(24-25七年级下·吉林长春·期中)How many steps should you walk each day to stay healthy and live a long life Many people believe the magic number is 10,000 steps. However, a study shows that fewer steps can be just as good, especially if you are 60 or over.
The idea of walking 10,000 steps came from a Japanese company selling a device (设备) to count steps back in 1965. The company called it the “Manpo Metre”, which means the “10,000-step metre”. Walking 10,000 steps is a well-known daily walking goal, but scientists say it isn’t a rule.
Scientists looked at 15 studies with nearly 48,000 people. They find that the more the people walk, the longer they live. However, older and younger people need different numbers of steps. For people over 60, walking more than 6,000 to 8,000 steps a day doesn’t make the risk (风险) of early death go down any more. For people between 18 and 59, the risk stops going down after 8,000 to 10,000 steps.
The scientists also grouped people according to their step count. The lowest group walked about 3,500 steps every day, and the highest group took about 10,900 steps every day. The people in the group doing the most steps had a 40% to 53% lower risk of early death than those who walked the least.
The scientists said that knowing the best number of steps for different ages could help give better advice for staying healthy.

(24-25七年级下·吉林长春·期中)Singapore is a small country known for its rules, but these rules also mean that Singapore is a very clean and safe place. Here are some of Singapore’s most well-known rules.
Singapore tries hard to keep the country clean. Everyone must throw their litter in a bin, not on the ground. If someone litters, they might have to pay a fine (罚款) of up to $1,000!
Durians (榴莲) have a very strong smell, and the smell can stay for a long time even when the durian is gone. Because of this, people must not take durians on public transport like buses, subways or trains.
In 1992, Singapore made a law that people mustn’t buy, sell or chew gum (嚼口香糖). This is because chewing gum is messy when people throw it away.
If you visit Singapore, be careful when you cross the road. Look for a pedestrian crossing—a safe place to cross. If there is one near, you must use it. You can get a $50 fine if you cross the road in any other place.
Singapore’s rules make it a clean and safe place. When everyone, follows the rules, it makes the country a better place. Maybe Singapore can be a good example for other places around the world.

Our school has an Animal Club near the library. It’s a special place where students learn about animals like dogs, cats, and birds. The club has a big room with cages, a small garden, and many books about animals on the shelves. Different animals live in different cages, and we can see them during science classes.
Students need library cards to enter the club. We can watch the animals but can’t touch them without permission. Our teacher, Mr Wang, is very kind. He knows a lot about animals and helps us understand why they are important. For example, he told us how dogs help people as guide dogs for the blind.
I love reading about animals in the club. It’s relaxing to watch the birds fly in the garden. We also learn how to protect animals, like not leaving trash near their homes. Celebrating the First “ICH Spring Festival”
This year’s Spring Festival is very special because China celebrates its first “Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Spring Festival” (非物质文化遗产春节). ICH means traditions passed down from old times, such as paper-cutting, lion dances, and traditional food-making. These traditions help us remember our history and culture.
In the past, Spring Festival mainly featured family dinners and red envelopes. But this year, we tried more ICH activities. My family made paper lanterns, and our community had a fun shadow puppet show. My grandparents even taught young people to write Spring Festival couplets (对联)! It was interesting to mix old traditions with modern life.
I also learned that protecting (保护) ICH is not only about the past. For example, some artists use traditional patterns to make cute zodiac stickers (生肖贴纸) for phones! This shows that old culture can be new and fun.
This Spring Festival, while eating dumplings and watching reworks, let’s also remember the value of our traditions. Culture makes us who we are!

(24-25七年级下·吉林长春·开学考试)The tiger is the largest wild animal (野生动物) of the cat family. A big cat tiger weighs about 363 kilograms and is about three meters long.
Tigers wait until it is dark, and then they go out to find their food. When a tiger sees an animal, it moves very quietly, and then jumps on the animal to kill it. Sometimes it can take many days for a tiger to finish eating its kill. The tiger eats until it’s full, and then it covers (埋) the dead animal with leaves. Later, when the tiger is hungry again, it comes back to eat some more.
Tigers are different from others in the cat family: they like water, and they often jump into rivers to swim.
Some tigers live in very cold places like North Korea, Eastern Russia, and Northeast China. Other tigers live in warmer places— India and parts of Southeast Asia.
All tigers are in danger. People kill them to eat their meat, use their skins for clothes, and their bodies for medicine. What’s more, there is also less and less land for tigers to live on. But now people know that tigers are in danger and make plans (计划) to protect them.
