When I was little, I was really little. But my dream was big. 1 dreamed of being a basketball player. I tried out for the teams at school, but I was never given a chance.
As I got older, I did grow a little bigger, but not a lot bigger. On my 12th birthday, I decided to try a new sport: running. I told Grandpa. "I'm going to be an athlete."
"Dave." Grandpa began gently, "if you can't be big, you can do something big."
I ran 12 miles on my 12th birthday. On my 13th birthday, I did it again, but I added an extra mile. On my 14th birthday, I ran 14 miles. 15 on my 15th, 16 on my 16th, and you guessed it-17 miles on my 17th birthday.
All this running inspired another big dream. Someday, I'd run the Boston Marathon(马拉松赛). I told Grandpa about my decision.
"But, Dave, you haven't trained for the marathon. Are you sure you're ready "Grandpa asked. But he still promised to walk over and cheer me on.
I ran fast that day, But I fell at Mile 18 and was driven to the hospital. Later that night, I called Grandpa and told him I failed.
"No," he said calmly, "you didn't fail. You discovered something." "I did " I asked.
"Yes, you discovered that big dreams don't just come true. They take work. If you train and work hard, I promise to wait for you next year and cheer you on.”
I trained every day, running miles and miles. That day, I ran fast. “Keep going! You can do it!" His words filled my head as I forced my legs to make each painful step. As I crossed the finish line, I threw my arms in the air and cheered, "Grandpa, we did it!”

We all enjoy being part of a group--there's no better work than teamwork, right Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It's a much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier.
Personalities (个性) can make teamwork difficult. There's often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality cap make teamwork bine(结合) several challenging personality types, and it's even harder.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together-and lots of it.
A final reason teamwork is difficult is because there's often no training on how to work on a team. You can't just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren't just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.
Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn't work, I don't have an IT person to tum to. When I have a great idea, I don't have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don't get me wrong-I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that's useful information-because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.
23.Why did the writer choose to work from home on his own
A. To keep himself busier. B. To keep himself healthier.
C. To make his job easier. D. To make his team harder.
24. Which of the following makes teamwork difficult
A. Strong personality. B. Lots of teamwork time.
C. Challenging ideas. D. Clear team roles.
25.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. WE TEAM has hardly any advantages.
B.ME TEAM needs a lot of IT engineers.
C.ME TEAM has no challenges for the writer.
D.WE TEAM may be the writer's choice one day.
26.What is the purpose of the text
A. To show the advantages of teamwork. B. To tell the importance of teamwork.
C. To introduce the influence of teamwork. D. To explain the difficulties of teamwork.
D
In the near future, the doctors who treat our illness might be tiny (微小的) machines that swim through our bodies. Some movies have played with the idea of making machines the size of a cell (细胞).Today robot technology has brought the idea closer to the real life. In my laboratory, I'm just trying to build such intelligent, or smart, tiny robots.
Tiny living things, such as bacteria (细菌), have many intelligent actions. If we can make robots copy some of them, it's very exciting. The way bacteria travel across their environment is unbelievable. At first, they move around without purpose, but when they start sensing food, like an amino acid (氨基酸), they will move gradually in that direction. As an expert making robots, I think it is great to make tiny robots that can do the same thing.
For example, look at something like E. coli (大肠杆菌). lt can sense amino acids around it. It can change how it's moving. It can rebuild or repair itself. In fact, E. coli does all these so well that some researchers are using it as part of their tiny machines. They are making their tiny robots get free rides from E. coli. And E. coli does all the sensing for tiny robots and directs their movements.
We're already using smaller and smaller medical tools, like catheters (导管) that can travel deep into your brain to treat a blood clot (血块). Next, we will put tiny robots into the body that can travel into even smaller spaces and treat illness at an early time.
We may not actually need something as powerful as artificial intelligence (AI) in these cases. We can still build a very useful tiny robot with a low degree of intelligence. For example, if a tiny robot notices a blood clot, it can slowly move in that direction, and carry medicine directly to that part. It might only have the intelligence of bacteria but could still work.
27.What can we learn about the writer
A. The writer is a middle school teacher. B. The writer is a dentist from a hospital.
C. The writer is an expert making robots. D. The writer is an expert making medicine.
28.What are some researchers doing according to Paragraph 3
A. Using tiny robots to sense E. coli.
B. Letting E. coli work for their tiny robots.
C. Changing tiny robots into E. coli's drivers.
D. Telling tiny robots to direct E. coli's movements.
29. What does the writer think of the catheters today
A. They will be widely used by doctors in the future.
B. They are not able to get to tinier areas in the body.
C. They will be smarter than tiny robots in the future.
D. They can help doctors take care of patients on time.
30. What's the last paragraph mainly about
A. AI plays an important role in developing tiny robots.
B. Tiny robots can run fast and treat a blood clot easily.
C. Tiny robots with a low degree of intelligence are still useful.
D. We still need very powerful artificial intelligence to treat illness.

People know animals do have feelings, but they are not sure if these feelings are correctly understood. In recent years, scientists have done research about the feelings of cows, frogs and pandas. A new study adds chickens to the list. It says that humans can tell whether a chicken is happy or sad by listening to its calls.
The researchers put a bowl behind a door. Inside the bowl, sometimes, there was something chickens love to eat, such as rice or insects. Sometimes, there was nothing. When the chickens saw food behind the door, they seemed happy and produced fast and loud sounds, known as food calls. When there wasn't food, the chickens made low and long noises to express disappointment. The researchers recorded all these sounds and studied their waves.
Then the researchers chose 16 recordings of such chicken noises. Half were from the chickens seeing the food and half were from the chickens finding no food. The recordings were played to 194 volunteers. Sixty-nine percent of the volunteers correctly understood whether the chickens were feeling happy or not, and some of them even had no experience of taking care of chickens
The result shows that humans have the natural ability to understand the feelings of chickens. Hopefully, this finding can bring about new technology to help with chicken-raising,a big industry in many countries. Some scientists are already working on a smart computer program that can identify chickens’feelings. This is good news for farmers who want to make the birds happier and healthier.
51.What new animal was studied for their feelings in the recent research
52.How did chickens express their disappointment in the experiment
53. Were all the volunteers experienced in taking care of chickens
54.What ability does the study suggest humans naturally have regarding chickens
55. Why is this research considered good news for farmers
