Recently, a United Nations (UN) climate group published a new report on climate change. The report
explains that the climate crisis (危机) has become even more serious.
Since people first began burning coal to run factories, the world’s temperature has gone up by 1.1℃. The
world is getting hotter, mainly because humans are burning coal, oil and natural gas to make energy. They give off
pollution called “greenhouse gases”. The effects of climate change can already be seen: higher temperatures,
record dry periods, wildfires and more strong hurricanes (飓风).
In the 2015 Paris Agreement, the countries of the world agreed to cut pollution in an effort to limit (限制)
global warming to 1.5℃. If the planet heats up by more than 1.5℃, life on Earth will be far more difficult.
But the report makes it clear that many countries have not been keeping their promises to cut pollution. The
Earth is now on the way to reach 1.5℃by the early 2030s. So the world needs to cut greenhouse gas emissions
(排放) almost in half by 2030. If not, global temperatures will continue to rise, and the future will become much
more dangerous.
Governments know what must be done to avoid a climate crisis. There are already many technologies
which are needed for environment-friendly power, such as wind, sun and water power, and they are getting
cheaper.
Luckily, there is still time to avoid the worst effects of the climate crisis. Let’s act strongly right away.
19.The climate crisis is mainly caused by ______.
A.water pollution B.air pollution C.land pollution D.noise pollution
20.How does the writer prove the effects of climate change
A.By listing facts. B.By raising questions.
C.By telling stories. D.By explaining differences.
21.What can we know from the text
A.No countries have promised to cut pollution.
B.Humans have no time to stop the climate crisis.
C.Governments must take strong climate action by 2030.
D.The 2015 Paris Agreement makes our life difficult.
22.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.The Goal to Cut Pollution by 2030, B.A UN Report about the Climate Crisis.
C.Several Ways to Avoid a Climate Crisis. D.The Effects of Climate around the World.

Ye Jiaying is a well-known classical Chinese literature scholar (古典文学学者). Her love for classical
Chinese poems started when she was just a little kid and has continued throughout her whole life.
She was born into a family that had a traditional cultural background. So, from a very young age, she got to
know a lot of classical literature. Her parents really loved literature and this had a huge impact on her. When she
was a young girl, she could remember and recite a large number of ancient poems quite easily.
However, Ye’s path in the field of classical poems wasn’t always smooth. There were many difficulties like
the war and tough personal times. But she still stuck to her research and teaching of classical poems all the time.
She taught in quite a few universities, both in China and in other countries. In this way, she spread the beauty of
classical Chinese poems to more people.
Her special ways of understanding and translating ancient poems have made a big difference. She has her
own unique way to dig into the deep meaning and artistic conception (构思) of the poems. For example, when she
talked about the works of famous poets such as Li Bai and Du Fu, she could show the emotions and the social
situation behind the poems vividly. It made the ancient literature seem alive for modern people. She is really a
remarkable person in the world of classical literature.
Even in her later years, Ye Jiaying remained devoted. She actively took part in various cultural exchange
activities, inspiring a new generation of scholars and lovers to explore the deep charm of classical Chinese
literature and made sure of its lasting energy.
23.What most probably made Ye Jiaying love classical Chinese poems

①Imagine watching a movie in a foreign language or attending a lecture where the speaker talks fast, the
subtitles (字幕) appear directly on your glasses. Isn’t that amazing
②Recently, an ordinary yet “magical” pair of glasses—the AR Smart Glasses—has hit the market, which
goes far beyond regular translation tools by offering hands-free, screen-free, real-time interactive translation.
③The AR Smart Glasses are lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look just like regular glasses, but
the “magic” hidden within them can’t be ignored (忽视).
④The coolest feature of the AR Smart Glasses is their special translator. When people talk with someone,
they can just point the glasses’ camera at the person they’re talking to, and the translation appears on the screen.
When people visit a new city wearing AR Smart Glasses, they can simply look at any text, and a translation
quickly appears in their view. If they get lost and need directions, the glasses can connect with GPS apps and
show them translated directions right in front of their eyes. Even for language learners, it would be wonderful to
practice a new language by seeing the words they hear being translated simultaneously. Learning a language can
become quicker, easier, and more certain.
⑤Since translation tools like the AR Smart Glasses help people understand words easily, some people start
to question whether it’s still necessary to learn English, or, any other foreign languages. In fact, knowing a new
language is more than just that. When you speak a language fluently, you understand the way people talk, the
jokes they make, and the special meanings behind their words. This helps you connect with people better and
make real friends. Also, being able to speak more than one language makes you smarter. It helps you think in new
ways and solve problems more easily. In a word, learning a language isn’t just about understanding words. More
importantly, it’s about real connections with native speakers and a different point of view to see the world.
⑥So, even though AR Smart Glasses and other cool tools can help with translations, the real joy and
benefits of knowing a language come from speaking it fluently and understanding its culture.
27.What does the underlined word “simultaneously” mean
A.快速地 B.同步地 C.准确地 D.间断地
28.What can’t the AR Smart Glasses do according to the passage
A.Translate when people are talking.
B.Translate the text people see.
C.Provide translated directions when people get lost.
D.Teach people to speak a foreign language fluently.
29.What’s the structure of the passage
A.①/②/③④/⑤⑥B.①②/③④/⑤⑥ C.①②③/④/⑤/⑥ D.①/②③④/⑤/⑥
30.What is the main idea of the passage
A.To introduce the features and functions of AR Smart Glasses.
B.To discuss whether it’s necessary to learn foreign languages in the age of translation tools.
C.To encourage people to use AR Smart Glasses.
D.To show the importance of language-learning apps.

Paul McCartney is a famous rock star and song writer. He was born in England in 1942. He wrote most of
the music for the band Beatles. Let It Be is one of his most popular songs and it’s also the most famous song in
history. Many of us may remember some of its lines, but few of us understand their true meanings. In fact, he
wrote this song to remember his mother.
Paul McCartney used to have problems with math in his primary school days. Every time he looked
worried, his mother, Mary, always came to him and said, “Let it be.” Mary wanted him not to worry about his
trouble. She wanted him to face the music and feel more comfortable about solving his problems.
When he was 14 years old, his mom died. One night, he felt lonely and unhappy, and he had a dream. In
this dream, his mother came to him and said, “It will be all right. Just let it be.” These wise words brought him
much peace. Because of his mother, he wrote one of the best hits of all time.

A.water pollution B.air pollution C.land pollution D.noise pollution
20.How does the writer prove the effects of climate change

A.No countries have promised to cut pollution.
B.Humans have no time to stop the climate crisis.
C.Governments must take strong climate action by 2030.

22.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
