Our art teacher George was leaving soon for his country. I was preparing a special gift for him. It was a hand-drawn picture book about our school. I worked a long time, trying to make each picture as perfect as possible.
One day, I was drawing while my little sister Becky was watching with curiosity (好奇). Just then, my classmate Jeff dropped by.
“Hi! Peter, want to play basketball in the yard ” he asked.
“I’d like to, but it’s too cold outside” I replied.
“Exactly!” Jeff said. “It’s the perfect weather for not getting too hot.”
That’s a cool thing about Jeff. He always looks on the bright side of almost everything.
“Let’s go!” We went out, leaving the drawings on the table.
We laughed as we returned. When I opened the door, my heart nearly stopped. Right there, Becky was coloring my pictures.
“Stop, Becky!” I rushed to her, but it was too late. Almost every page was colored.
“What did you do ” I shouted angrily.

“I’m not sure, but we can have a try,” He encouraged.
First, we cut the drawings into shapes, such as our brown teaching buildings and green playground. Then, we put all these pieces together and made a jigsaw. Finally, we even added more paints. Days later, a beautiful “school” appeared in front of us.

Climate conditions have a significant impact on people’s daily lives. Firstly, in hot weather, individuals often feel uncomfortable and may experience heat exhaustion. As a result, many choose to stay in cool places and avoid vigorous physical activities, leading to a decrease in overall activity levels. Additionally, hot weather can influence eating habits, with people preferring light food.
On the other hand, cold weather can cause transportation issues. Snow and ice can affect roads and public transport, leading to delays. During such times, many people choose to stay indoors. What’s more, cold climates prompt individuals to wear heavier clothing, which can affect daily dressing choices.
Rainy days often lead people to avoid outdoor activities such as picnics, sports and gardening. Instead, individuals tend to engage in indoor activities to avoid getting wet. In extreme weather conditions, like hurricanes or heavy snowstorms, schools often cancel classes, particularly for children and the elderly, where safety becomes a primary concern.

Teens seek structure in their lives, which means they want their lives to be well-organized. To build this structure, they need love and trust from their parents. Teens want to know that their parents will always support them, even as they mature, make mistakes, or cause frustration. They appreciate when parents maintain control while still allowing them some independence.
To help your teens build structure and stay connected, spend quality time together. Teens might seem more focused on friends, but they still value time with their parents—just not through activities like watching TV. One-on-one time is important because it allows teens to talk openly about their interests and concerns. Listen carefully and show interest but do not interrupt (打断).
Helping teens become adults involves sharing your world with them. Trust them, avoid unnecessary worry, and don’t expect the worst. Respect their choices, including their friends, and remember that treating them with respect is crucial.
Support your teens by understanding that what might seem small to you can be significant (意义重大的) to them. Understand their feelings and let them know you care about them. As they grow, they may encounter some problems in a new environment, and your support is key to helping them face these challenges.

Many people find ghosts and death scary, but some countries have festivals to celebrate these things.
In China, the Zhongyuan Festival, or the Ghost Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar. On this day, families light lanterns to guide the spirits of the dead back home. However, people often avoid going out at night during the festival, fearing that ghosts might harm them.
Both the Zhongyuan Festival and the Qingming Festival honour the dead, but they are different. During the Zhongyuan Festival, all spirits are remembered, while the Qingming Festival is only for honouring one’s own ancestors. People believe spirits return home during the Ghost Festival, but not during the Qingming Festival.
In Chinese culture, death is seen as a serious thing. However, in other cultures, death is sometimes viewed differently.
In the United States, Halloween is a time to remember the dead, but it’s also a fun celebration with costumes and trick-or-treating. In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a time to connect with the dead through dolls and stories, and there are even parties.

When I was a small boy, my father made me eat it at lunch. “The rule is: eat everything on your plate,” he said. I ate it and then I was sick. When I’m a father, my rule will be: “If you don’t like it, you can leave it.” ② “Want to play in the school football team ” the sign said, “Come along at four o’clock!” So I went. “But you’re a girl!” a boy said. “Girls can’t play in the school team!” “There’s no such rule,” I said. And I played. Now there’s a new rule—everyone can play in the school team. ③ “They’re my rules,” Kevin said. “If you don’t like them or think they are not fair(公平的), find someone else to play with.” When he went to bed later that evening, Kevin felt sad.
