Marco Polo and His Book
One of the most famous Europeans to travel the Silk Road was Marco Polo. In the book The Travels of Marco Polo, he wrote about his travels along the Silk Road in Asia, especially in China.
Marco Polo’s father and uncle were successful Silk Road merchants(商人). They took Marco on their journey to the East in 1271 when he was a teenager. The Polos took a land route across Asia and stayed in China for about 17 years during the Yuan Dynasty.

Marco Polo and His Book
The Polos were not the first Westerners to travel to China, but Marco Polo was the first to write a well-known book about it. Although some historians have questioned(质疑) what he said in it, his book gave many people in the West their first look at the civilizations of the East and inspired(激励；鼓舞) many travelers after him. In this sense, Marco Polo and his book have truly brought the West and the East closer together.
