
37.How did Karl von Frisch study bees
A. By watching their movements. B. By listening to their sounds.
C. By checking their honey production. D. By comparing different kinds of bees.
38.What can we know about the bee’s dance from paragraph 3
A. It is always correct. B. It depends on the food’s quality.
C. It troubles other bees. D. It only works in sunny weather.

When winter comes, cranes (鹤) fly from Northeast Siberia in Russia to Poyang Lake in Jiangxi province, China. Every year, thousands of cranes travel a long way to find a warm place to stay during the cold winter months. Poyang Lake is one of the most important wintering grounds for these birds. It provides them with food and a safe place to rest. 41 However, climate change has influenced the birds’ living conditions. Changes in weather patterns have made it harder for the cranes to find enough food. In some years, the Poyang Lake experiences floods, while in others, it experiences dry weather. 42
To help deal with the problem, the local government has planted a large area of lotus roots (莲藕) in Nanchang. 43 As a result, the birds’ population has increased from about 3,000 to more than 5,000 over the past 20 years.
Over the years, China has worked hard to protect migratory birds (候鸟). Recently, 1,140 places in the country have been taken as important breeding (繁殖) grounds, wintering grounds and migratory stops. 44 They play a key role in cleaning water, preventing floods, and keeping the balance of the environment. On these lands, there are few floods and dry weather.
45 The law sets rules to help manage wetlands. And it stops harmful activities, including pouring waste water. Thanks to these efforts, China has reported more birds wintering in the wetlands. To help the cranes, people have taken many steps.
A. Most of them are wetlands. B. These plants make the water cleaner. C. Both of these cause less food for cranes. D. About 95% of the birds spend winter there. E. Cranes travel long ways to find warm places. F. They provide food during the winter for the cranes. G. The Wetlands Protection Law was introduced in 2022.
